Unfortunately he clearly just doesn’t want to leave. I haven’t got a clue who we have in mind as an alternative but my faith in the club to find one couldn’t be lower.

Bro literally… if you haven’t kept up with the latest ins and outs of this transfer then don’t bother commenting. Your statement is not true.

I'm sure you do know why it's important that we don't get strongarmed into paying their debt. I doubt anyone would agree to such in real life. The "just pay the fn money" attitude that gets us fleeced constantly gets abuse on here then the next transfer comes by and everyone is back to saying just pay the fn money. Paying their debt would be a new low even for us. I love ETH but I won't be one of them fanboys saying the club didn't back him by not letting other clubs fleece us.
I would never say that the club didn't back him either. I think there is a reasonable budget line which we will not cross and that may end up meaning we don't sign Frenkie.

That would suck for us and Ten Hag but life is sometimes like that.

Haaland went to Dortmund because we didn't woo him enough. I am far more pissed about that than this one.

His agent has made it pretty clear that he's not accepting any pay cut.
No he hasn't made it pretty clear. They have kept very silent The only thing made pretty clear is the constant quotes from Barca officials that he either adjusts or should leave.

Although I think this deal is dead, what Laporte says in public means absolutely nothing.
Deal is far from dead. This is purely putting pressure on de Jong to either take the cut or get out of the club.
Theres no inbetween for him in Laportas eyes. The wheels are in motion to ensure he doesn't stay on his current deal it appears (sub appearances at CB, no place in MF etc). They're piling the pressure on him and will make him feel even more isolated i bet

Which just confirms again that Hunter was talking out of his arse.

Barca absolutely do not want to give him the full settlement package to leave, they want him to bend over backwards, by either giving up tens of millions in wages (whilst being made a sub CB), or give up a massive amount in settlement.

Bunch of cnuts.

Stay firm FDJ, take em to the fecking cleaners. Reckon he can get 20mil out of them.

You may be right but then it is what it is, right? Why get agitated about something like that?

I'd love to drive the latest and coolest EV but I can't afford it and that's that.
Yeah, it’s one way to look at it.

I think people recognise a crook when they see one. You can shrug your shoulders if you want but some people don’t like to see this kind of behaviour.

Tbf they don’t owe him shite

This could go to the last day.

He hasn't signed it, after what like 12 weeks of Laporta begging and attempting to emotionally blackmail and mentally screw with him and his career.

That's pretty clear.

Its purely for the Barca fans' consumption. All political.
Absolutely. It wouldn't look good on him if he's out selling players that are considered to be potentially world class.
He needs to appear to have the clubs best interests at heart, when in reality all he's thinking about is himself and his future prospects

So basically, he's just playing the line that he has been for the whole time...

"We want him to stay, but to stay he must take a pay cut" not like we didn't know that. He just needs to add in "he also needs to accept that he's a backup centre back now and his time in midfield is dwindling to nothing"

He's piling the pressure on de Jong to take the cut or get out of the club. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah Laporta is clearly making it look they want De Jong to stay and tried to make it work, but ultimately De Jong is greedy and cares more about money than Barcelona. So many idiots lap it up as well.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and probably a lot more clubs than we know, are crooks indeed. But that's business, politics and the most popular sport, all mixed in one.

I tend to be fascinated by events like these, because this is business acumen and innovation, in accounting, in PR, in negotiations, in marketing. It's quite impressive.

To compare, think of BP after the last big oil leak. We know they're crooks. They know we know. And now they need to spin stories to have us forgive and/or forget.

Barcelona are doing this balancing act for many years. The current management is just the latest in a series of populist presidents being elected. And that's quite normal and to be expected, to be fair.

You get elected by promising stupid stuff. Then while in power, you do whatever you can to make your period in power look as strong as it can, whatever the long term consequences may be. It will likely be someone else's problem anyway.

I can understand why he staying, if my work owed me that much i wouldn't budge.. id be taking them for every penny i could.

But on united's side, god its depressing for us fans.. Plus the longer we wait about the more likely we will be stuck with the same CMF as last year, which terrifies me,

And IF the rumours about him not wanting to come anyway, and would sign for the likes of Chelsea as soon as he gets what hes owed.. Utd will be straight back to being banter club all over again, after sitting on his doorstep all summer, only to lose out to a rival. Im praying it doesn't come to that.

i personally would rather us walk away and put our efforts elsewhere. we desperately need a new MF and are wasting a phenomenal amount of time and effort on someone who might not well want to join anyway.

How many times has Laporta rolled out this message now?
Why don't we just go public and say, "OK we hear you loud and clear, sorry to have troubled you, we'll take our £80M deal off the table now, and wish you good luck with FFP and all that jazz".

He hasn't signed it, yet there he is a the club that supposedly emotionally blackmails him, and wanting to stay.

If someone tries to blackmail you while you hold all the cards, you definitely wouldn't take so much nonsense. He and his agent could have very clearly told Barcelona that he would not accept a pay cut and will stay, compromising their new signings and resolving this whole situation by now. I mean if he is intent on moving he would very much like to sort his future out early and try to prepare for the new season. Since he hasn't done that, either FDJ and his agent are very stupid and don't much care about next season preparation or he simply wants to stay. IMO they are just trying to get the best deal they can from Barca.

Haaland went to Dortmund because we refused him a release clause so we wouldn't be used as a stepping stone on his path to Real Madrid.

Barcelona's current financial status and its implications in FDJ's staying at the club seems more confusing than time travel. There are so many contradictory views, but hardly anyone seems to have a proper grip of the actual situation.

Well, that'll be because Laporta doesn't want to come across as actively wanting to get rid of what some consider to be his best players.
He has to appear to be keeping the best talent at the club so it doesn't affect his reelection chances, at least thats my thinking behind it. As i've said lots of times too, whats said in the media and to journos, isn't going to be whats said behind the scenes. We have no idea what dialogue is going on between de Jong/United/ten Hag/Barca and the sorts.

I'm convinced that we'll start our midfield with Fred-McT-Bruno, at least for the first few games.

It's not an exciting thought. Actually, the more I think about it, the start of the season is coming far too early for us. I would've liked more players with us than what we have right now. It doesn't really feel like the revolution I guess we were all hoping for and expecting.

Overall, feeling annoyed by the whole thing now. Barca can go feck themselves and I hope that they really, really suffer. They're making a mockery of the system, which in turn props them up. You can understand why so many are repulsed by modern day football.

Even better, why doesn't FDJ or his agent come out publicly and tell them, no we won't take a pay cut?

Sorry but no Barcelona fans consider him their best player or best talent at the club. In fact most Barca fans agree with the take a pay cut or get out sentiment.

"We want him to stay, we love him, he's great... Unfortunately he's a greedy cnut who is unwilling to be a back up center back... Anyway here's another shiny new toy"

I feel we got involved too early in this mess. There are clearly issues between Barcelona and de Jong that need to be sorted before a move should even be discussed. We should have waited on the sidelines and let Frenkie and his agent know that we would be ready to bid if they were able to sort out their exit terms. And I think with the briefs from our side stopping in the last two to three weeks, this is what we now seem to be doing. If we had done this from the very beginning, the whole saga would have played out quite differently in the media. We would have been the club that rescued him from Barcelona, rather than the club that he is being pushed to. Aah well, Murtough and Arnold will only learn from this, there are good players to be had from Madrid and Barcelona but need to be careful not to get involved in their politics.

I think there are any number of people who understand their situation, they're just drowned out by Barcelona getting their press machine to throw sh*t at the wall.

In future, we need to be tracking/scouting/identifying/signing these players much earlier on before they are signed by a club like Barcelona. That way, we haven't got to deal with these knobs and we get these players at their absolute peaks.

Collectible mini figures?

Have you seen the new series 23? I like them all to be honest.
