Be funny if Barca end up in the Europa league with us, could we try for de Jong in January then? Or will he wait to see if we qualify for the CL next season. He’s guaranteed to qualify with Barca. I like the fact that new signings can play for the new club in Europe even if they’ve already been in it if you sign someone in January.
That interview makes him look terrible. He literally knows the club doesn’t want him there, he won’t play as much yet is somehow proud in the fact he was steadfast in staying.

So he knew he was staying in may, so why did we chase him all summer and put all our business on hold? Either he didn’t tell us that completely or we’re just stupid at this point because if that was really the case we could of had all our business done by pre season pretty much.

The best outcome for him would be Xavi getting sacked and a new manager coming in who rates him.
Yeah as long as he’s not a dressing room poison, trains hard, acts professional and tries to win his place back - not really sure how that constitutes the worst character to have on a team.
It’s his dream club, after all. Gutted we missed out on signing him. Think he’d fit in perfectly along with Casemiro and Eriksen.
But he can’t force his way back in. The club, and the manager, have made it clear he isn’t first choice and he needs to leave for the health of the club. Being willing to stay under those circumstances doesn’t reflect well on his character at all. Especially when we all know it’s because of the money anyway. He simply isn’t moving on because of his wages. The club literally can’t afford to have him be comfortable as a starter because they want him to go, it doesn’t matter how well he plays it 100 percent will not happen and he knows that
I think fans and executive prefer Gavi and Pedro, so that would still be in question.
I was reading some Baca fan posts and apparently that’s not the case. Gavi seemingly gasses after 50 minutes and doesn’t add that much creativity to his role. There’s calls for FDJ to be a start again
But I can understand him wanting to have a go. He's no affinity to United or Chelsea,presumably really wants to stay at Barcelona. So why not give it a go for a season rather than immediately giving in.
Players have not been wanted and forced their way back in before. It happens from time to time.
You might think he's just delaying the inevitable but there's nothing detrimental abour his character because he at least wants a shot at making it work.

As someone who spent far too much time in the thread in the summer, I’m baffled at people still wanting to put any time or energy into this really.
I had a similar thought. That's summer muppetry, we spent big on a veteran player like Casemiro, so I would like us to target a younger and cheaper player than De Jong.

Interesting. Pedri is incredible but I really don’t see it with Gavi. He’s young but most of what he does is basically just “getting stuck in”.
Because he played us. He wanted a plan B in case something out of his control happens. We were just stupid enough to believe him.
Really like De Jong as a player but if we had signed him we wouldn't have got Casemiro as well and he will prove by the end of the season to be the more important player. Signing Eriksen on a free was a masterstroke for once so happy enough we have a least one player in who is what you would class as a technical midfielder.

He's 18 and really good. Has a bit of everything, but of course, he's 18 and he's not a historic talent like Pedri, so he's inconsistent

FDJ will never be a lone DM and a Busquets replacement. He'd have to be in a 2 man pivot.

I don't disagree with you. The problem is that Pedri is a guaranteed starter and Busquets will have to be replaced next summer (at the latest) when his contract runs out. That leaves just 1 midfield spot. Gavi is far from the finished product (just turned 18) but Xavi seems to prefer him.
That is besides the point. I am referring to his fixed salary which apparently is the highest at the club currently. Most of those insane and moronic Bartomeu contracts are gone from the club's wage bill with only FDJ remaining and the old disgraced guard (Piqué, Busquets and Alba) that are bound to leave when this season ends.
