Frenkie De Jong | Performances

And I quoted another posted, saying that Frenkie may be following Dembele's footsteps by wanting to stay and not wake a wage cut. But the fact is that Dembele took a wage cut to stay.

Once again, no he didn’t.

He was out of contract so it was fecking impossible to take a pay-cut man. Frenkie has a long contract and would have to chose to take less money, ergo, a pay-cut, a choice Dembele didn’t have.

Stop playing silly beggars here. Choosing to take a pay cut requires having a choice to keep the current pay.

Pedri Gavi > De Jong

Shocked De Jong himself didn’t realise that earlier.

They told him in no uncertain terms how it would be if he rejected a move and didn't take a paycut, he did both those things and they're just keeping their word...

Things aren't happening. FDJ wants his money the money. He'll drain Barca until he has it then move.

Is there any world where Barca would loan him to United in January with an obligation to buy in the summer for the agreed £75m. United pay his wages in the loan period and then obviously take over his wages when he signs. Technically Barca are not in breach of contract as they have paid his wages up to January when United take over paying them. He is not out of pocket as his wages are paid for the year and United probably have 100-150m set aside to buy players next summer when Ronaldo and De Gea drop off the wage bill.

Don't see his missus letting him move from Barcelona to Manchester in the rainy season.

Hasn't he got something like €600k for 3-4 years left? I cannot see anyone paying a fee and covering that.

Didn't realise the wages were that mad, that's insane, Ronaldo and De Geas wages combined barely covers that. Little wonder Barca are fecked financially.
I thought in the summer he had agreed a wages deal with United and just wanted the 17m in deferred wages he was owed. By next summer that should be down to 12-13m which could possibly be worked in as a signing on fee, particularly if Barca lower the agreed 75m transfer price as he has 1 year less left on his contract.

His basic is €88.6m as a total for the next four years. However, that excludes his image rights, apprance bonuses and success bonuses. Once all that is combined it is well over €100m he is owed for the next four years. Any team taking him on that contract would be mad. Only way I see him going is if Barca give him away or for a very low fee.

The circus in the summer was all to do with his paycheck.

I don't think Gavi is better than De Jong at the moment, but Xavi obviously favors young, talented, SPANISH footballers, in a way I'm glad he sits on the bench and I hope it stays that way for the whole season.
Maybe not at the moment, but they will be future Spanish and Barca midfield pair for sure. It just like young Iniesta may not be as good as Deco when Deco was at his peak at Barca, but he will be far better in future.

I don't understand why De Jong would feel angry, Its not like he was given false promises.

He was told, you are not first choice, they wanted him gone, it was his decision to chose to be on the bench.

Its like telling a girl you like her and she says, sorry I am with someone and you wait and become angry that she is with someone else.

His motivation is clearly money and not football.

This boat has sailed for us. Unfortunate. But now next immediate investment should be in striker.

Why would it have sailed? Ten Hag will prioritize him next season again, as our midfield lacks that natural deep playmaker who is press resistant and can carry the ball. Nobody fits what we need more perfectly in midfield than Frenkie. Plus he's at a perfect age still.

Considering the financial hit to Barca if they're out of the CL this year, how will they get rid of guy owed almost 80m over the next 4 years?
If De Jong is a bit-part player for the course of his contract, how does this impact his career? He'll be 80m richer and 27 years old but what after that? I suspect he'll have to go to an Ajax/Benfica/Monaco-level team at best, on significantly reduced wages.
Maybe if he left right now, he could have earned an average of 12m annually over the course of 10 years (120m) while being an important player for his club and country - regularly playing the biggest games on TV. Something to show his kids/grandkids.
I understand the 'time-value' of money but doesn't De Jong want to make the most of his abilities?

Nah, he'll be fine. At 27 he still has loads of time left and if he doesn't get played everyone will know it is because of how much of a dumpster fire Barca are rather than his ability. In fact, him holding out probably means even more $$$ as he then gets to sign on a free somewhere.

So, yeah, FDJ is going to rinse Barca for all they're worth.

He's simply not that good. That's why he's a sub and Barcelona want to get rid of him. His level is an above average player for an elite European side, not a world beater you spunk your entire budget for. Bullet dodged.

I think he'll get next season in the Busquets role when the dinosaur himself finally leaves which is why he stayed and backs himself. Personally don't think he'll work without playing in a double pivot but we shall see if he can adapt to that role.

He's ahead of Gavi currently imo but Pedri is superior even at his young age.

he's got to be kicking himself a bit though with how this season is playing out....he's not playing a lot which will impact his Dutch status plus they are about to end up in the Europa league which was one of the complaints about joining United

"I knew that I would play less minutes at the start of the season."

guy comes off as completely spineless. fecking hell

Lads, walk away. He’s that girl that you fancy but never wanted you regardless of your Porsche & audemars piguet. Leave him be

Did you see that 45 mins against Sociedad when Eriksen didn't play? And he isn't even really a midfielder. There is no more pressing concern then getting a top quality midfielder in this club.

I am torn. Say we can only sign FDJ or Osimhen...who do we go for? I am leaning towards the striker.

Yeah talk about karma

Yeah much as we need that classy player on the ball to take pressure off Eriksen I am still saying we need Osimhen more

If we do go for him again next season, will he make sense alongside Casemiro or will he be vying for his role?

Sign him up this summer. 50 million. Will completely transform the team.

I think they can play together and would mean Eriksen not being relied upon to provide those quality passes in midfield

I'd be really disappointed if we go in for this guy again. He never wanted to come anyway and he'd rather stay in Barca and bleed them dry even though they want him out and informed him he'd have fewer minutes.

WTF were we doing chasing him all summer?! Thankfully we signed Casemiro and Eriksen - I shudder to think of another season of McFred - and it also shows that there were plenty of other midfielders who would have improved us, and it still remains the case.

You can look at it another way, he's determined to fight for his place and prove to the club, manager and himself he can make it and is the better option for them which I thought he'd do, any move was a last resort and more on the club trying to manage finances. He believes he can follow on from the previous players in midfield and so did the club that invested a lot at the time when PSG was in for him.

In an Ajax interview he was dismissive of the EPL so I doubt he's keen still.

His best bet is a new manager who actually rates him. Xavi clearly thinks they have 3 players better than him.

Yeah, if he wants to ride Barcas bench then good for him, shame as he would have been our number 1 midfielder but best we all move on.
