Despite him supposedly being really bad, he won the ball more than any player, other than Dalot, (5 tackles and 2 interceptions) and he created the most important goal of the match.

He should have ended with a second assist, also.

I love the guy but he was poor on the ball in the first half. Should have had 2 assists yeah and he was really good in the second half. He’s a machine. Our joint most creative player currently. Definitely our hardest worker. You see people then jumping on him for their goal. Overly harsh. The lad has just totally changed the game for us

Ole sacked, at least that’s the last time we have seen McFred. Carrick comes in, that’s the last we have seen McFred. RR, that’s the last we have seen McFred.….they are going no where.

so many hospital passes, i swear he passes with his eyes closed most of the time, especially that fluke for Elanga.
needs replacing.

Thought he was good tonight, got about and made good passes. Though he got ahead of Ronaldo a bit too often, needs leave space for the attackers and not get in their way.

Every forum needs a scapegoat, Fred’s ours. Has him limitations but equally used in the right way, can really make a difference. He is never a 6 anymore than Scott is but needs to play there until we get one. Very useful squad player for me or starter in the big games when you need to ensure their midfield can’t settle on the ball….

On the Good Fred Bad Fred scale tonight... Still some inevitable bad, but mostly good?
Your guess as good as mine
Sublime pass to Elenga
But also at fault for the goal and a number of loose passes that let them counter
Performance went from a 3 to 10 throughout the match

No one else

He opened the tight can with that pass. Once the game is 1-0, all the other soft attackers we have start to shine and get plaudits because they can only do things vs a open team, and shy away vs a low block

Fault for the goal is ridiculous

Thats it. people keep repeating this stupid phrase over and over we can’t control the midfield and that’s why the strikers have been poor. Couldn’t be further from the truth. The strikers aren’t setting each other up or working hard enough for each other. It’s not a coincidence that Elanga has been a total breath of fresh air or Cavani last season. What’s missing from our team isn't just about controlling the game and knocking short safe passes around. It’s about intensity and pressing harder getting forward and back and destroying the other teams tempo. Fred and Scot are very good at that. They seem to be getting better at one going one sitting and their creativity is on the up

The first 10 minutes I thought we were in for one of his shockers but he settled down and played well. He gets everywhere, we just need somebody capable of sweeping up from the pressure he creates.

Like said, for all their failings, every single manager picks them. People say well, they have no choice but common sense says there is no manager that wants to keep his job is going to play players who are going to cost them games. If Fred was as bad as people make out, he‘d be on the bench like others. Fred and Scott have their limitations but our wins in PL or CL in recent times, they have been the midfield.

Ran around a lot and got an assist. Some good moments but far too inconsistent.

I think he is better as an 8 further up the pitch...the further away from our goal he is the less his inevitable mistakes will harm us. Great squad option.

He has all the attributes to be a very good midfielder
He just need to start putting some tackles in

His pass to Elanga was superb, which is something we'll need to see more of with him playing as an 8.

Our top performer according to whoscored.com, with McTominay second.

I think he had a very bad first half. I was positive that he was going to be subbed at HT. Thankfully, he wasn't, and played much better in the second. He was actually given our MoTM on Whoscored. I'm not really sure why, but his assist for the goal was very, very good. We desperately needed that goal and he played a wonderful pass. Elanga also did very well making the most of it.

When Fred is good, he is very good for the team. When he's bad, he's playing awful passes that puts the team under pressure. There is usually more good than bad, but the bad can't be ignored. Still better than most of the fans say. Further up the pitch, he is definitely better.

He's not having his best boots on the last three games but before that, when he was quite strangely benched for few games he was MOTM in at least 3/5 games so he's hardly the worst player, quite the opposite he' never downing tools always covering for his players and alweays giving his all even when his passing is not there, yet 2 assists in 2 games is not bad either and he could have had another with Bruno and his miserable attempt..

Just hope we will ever see a proper partner for him in midfield a proper no6 helping him to mop around and push him a bit further up the pitch where he can win the ball in dangerous situations. McTominay, Matic is just a parody for defending and Pogba obviously another inbalanced player playing form deep. I hope the recruitment go well and we try Mejbri there too who's press resistant, has a great vision and a pass, can take the ball forward and is not shy to win the ball back.

to be fair, the whole tema needed a cold shower. Brentford pressed very hard and great as a unit and we didn't know what to do, Fred tried to be everywhere but didn't get any supprort from always hiding McTominay. It's extremely difficult ot play with a midfielder with such limited defensive ability or Matic who plays in retireement tempo. There are no easy games and even the bottom table teams can press very well and we seem to set up still with not good enough players to match this part of the game. Only when we string too passes together our strikers stretch the play don't los the ball with their first touch we have a bit of a breather and can get more comfortable but some of these errors we see not only by Fred are system errors by players who can't function in that system..They either need to be teached not to make those mistakes or simply replaced. Fred for one make mistakes but often lacks any support , has noone to pass to or noone to defend with, that force errors from him.

Nice assist and should gave had a 2nd if not for Bruno's terrible chip attempt, the rest was the usual Fred mixed bag, ran around a lot, chased everything and everybody, positioning and passing erratic.

Ole sacked, at least that’s the last time we have seen McFred. Carrick comes in, that’s the last we have seen McFred. RR, that’s the last we have seen McFred.….they are going no where.

Bit like our team.

It’s crowed up top for United, but I feel his terrier like energy is great for starting the press.

That! or I’m just calmer watching him play further away from the defence.

Good assist but shit player.

Such a stupid post with no context whatsoever.

Guy's probably been our only good outfield player for the last three months and gets lazy shit like this thrown at him.

McFred isn't a long-term midfield by any means but they've given more effort and consistency than we've seen anywhere else in the pitch.

For as much hate as they get, I think they've been two of the best players under Rangnick.

What context do you need. Our midfield is probably the weakest part of our team and he's a mainstay in that midfield.

Once you list his weaknesses it becomes pretty clear he's not very good. That's not to say he doesn't bring good qualities, he obviously does but the flaws in his game are just too glaring for me to ignore at the expense of good pressing and tenacity.

I've said it a million times he's better further up the pitch, unfortunately our squad is lacking so he gets stuck in a position that doesn't suit him. Once we sign a real DM he should be free to pay further up.

That overhead kick though. I'm not sure he's Brazilian.

Fred? We have squad full of scapegoats, not a single player is spared. Only difference is different posters in different thread.

Anyways on the game, it was mixed game. He was very good at times, also poor at times. One thing you always get is, he never stops trying and always shows up for the ball. IMO we are better team with Fred in the team.

Was all over the place erratic. Gave the ball away with poor touches and passes so many times leading to counters, at fault for the goal through lack of concentration and application. Had some good moments including the pass for the first goal but other than that it was from one end of the scale to the other constantly. Runs a lot so people like.

Exactly. Few underestimate importance of working hard and playing as a team. Just comes up with lazy "he runs a lot lolzy" "pashun" nonsense.

It was a sublime pass but apart from that didn't do much. I don't blame him for the goal but he gets by passed too easily and get brushed off easily too.
It's good that McTominay had a great game.
