He was also a major part of our first goal. Won the from their counter attempt and passed it wide to Bruno

Maybe it's me but that was by far the hardest game of the season and despite the negativity towards him and Scott, somehow we win with a good performance. I thought first half we moved the ball well and considering Scott disappeared the second half and Pogs wasn't great, he was left holding the bloody thing together.....

It's doesn't matter what he does, people will focus on everything negative. What I'm 100% sure of especially after today, people get use to him playing, McFred are going nowhere

His passing is just not good enough for top player league side. He can be a squad player but he should never be a starter

I don't think he's good enough, but I feel he's becoming the new target to blame every single bad thing about United. Several players before were in the same spot. Lindelof was the target last 2 seasons whenever we lose and now that he's on the bench, it seems people have shifted to Fred. Wonder who the next target will be if we buy a midfielder to take his position next season.

Can't pass and lost a shocking amount of 50/50 situations. Not getting a DM this summer will be costly if Fred keeps putting in performances like these

We need to get this guy out of the midfield. We just can't challenge with that lack of composure and ability.

As much as I also don't think Matic is the answer, that pass he played into Lingard just shows what we're missing. Matic doesn't have the legs, and dithers too often to play in any high-tempo games, but when given time he can supply quality to the attackers.

Really need some reinforcements in the middle.

Bit rich to say that after today's game.

Even when he’s favourite to win the ball he somehow doesn’t

A rare breed

Two games to show the best and worst of Fred this past week. When we're camped in our own box, and Fred has to simply rat around the space in front of our goal, you want him in there. However, in matches where the opposition sits off and cedes possession Fred is just not good enough.

Fred having the ball is not a threat for the opposition. It remains bizarre that we paid pretty much £50m for Fred. Especially when we had Herrera at the time. Yes, we needed a better midfielder than Herrera but Fred isn't that. So effectively we spent £50m going sideways, arguably backwards. And next summer we probably need to spend another £50m upgrading on Fred. Would've been better to get it right first time around.

Never seen such a poor player for us get so many minutes. He played over 50 matches last season and it's going to be the same this season.

Exposes us to counter routinely due to sloppy passes or poor touches. Genuinely no idea how after 6 transfer windows, no one at our club has thought how desperately we need to upgrade him.

The forum always need an scapegoat. If he's that bad, why would Ole pick him? I'm sure Ole wants to remain the Utd manager so why would he play someone who would cost him games? Also how the feck do you get to second in the league with two squad players playing 80% of the games in midfield where games are won/lost?

Our fans have made their minds up. It is what it is. This was our best away performance of the season. Might not be saying much, but we looked much more solid. McFred is the most solid midfield we have and they will continue to play together. Matic will get starts in some games at Old Trafford against bottom table teams, but it'll mostly be McFred.

It will be AWB. We will sign a midfielder next summer and Fred will get benched. When we're still not playing the football people want to see, people will move on to AWB.

He won the ball and passed it to Bruno for the first goal. People only see what they want to see. He wasn’t good but to act like he’s not able to punish teams on the turnover is false. Last season he was one of our more progressive passers and pressers and a major enabler of Bruno’s outstanding form.

I thought he was quite good, his job is to get about and make a nuisance of himself which is what he does. So he might not win the ball cleanly all the time. When he doesn’t he is still slowing down the opposition and he won the ball plenty today in really difficult situations and started counter attacks.

Certainly one moment that sticks out in my head when he had a bad touch and caused a counter attack but don’t think his passing was that bad at all today.

To be honest I’m amazed at how fast Fred can change direction as Quickly as he does. Doing it and keeping his balance as well. I doubt many in our team can shift as fast as he does And change direction.

I'm sure you're waiting on the pass completion stats to populate!

I’ll get back to you on that!

But no, I don’t think he had a good game today on visual check. He was busy as always but lost a lot of duels and his passing felt quite negative.

I'm aware of that and I'm aware that Fred's strength is winning the ball and giving it to a better player. Which is great, especially in big games, where we invite teams onto us and he can slip it to someone close by who can set Rashford running etc.

I stand by what I said though. For large parts of the game West Ham used Fred to take breathers. They let him have the ball because they knew, for the most part, he doesn't use it well enough or quickly enough to cause them trouble while regrouping. We spent £50m on a player who is arguably worse than the player he replaced. Not the first time we've not upgraded with a transfer since Sir Alex retired, no. However, it does stick out like a sore thumb on days like today.

Nah, new scapegoat. Decent player who just isn't having the best of starts to the season. Not the only one in the team.

Isn't ideally good enough to start of our perfect XI but the reactions are laughable.

I can appreciate the impartiality, it's much needed on this crazy forum.
For what it's worth I called him my MOTM on Tuesday and would be happy for him to be part of the squad particularly against better teams, but he can clearly be upgraded on if we are to become one of those 'better' teams ourselves.

Worrying that McTominay, who just came back, looked miles better than him. This level is far too high for him sadly, doesn't have the skill for it.

I hope Ole sees it and tries something else. Would like to see Pogba alongside McTominay in the middle.

I definitely agree we need someone better on the ball for games like today. I thought even McTominay was better today, he had some nice triangles and passing interchanges with the wide players.

This fecking guy.

Ole’s reasoning to not play the likes of Donny or Sancho falls flat when this guy for the best part if 2 years delivers 5/10 performances every single game without being dropped.

One of the worst players to constantly get a starting spot I’ve ever seen I just don’t get it he’s fecking useless.

Just saw this on Youtube someone wrote

Fred’s weaknesses :

1) unable to pass 2) no holding abilities 3) no pace 4) no vision 5) no forward drive 6) no leadership 7) unable to shoot 8) unable to cross 9) no aerial capabilities 10) not a match winner

I really, really, really don’t understand what you hope to see from Pogba in the middle that we haven’t seen already in his 5 years here.

We have seen him in CM with 29yo Matic. With Herrera. With Fellaini. With Fred. What makes you think with McTominay it’d be different?

Pogba’s a player who when given space will cause damage with his passing, vision and running. But when pressed he will often overcomplicate things and lose possession. Like he did against Young Boys or today in the second half before being taken off. You could take Jesus off the cross and put him next to Pogba in the middle and it will make absolutely no difference.

New Scapegoat? He’s been shite for 18 months and hes called out after every match. If you asked a thousand fans who our worst player is 999 of them would say Fred he’s dog shit.

88% pass success rate today. I don't even think he played that well, but this is a really odd performance to point to as an example of Fred being a disaster. He was fairly non-descript and for the most part just kept things ticking over even though, yes, he did miss a few passes.

It will be AWB. We will sign a midfielder next summer and Fred will get benched. When we're still not playing the football people want to see, people will move on to AWB.
AWB is bad, but off the ball he is very decent. Even saved us this match. Fred is a walking disaster all around. Absolute priority is to replace him. As I said in a previous post of mine - it's like playing against 12 men when he is on the pitch. The right back is still a weak spot for us, but not as much as midfield. Ideally we would want two players next summer - a DM, a CM and a RB. A DM and RB would be a huge upgrade on themselves, especially a solid DM who plays like an actual footballer.

Calm down fellas. These are his customary crap games at the start of the season. He will get better after few games as he has been for past few seasons , till then we just need to hang tight as we don’t have any other option. We saw today as well even Scotty ( also probably due to not completely recovered )does not have pace to catch up on counter attacks. Unfortunately we don’t have luxury to drop him.

It's annoying seeing him try to do things we know he cannot do

But then it's also annoying when he can't pass or control the ball from a five yard pass.

His biggest strength is meant to be harrying, pressing and getting the ball. It should then be giving it to the better players but he's like a poor version of Anderson

He hasn't started the season well. But we will use him for the big games because of the base he provides is the best for a 90 minute game
The annoying thing is that he doesn't have the strength or tackling technique to even make his hurrying effective

Pogba of this season is a different player. Much more disciplined in his position, better at keeping the ball and seems to be working harder. McTominay has the attributes Pogba lacks, like intensity. They could potentially make a good in games where we will dominate.

For me Ole needs to start experimenting with the midfield, Fred's form and overall is not good enough to take us to that next level and Matic can't be relied on.

It’s like even the things he was good at he can no longer do to a good level.

Yep, vultures will be circling AWB

Generally how it works at big clubs. Players who lack the quality to match a big club's ambition stick out like a sore thumb. We were correct to upgrade on Lindelof and we'd be correct to upgrade on the midfielders.
