Gaming Fortnite .

I can take bloom, but shotguns will destroy this game - doubles pumps (which I use, as well), pump-tac are OP yet can be infuriatingly inconsistent.

Shotgun to the face, only 9 damage...
But that's pretty much bloom right? The spread of the bullets when you shoot. The way it works now is that bullet spread is random, meaning if someone is standing still and you shoot from 1 meter away straight in his face there is still a possibility that all the bullets miss, or what happens alot: only 1 bullet hits for 9 damage.

I'm really enjoying the 20v20 mode. Just won 2 of them in a row. Although that's obviously mostly luck with the team you're thrown into, I think I'm starting to get the hang of this.

To newcomers... Having the high ground when it comes to building is everything.

I've finished #2 three games in a row now. Just can't kill the final guy because my building game is non existent and I can't play in stealth mode during the final circles.

On the other hand I lost a 1 vs 1 today after I had the high ground against a hiding wanker. I got right up to his face but my internet lagged just when I was about to shoot.

fecker had only 1 kill other than killing me.

Do you need to build in this game to be decent or can I just sneak around and kill people?

I tried both ways.

Building is 95% of the time necessary but don't let that put you off. It's really satisfying when you kill someone and you know you won because of your superior building.

Also, those build fights you see on twitch, youtube etc. You don't need to know that much and focus on building up and up and up. I've rarely had that kind of fight and the opponent was too advanced in building for me. You're not going to face that in every game though.

If you have a good aim, building will be the main reason you win most of your games.

Especially since turbo has been buffed, building is a must where it used to be helpful. Especially if you play on console with that slightly op auto-aim going on.

Good news is as @Slevs rightly says, most of the build battles are small ramp rushes. The big battles can get insane though and it's epic when you win one.

Incidentally, nerfs are coming to materials. Llamas, mat drops in houses, and what you attain from farming. Could be an interesting change with people running out of mats before they build the Great Wall of China.

I have some noob questions:
1. Llamas?!
2. As in mats from furniture or you won't find as many weapons, ammo, etc. within houses?
3. What do you mean by farming?

Downloaded this yesterday. Will I instantly be competitive (I'm decent at shooter games like COD), or am I too late to the party and get killed within the first 10 kills or so the first few weeks?

I've been playing shooters as long as I can remember and I still getting murdered in 1on1's against anyone who knows how to build.

I'd recommend you learn the basics in the 5 teams of 20 match up where you can hide at the back. Just drop with the majority of your team and learn the basics of building. At least how to put a wall and stairs up between you and an opponent.

We can get a redcafe team going.

1) Llamas - I assume you don't know what these are. They're like grounded "air" drops. In the shape of Llama, they'll provide you with ammo, resources, nades and/or health packs.
However, the recent update will cut down resources provided from 500 to 200 as well as removing rocket ammo from the Llama.
2) Mats found within chests or just simply lying around in a house will now drop as stacks of 20.
3) Farming for materials is unchanged.

Honestly, unless you're a pro gamer, you'll struggle a lot and I mean a lot. Firstly, it's third person so nothing like your average COD or Halo. The shooting mechanics are different, the ARs have a tonne of bloom, snipers are not hitscan, shotguns are inconsistent yet the most commonly used weapon. The final hurdle to overcome which may take a while is building. If you don't know how to competently build, you're fecked every time you come up against a semi decent player. I feel for relatively new players as the game has advanced so much since release that it's almost impossible to get used to it quickly.

You missed out the overall most important point.

After all that struggle, the sleepless nights, rage, anger, frustration... Once you win that first game, there's no better feeling in the world.

I played the game on release so I was fortunate enough to win a game whilst most people were noobs - luckily for me, I've not really had that struggle! However, winning still feels great even after accumulating around 300+ wins in total.

That's my main fear, but I'll give it a shot this week and see how it goes. Thanks for the heads up!

We should make a noob squad. I'm trying to improve my building game so I'm almost exclusively playing squads these days.

I've no problem.

Me and @2mufc0 played a couple of days back. I also know @syrian_scholes wants to play whenever he can, we should set up a squad. Add me on PS4, SlevsKelevra

Ah, I'm on PC and I play cross platform with peeps on PS4 but it's much harder for the console players because PC servers are a lot more competitive, specially for building and stuff.

Just started playing this few days ago. Kind of addicted but I suck at building.

The last 4 squad games i won, i was on cross platform. Yeah it's a struggle but it makes us ps4 guys better.

Nah it's really not that hard for console gamers anymore. Turbo building has massively helped and that auto aim closes the gap. I like playing on the ps4 from time to time, they've done that good a job.

But I'm on pc I don't mind a few games, my building needs a lot of work too though my aim is usually pretty spot on. My biggest problem is not playing enough sadly :(

I had to google the llama... I've never even seen a single one. I thought you meant the supply crates that drop later in the game at first.

Sounds like we'll need you to carry the caf squad ;)

You need to get used to the bloom and the rng, but it's not hard to get kills. The hardest part is game sense and knowing when and how to build really.

That comes with playing though, so don't worry about stats and wins and all that crap and just get into games. Also dropping in the wood areas is great to farm and practice building. Good luck mate!

Getting used to this. Won solo on my first game for the day. Even got pushed during the game and managed to kill him.

Finally, shotguns are being nerfed!

And please for the love of god, get rid of those shit fecking jetpacks now!

The shotgun nerf doesn't bother me as I can hit headshots, but it's good for the idiots who just spam. But tbf the best thing they did there was buff the smgs, they are viable in close range fights now

What are the point of those challenges? I haven't paid any attention to them.

To gain battle pass tiers. If you reach tier 60-70, you earn enough V-bucks to buy a battle pass for free for next season.

So are shotguns just to be avoided now? I just crept up to a camper and shot him from point blank range and he didn't die. It took me by surprise so much I nearly lost the 1on1.

No they are still all powerful, you just have to rely on headshots more or other weapons too now. Heavy shotguns haven't been nerfed though, which is odd.
