Gaming Football Manager 2024

It’s shite this year

Feels like the players are all moaning cnuts whilst the game is trying to push stupid player promises more than ever. The transfer system is also frustrating having to speak to the agents etc

Just won the double with 4 of the best young defenders in world football - Silva, Scalvini, Colwil and Todibo and half the squad is up in arms about defenders squad depth

I can’t get into and I‘ve been playing FM/Champ manager since 99.

Some of the things that happen are just stupid. Tottenham recalled Udogie because I wasn't playing him as a complete wing back, I was playing him as a wing back. He then just rots on their bench for the rest of the season.

Something very strange is happening with AI squad selection. Barcelona just rocked up to San Sebastian to face my Sociedad side with a team full of kids and B-team players for absolutely no discernible reason:

They had Ter Stegen, De Jong, Torres, Fati, Pedri, Gavi, Balde and Lukaku (lol) fit and ready to play:

It's a normal league game. The title race is on (they were 1 point behind Real before the match). There is no fixture congestion (international break immediately after this game):

Why have they chucked the game? What the feck is going on?

I've experienced this bug in my save as well. Playing with Lyon and PSG just randomly, for no reason at all, tend to leave Mbappe out of the squad for some of their more difficult away games. Then he's back in the team for the next drubbing at home. It's irritating as it doesn't make any sense at all.

Bizarre that this was not fixed in the major update last month.

The problem before was that teams were not rotating and players were seriously lacking match fitness due to it...seems they've fixed that bug by just completely rotating teams and ended up with another bug.

It's a bit embarrassing that they keep making 2 steps forward and 5 steps back with every new game.

Apart from the rotation issue, like others have already pointed out, the senseless moaning about squad depth in random positions is irritating as feck as well.

Also had one of my influential midfielders demand a new deal with increased pay last night, my wage budget was about 100k in the red so I told him I'm going to give him a new one when the season ends (happened in November), but the prick said he wanted it immediately and a few weeks later had a meeting with a couple of other pricks taking his side and demanding a contact for him right now. One of them was Braganca who I had just signed from Sporting the previous window.

Surely this shite never happens in real life? Giving your manager grief just because your pal in the team is not getting a new deal immediately? Come on.

Decided to start a Pentagon challenge save.

My first job was with Paraguay U23 and I somehow managed to both qualify and then win the Olympics.

Spent a few months out of a job after resigning and managed to land the Independiente Santa Fe job in Colombia. Quite happy with that. Great opportunity to build my reputation and gain coaching badges with a competitive team in a decent standard league.

Finally got a newgen winger through my academy with a bit of pace and a decent mentality, so couldn't resist chucking him in for a few end of season games. :(

Well done Barca, he's 15.

I think it was in FM22 but I had great regens coming through at Real Sociedad. One intake, I had two world class potential center mids coming through at the same time where one of them had 199 PA. It was insane.

I'm not sure this one is even that good of a prospect in the grand scheme of things, but for the save I'm doing (only using Basque players), he might as well be Messi with rocket boots. I don't even understand how he's already getting goals and assist for fun:

In even stranger goings on, Steve Cooper's Atletico Madrid (que?) have somehow gotten themselves relegated:

They still have prime Joao Felix, who'll be playing in the Segunda unless he can force his way out:
Screenshot-2023-12-15-070336.png

Oblak still has world class stats outside of his physicals, but somehow shipped 76 goals and averaged 6.6 all season:
Screenshot-2023-12-15-070359.png

Screenshot-2023-12-15-070848.png

They'd never even finished close to the bottom half before this season.

The goalkeeper injury stuff is just silly. In the lower leagues and my keeper has broken his hand and fractured his arm twice. In the same bloody season.

There’s far too many goals occurring from my experience. I’ve won a lot of games 5-3, 6-2, 7-3. I concede no matter who I’m against. 3 clean sheets in the last 25 despite trying different things. Long range shots are just always flying in.

I'm getting to the point where I consider buying it. Fatigued from the competitive games I usually play, and I've got my fm itch. It's just chill and fun.

Worth it? Better than the last few editions? Quite excited about set pieces and such.

Dude sort out your club badges man. Da feck is that? Eye sore..
a face pack wouldn’t hurt either. Seriously what year is this 2007?

I haven't bought FM in a few years. Considering it though. How easy are these packs to integrate?

Finished 10th as Como in Serie A following our promotion. Predicted 20th so will take that! Great season that included the league double over eventual winners AC Milan

Thought that would give me a bit more money to play with but board is being stingy as feck. I'll start the next season but very willing to jump ship to any bigger club that has improved finances.

This bug has brought me a long way in cup tournaments with lesser teams. It was like I was the only one prioritizing having the best players rested before important national cup matches and even in the european cups.

But yeah, it seems that it's hard to find the right balance of many of the new features they are pushing. It's either too little or too much.
It's obviously difficult to find the balance, but I think they sometimes go far too down the same road. For example, with the whole press conference thing. In the build up to the last few releases it's been sold as a cool new feature, that the interaction with the surroundings is developed further to include more types of answers and so on. In reality, it's a tedious to go through all the time.

The fitness seems like an issue. Players are dead even with rotating/rest etc. I can take teams far in the UCL/World Cup or whatever due to the opposition being dead on their feet.

I went back to my usual FM21 and the game gives more than a challenge than fm24 at the moment.

Bit the bullet and went for this. Friendlies didn’t tell my much with half the squad injured.

First game of the season. Conceded 3 against Fulham. Quite realistic I hear you say. Scored 5 though, with Martial getting a brace. Pure fantasy.

Man this game is really bad  The defending in this game. I’m playing league two but it’s just unbelievably bad. The amount of inexplicable defensive errors being made.
Defenders don’t close down attackers, they don’t track runs and the way any player under 6 feet tall gets brushed off the ball is laughable.

Way, way, way too many goals. Im currently 2nd with Mk dons half way through the season. After 23 games Ive scored 62 and conceded 46. The amount of comebacks when 3-4 goals down in the game is also ridiculous. I must have been 3/4 goals up about 6-7 times and every single time the opposition pull a few goals back.

Not noticed the interaction thing so at least they sorted that before I started my first long save but this game is absolutely dreadful in terms of the matches.

Someone was winning 6-0 and ended up losing 7-6. Screenshot was on that nocontextfm the other day. I think I'd give up on the game at that point.

Yeah, there's far too many goals. Clean sheets are hard to come by, even if you're a considerably stronger team. I won the league and probably kept around 5 clean sheets all season

 That’s mad. Not actually had anything that bad but led a game 6-1 and it ended 6-5.

Started having interaction issues now.
39 year old squad player moaning about minutes. Player asking to leave cos he thinks he won’t get a work permit.
Can’t sign players on loan because I prefer a deep lying forward to a target forward. Sigames at this stage are just pissing on their customers.
Here’s this garbage product and you take it.

Sitting in League 1 with St Albans. Just made 1.4m from an FA Cup loss with West Ham in the 4th round. Golden.

Still not started this. Simultaneously wanting to do a save and lacking the desire to play it.

Started yesterday. With United. Can't sell a single player. Bloody hell, they didn't need to make it that real.:smirk:

Setting your tactic to attacking is kind of silly on this game. I know overloads are a thing in modern football but crikey, you can overload to an insane level in this match engine and make it so crap teams can punch way above expectation.

In this save Ten Hag has become a Championship manager. Got sacked from United and then took over Fulham and won the Championship title with them. Then decided to leave them and join Leicester who were near the bottom of the Championship...

Every time I check this thread my new save gets pushed back a month

Been off for 2 weeks after surgery so decided to start a save on FM Touch which I’ve just deleted the save in favour of lobbing my iPad out the window.

Got Vicenza from Serie C to Serie A. 1 Season in C, 2 in B, 2nd Season in A & to be fair was doing pretty well. Finished 9th the first season in A & was mid-table coming out of Jan, I’d just beaten Napoli then came a game against Empoli who were languishing 17th to my 10th. I’d had 2 utter nonsensical loses to start January but had won my other 2. So back to Empoli, I start the game cross comes over to Colombo who hits the post from point blank range, nothing much happens then book 33rd minute pretty much the same set up for them & bam goal.

I guess my frustration spawns from increasingly noticing animations that would see my players miss or hit the post where the opposition would just become peak barca.

I get a throw in on the edge of their box, no one shows for the ball it’s gets thrown away & their off on the counter.

They get a throw in it pings back to the thrower who goes peak Becks to provide a cross for them.

All my strikers missing one on ones to then see the opposition tiki taka their way through to score with their 8 for finishing midfielder. As I say I wasn’t doing particularly badly I’m just over the way the match engine animates things I suppose. . .

Not sure how they cure it tbf

I beat him 7-0 with my St Alban's team and then lost 0-2 away from home. He is clearly still having trouble beating the big dogs away.

Here is my update to all who are interested to play with United. After few hours of playing just a pre season, i managed to spend a lot and sell a lot (now i know how it feels to be Pep).
I couldn't sell a single player but then i started to loan players with huge wages (and transfer that money in transfers budget).

Martial. Loan fee 4 mil, 90% of salary and future fee 40mil.
Maguire. 3 mil loan, 13 mil future fee and 90% salary.
McT. 2 mil fee, 20 mil future fee. 80% salary.
Lindelof. 24 mil to Spurs.
Varane. This is interesting. He requested transfer because he wanted to go to Saudis. Saudis offered 70 mil. I negotiated 65 plus 50 mil In 12 months. Also saved 20 mil on salary there.
Donny. 1 mil loan and 5 mil future fee.

I bought;
Osimhen. 100 mil straight (that hurts).
Scalvini. 100 mil with dozen clauses.
Todipo. 70 mil with clauses.
Barco. Wonderkid lb. 13 mil
Duarte. Wonderkid winger. 4 mil
Vitik. Wonderkid defender. 9 mil.
Konate. Wonderkid striker. 15 mil
Koyade. Wonderkid RB. 20 mil

Showtime.

Edit: 4 games in PL. 22 goals scored. 433 with Mount and Bruno in attacking mezzala roles working great so far. Casemiro is king of set pieces. Osimhen is a monster.

Started a save with Leyton Orient. I have 8 players out injured after 4 games.

Someone asked SI about their squad building still and they basically confirmed they’re “happy with it” and won’t be updating it again for this game. This is despite a truckload of issues still present.

If they were being honest they’d probably say they aren’t happy with it/don’t care and it would take ripping up the coding and starting fresh to actually fix it.

I've just finished the second season and managed to buy Dayot Upamecano for 30 million and he wants to be a squad player. He wasn't unhappy or transfer listed his contract wasn't running down and he played 30 odd games for them. It just seems a little odd.

Has anyone else noticed any other big players randomly being sold for a low fee?

Haven’t played FM since FM12

Tried FM13 but found it way too over complicated and focused on tactics

What are they like now? Do you have to be tactically spot on still or you’ll lose every game despite having the best players?

That's literally the biggest issue with SI and Miles.

There biggest challenge is not improving the graphics, but improving squad building AI and the transfers AI, and they really need to build it up from scratch.

The game is fine if you're playing a journey man save or starting with bottom of the pyramid team, but the game gets boring too quickly if you start with a Man Utd.

Even journeyman type saves are a bit boring on this version because you can do really well really quickly. It's an easier game this season.

I'm just really addicted to it. It's one of the few games I can play non stop through a year.
