Gaming Football Manager 2024

Will the updates they've claimed are coming in the next patch only apply to new saves? I've really enjoyed my current one on the whole. Match engine is much improved on my last game (21), but the player interactions are so broken.

It's genuinely ruining this save which is a real disappointment. I won't give them more money for the editor to fix the mistakes either the lazy sods.

Going to buy this off Epic Games during the week. (Birthday weekend and buying a lot of more important stuff this weekend so FM is lower down until I get paid on the 27th/28th) but got an Epic Games 33% coupon so will be getting it for $27.

Not finished with my FM22 save yet though so I'll play this when the patch comes out.

Can't bother waiting until Epic puts it out for free in like 5 months or whatever.

It's probably a mix of a few things which is down to programming of the game being too basic at times.

It's a bit shite that you have to essentially make the game harder for yourself because it's too easy though.
Yeah that's true! Just finished my first season with United, winning the quadruple :wenger:

What's the most bizarre team performance people have seen so far? On mine, Brighton got relegated bottom of the table 3 games before the end of the season.

The Dutch League is absolute shite. I came in to the club with 7 games gone. We were bottom and on only 1 point.

Finished 4th and qualified for the UECL. Lost two games from when I came in to Ajax and AZ. Both heavy defeats. Signed two players in January, both regens. One an instant starter that was playing in the Belgian 2nd Division and the other a sub striker that was playing in Norway.

All I did was drop my tactic in that I've played at every other club and drop in set pieces. I have set up a long throw, an inswinger near post, a far post and a short set piece tactic. The tactic is just a standard gegenpress with a few minor tweaks to it. It essentially is overloading in attack and appears too much for weak opponents.

I think this kind of highlights to me how weak AI management is. It's basically the exact same side but I've managed to take a team from 6 losses in 7 and no wins to only 2 losses and 22 wins in 27 games.

Picked up a copy yesterday and started my first save as United. Haven't played as a top tier team in donkeys. United in FM24 are far better than real life

First thing I've noticed is that I've found it difficult to snap up quality staff. I made the error of sacking 5 of my physios who were muck. The plan was to instantly replace them with considerably better physios. Out of the 5 new physios I attempted to hire, only 1 accepted to join us. All the others opted for new contracts at their current clubs. It seems its just easier to get someone with a very high level of judging staff and negotiating skills as a DOF to hire everyone for you. I mean, that's what you'd do if you ran your own company right?

£40.49 on Steam!

Had some old credits on CDKeys from years of buying PSN money so I managed to get it for £28.50. No access to the beta but that's fine. Everyone can play test it, make skins, etc.. and then I'll start Nov 6th.

That's precisely where I bought my copy

I definitely think it seems a bit easy this year.

The only thing I’ve encountered that’s consistent and a bit weird is the “a group of players think we lack sufficient depth” thing that seems to happen a bit often for me. That does my head in especially as most of the time it’s outside the transfer window. Like what would you like me to do, come see me when I can actually strengthen the team

Team talks and press conference I can’t comment on because I just don’t do them. I don’t experience much interaction logic either as I just tend to ignore that part of the game.

I send in my assistant to do all that. Not sure if that negatively affects team cohesion enough for it to even be worth it. I can't be arsed reading through reams of questions.

Same here. I do as little of that stuff as i can. It’s just how I enjoy playing it.

Also Martial doesn't know how to stop scoring. I thumped Chelsea 4 - 0 in my first game and lost narrowly to City away 0 - 1. Clearly not realistic on the City front. Antony is also overpowered. Varane was sold immediately to some Saudi team and the board are up in arms over how little I sold him for. Never happy.

It's great craic so long as you don't take it too seriously. Obviously my main motivation for buying FM24 was to right the wrongs of real life. I sacked Murtough immediately.

You seem to know your shit so maybe you can help me on something that is confusing me. So I downloaded a player search filter that basically picks players who have noteworthy mental characteristics such as model professional, perfectionist etc. I added in all the traits you'd want for a centre half and found myself a nice pool of young players one might expect would go on to great things. So I scouted them all, and my main chief scout got back to tell me to give them all a wide birth. Loads of E and F ratings. Surely this can't be correct? Is my chief scout on Meth or something? Can the scouts even be trusted in FM24?

I think team talks and press conferences help in terms of motivating players. I started with all attributes as 1 but motivating is now 20 for me because I do those.

The only team talks I don't do are when they ask to hold a team meeting about title chances or cup final chances. They never go well so I just avoid them completely.

Do you do the pre / post match interviews?

I do. Also in answer to your other question on scouting it's kind of a mix and depends on your scouts potential/current ability attributes and adaptability. They won't always be spot on but most of the time they aren't too far from the mark. Have you only scouted for a week? It's always worth fully scouting for players you're keen on. Also getting them in on trials if possible always helps.

Ah I forgot about the trials! They're a great way of getting the full scope more quickly. Will need to get cracking on that. My chief scout at United isn't all that great. Not sure why he's even chief.

For press conferences I usually just pick the second option every time. But I tend to skip most of them.

I wish they could make them more interesting

Ridiculous title win. Lost the last game of the season but so did Ajax so all good on that front. Heerenveen also dropped points and it went to goal difference. We had an almost exact same record as each other through the season. Glad it didn't go down to H2H as they beat me and we drew the other game.

Sadly no fairytale ending. Lost in the ECL final to Leipzig. Took the Fiorentina job midway through the season so just waiting to join them.

They've turned AWB into a moany, troublesome little b**ch! Feckin hilarious. I ended up having to sell him he was stirring the shit that bad

It's a tiny bit excessive for a player to reevaluate their entire career and club as a result of you failing to strengthen your forward line to their liking.

They said early December. They’ve lied again! :p

Interesting to see what ends up being nerfed. Hopefully ups the difficulty a bit.

Will this major update fix my issue with AWB? Also is it only for new saves?
From the post:

This update contains fixes and improvements across multiple areas of the game. Gameplay upgrades are compatible with existing careers, although you will need to start a new saved game to benefit from the data and competition updates.

I did think that about doing a Dutch league save .
Was going to start one with Heerenveen and couldn’t help but notice their weekly wage budget is less than clubs in league two in England
Also what kind of weirdo are you playing friendlies on international breaks.

Players will be interested and the good thing about the Dutch and Belgian leagues is that they all have loads of talented and cheap youngsters you can sign.

I always do that. Easy way to build up fitness of rotation players and improve tactical cohesion etc. Plus the level of most of my players meant that they weren't involved in internationals so setting up easy friendlies helps keep momentum.

Don’t you just let the fringe players play in the reserves in midweek to build fitness. That’s how I do it.

Sometimes. It depends on my depth and also the team I'm playing as. For example in the Dutch league there is only the league and one cup so once you're out of the cup you have barely any other games and there are sometimes decent chunks between league games so I think it's helpful to stick a friendly in to help build up team and tactical cohesion (does reserve football do that? I didn't think it would).

At Everton I might just do one or two friendlies in the year.

I see it kind of as when teams do games behind closed doors during the season or international breaks.

All reads well so hopefully it actually is what they say. I wish they’d go into more detail instead of just ‘Improve AI team selection logic’. Nothing on transfers either.

It's annoying how consistently appalling retiring players are at basically every staff role.

95% of the time it's the same thing: Decent determination (because it seems to be the only thing that carries over), possibly decent adaptability, 1-5 for pretty much every other stat. I refuse to believe that the vast majority of high level professional players who want to go into coaching aren't good enough to train the Dog and Duck.

Yeah it's rare that I want to hire my recently retired players as staff.

Appears the interactions are still broken. I didn’t start a new save but I thought the update was save game compatible. Anyway got to the Cop America semi final with Jamaica. Held a team meeting saying well done for overachievement etc:
All players reacted negatively. Stupid Feckin game .

I feel like reactions are probably a deep rooted problem that they can tweak but can’t seem to fix for whatever reason.

They never really broke the game for me tbh anyway despite them being stupid.

La Liga is a fecking hard league to win. About to finish on 95 points and yet I'm 3rd, Real Madrid on 100 pts top and Barca on 97 pts. 4th season in, 3rd the highest I've finished but got a few cups in so far. Mainoo and Joao Veloso both class and running things for me in midfield.
