Gaming Football Manager 2024

Giving this a go on gamepass for a quid. Managing Real Sociedad with only Basque players (feck John Aldridge).

The player interactions are genuinely worse than ever:
  • Mikel Merino spent months leading a squad rebellion because he reacted negatively to a random 'leave to assistant' full time team talk that everyone else reacted positively to.
  • This went on for almost half a season with the reason that dressing room morale was low... when every single player other than Merino was either in neutral or good morale for the whole time because we were mostly in good form.
  • Almost every member of the squad supported him in his 'dressing room morale is too low' complaint, while they themselves all had good morale.
  • My sub RW scores two worldies in the first half of a CL tie against Shakhtar. I single him out for praise at half time. "Appears motivated and inspired". Great. Comes out for second half. "Appears confused and demotivated" for the entire second half.
  • The whole squad is now rioting as "we don't have enough depth in defence"... because I sold a B team fullback who isn't good enough to play professional football to a side in the 5th tier.

Just "tested" this one again. Fecking Mikel Oyarzabal scores 4 goals in the first half against Granada. He's literally on a 10.0. I praise his performance at half time. He looks happy.

Fix your shit, SI.

Oyarzabal is always dynamite on FM.

United budgets are a bit grim in this game aren’t they.
Very much so! And besides the transfer system/valuations itself don't align in my view. £100m seems like the norm for a good, known player.

Also, does agent negotiations get easier as I become more successful/recognised as a manager? Mid way thru my first season, almost every agent so far has been a cnut, barely allowing any room in negotiations. In fact seems easier to negotiate with clubs than agents.

Some news about the next patch

I resigned from Vikingur on June 1st because they didn't want to give me anything. Have joined STVV in Belgium. Just hit December and I'm top of the league by a few points.

Have checked Vikingur and they exited the CL playoffs but are doing alright in the EL league phase. Have 4 wins and 1 loss. Hopefully they'll become a European regular now due to my management!

I’d also like to point out that this type of communication is soooo much better. There is literally no downside to it and it makes fans feel much more heard.

I finally started my career in Serie B with Como at the weekend. Because lake como is beautiful (allegedly) and they have a lovely kit. Dennis Wise is also the current president and Cesc Fabregas is a youth team manager (IRL he's the caretaker coach right now) so seemed an interesting gig.

Enjoying it so far, we're top of the league after 10 games after predicted to be mid table. A very basic Gegenpress 4-2-3-1 was all I could really manage with the players. Got some decent loans in but would rather focus wages and budget on potential serie A players.

Haven't yet had any interactions that really pissed me off but seeing a lot about them online. Found it annoyingly difficult to get rid of some unwanted big earners and the vice captain is proving impossible to shift as he was a team leader when I started. But that doesn't seem outrageous in term of realism.

I hope you have reported this as a bug on the SI forums?

Won the league with STVV. Will do another campaign with them and leave at the end of the season unless a better job comes up midway through. Hoping to get a move to the Portuguese league or Ligue 1 next. Even the best Dutch league clubs or a more established Belgian club would be good.

Does anyone here know whether I can get hold of a current database for some of the old football manager games? I tried the 2024 one with my son and it is way more complicated than it was when I was his age. So I thought if I could get a new database with the old game, it would be more fun for him.

Someone made a classic database for FM23, but they're a lot of work so I doubt there's anything for FM24 yet.

I think you may have misunderstood me (or I may have misunderstood you). I was looking for something like this, 2024 (or just recent) player database which you can use on Football manager 2005 (or just an earlier, simpler incarnation than the 2024 version)

People have done modern databases on Championship Manager 01/02 but I think it would be hard to find on older FM versions since they aren't 'classics'.

That would be good. Do you have any links? I remember 01/02 being a great game.

Picked this up yesterday off Dorking Wanderers for £20 yesterday haha! Is there a DF11 facepack floating around for United players and staff?

Resigned from STVV after winning a second title in a row. Struggling to get a new job! Applied for Genk, Nantes, Lens and Malmo and got rejected from all of them.

Funny that i don't even get an offer for interview from Genk after winning two titles in the same league as them.

Fixed.

Are you just winning in the first season wherever you go?

First Iceland season I didn't but aside from that I have yeah, it's not difficult with a transfer window and good tactic under your belt in sub-par leagues.

In my Everton save it took 4ish seasons to win the league I believe.

Struggled in Europe at both Vikingur and STVV though.

It is a shame because I should just start trying a new tactic but when you know one that works it's hard to revert from it.

Maybe his traits/tactical ideas don’t match the club vision. Been knocked back for loads of jobs for that despite being qualified.

Still feels incredibly unrealistic for a club to not even interview the guy who has come in and instantly won two titles.

Got the PEC Zwolle job. Bottom of the Eredivisie after 7 games. Here we go.

Is it though? If they have a certain ethos not to hire certain types of managers why play a certain way.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong just offering a possible explanation.

It's plausible I guess but highly unlikely. Guaranteed SW is playing a pretty popular formation and style. I doubt there's many clubs in the world these days that would turn their nose up at that because they play a slightly different way.

It’s probably a rep issue. The club he took over probably had low rep and even with league titles it wouldn’t have risen that quick, hence why his next job was the bottom of the Dutch league.

It's probably a mix of a few things which is down to programming of the game being too basic at times.

It's a bit shite that you have to essentially make the game harder for yourself because it's too easy though.

Yeah feels like the game doesn't allow for players/managers to properly explode and increase their rep in a short spell of time.

Probably yeah.

@Maagge

To showcase how easy the game is when you figure out what tactic works...all I've done is drop my main tactic in and my set piece tactic in and cheesed a little with friendlies to motivate players and get dynamics up but it took 12 competitive games to lose or draw a game. Also not really played the big boys so that helps too.

I've noticed on this version that CMs are shite. Basically putting players in the DM and AM roles is the way to go for some reason. Also inverted players are OP again.
