Gaming Football Manager 2015

Managing Salford City. Third season in and I'm in the Conference North, undefeated after nine games.

Board has moved me to Salford City Stadium whilst Moor Lane gets lifted to 3000 seats

The editor has made the game boring. What's the point of signing anyone when I can just move them to my club using the editor?

I can also just edit stats and make beastly youth players.

Currently, I have started a new save with Newcastle. Signed Lucas Romero, Sergi Roberto, and Richairo Zivkovic (I had too use the editor for him, he will not sign first season!). I've also signed some average but pacy wingers. In my first game I smashed Hull City 5-0. Although it helped that I maximized my teams tactical familiarity and morale using the editor. It's very hard to not use the editor, its so tempting, its just sitting there waiting to be used.

Any tips on how not to use the editor?

Not sure if this is serious.

Starting the second season with United. Cleared out the deadwood
RVP to Inter, £20m
Evans to Arsenal, £20m (!)
Fellaini to AC, £11m
Valdes to Napoli, £12m
Hernandez to Spurs, £11m
Valencia to err..Russia?, £6m

Brought in Goretzka (£27m rising to £32m) and Daniele Rugani from Juve (£25m rising to £29m), and Balanta, Lucas Romero and Tielemans also came in after I'd bought them first season and loaned them back. Nani is going to get another crack here as he had a good year at Sporting.

DDG, Johnstone
Rafael, Smalling, Jones, Rugani, Rojo, Balanta, Shaw, Blind
di Maria, Romero, Goretzka, Tielemans, Herrera, Carrick,
Mata, Januzaj, Depay, Nani
Rooney, Wilson, Henriquez

Sticking far too much faith in youth in this save...it's a risk, especially seeing how dominant Chelsea were last season and the increased expectations on me this season. Came 2nd in the league but nearly 15 points behind Chelsea. I'm hoping for 2nd again (but a lot closer this time), decent CL showing and one of the cups. That would be a solid foundation on which to smash the league and Europe in the third season.

Just lost 7-1 to a very ordinary Liverpool team in the 1st leg of the KO rounds, realism.

Gets worse, won the return leg 6-1. Down to 10 men and cutting them to shreds until I need the 7th goal, then they return to being the unbeatables again and repel everything.

Yo yo FM gurus, need some help. When you guys play 451 what roles do you give the 3 midfielders and 2 wide men? Having such inconsistent results so keen to see what you're all doing.

My DM needs to be an anchor man and my LW performs best as Ramdauter but I'm all ears for the rest.

Depends on the rest of the tactic, tbh.

Just bog standard basic and default.

If you couldn't touch the tactics side of things and just the formation and what their role is, what would you choose?

CL knockout games are always batshit mental.

In front of an anchorman, probably a Roaming Playmaker or Box to Box, and CM attack, if box to box, the other could be an Advanced Playmaker attack.

How the hell do you guys sell players?

Nobody wants Fellaini or Evans no matter how low I go. They say they will find new clubs, then do feck all about it.
I resisted the temptation to spend a lot in the first season (apart from a few deals for young players whom I loaned back for a season), meaning even the fringe/crappy players like Fellaini, Evans, Young etc got plenty of games. I was lucky that Arsenal seemed desperate for ANY defender and when they showed an interest in Evans, I just whacked his price up to £20m (he was valued around 14) just to see if they'd bite. They did the fools.

Thanks. And what about my RW if my LW is a ramdauter?

Any one of the supports should do, Winger support or Inside Forward support, even Advanced Playmaker support, depends on the players you have too.

What's your striker?

Open to suggestions with that too. What usually yields best results? I know it depends on the players skill set but just generally.

I tend to go with poacher because I've found AF to be hit and miss. How reliable is false 9?

False 9's can be good, if you have a player with good vision, but they shoot from distance a lot, which is great if you have a player to take advantage of that.Terrible if you don't though!

I tend to prefer Trequartistas if I want a creative forward, a DLF if I expect my man attack to come from the wings, and the standard AF if I want them to lead the line.

Ive had a lot of good experiences with AF. I signed Lacazette for my Schalke save, he scored 40 in his first season as an advanced forward, also managed to get 5 in the Champions League.

What I found works best for an AF is when an advanced playmaker plays behind him. Max Meyer was key in my first season. I also played a high pressing, high tempo system.

I also play 4-5-1, for this type of system, its probably better for a target man or complete forward upfront.

Another weird one - in a press conference I've just been asked "Man Utd can potentially secure a place in the EURO Cup in the next match but there's still a chance of making the Champions Cup. Presumably you're going to be doing everything possible to ensure qualification for the latter?", with reply options ranging from "we'll try" to "it's great that the possibility is even being mentioned".

We're currently 18 points clear at the top of the league.

I'd love to say, "sure, we done our best, we'll probably not make it, but I don't think anyone could blame us failing from here...."

Second season, Madrid just put Jese up for sale...for 3.2million. Snapped him up. Is he shit in this version or something?!

Think he has a negative PA, so it'll depend on your save. Think he's pretty good though, definitely a steal at that price.

Hmm, my scouts have got him at 3 star potential, was expecting at least 4. Could have an average rating. I'll keep an eye on him, got him on relatively cheap wages so will be a good back up if nothing else.

No, he's great, but in this Madrid, Barca, etc are all bat shit mental.

Last save before Bilbao I picked up Deulofeu on a free, and after 1 season sold him for 50m to Man Utd, then Barca bought him back later.

Scout and coach ratings are pretty useless unfortunately, I just ignore them most of the time. :/

Javi Martinez is 2.5 stars on mine, probably the best DM in the game, ffs.
Lol I just don't get it. Doesn't seem to be a clear enough logic behind the ratings, they get them wrong way too often. Messi is rated as 4 stars for me. Not sure how you can get any better than him...

I mean scouts should get it wrong at times, like in one save which I bought this 18 year old who looked a beast, and was 2 star ca/5 pa, turns out being such a beast so young clouded judgement, and he had peaked already. Ended up a good striker, but nowhere near the world class being touted. 37m down the drain.

It should be more accurate with established world stars like Messi though!

Yeah of course, it's weirdest when they suck at rating current ability. Potential should definitely be less obvious. Actually I don't like the way CA/PA works, I think it should be replaced with a dynamic PA that changes depending on a load of different factors...

Have a look at the pros and cons on the scout report and it will explain the reasons.

Remember the scouts star rating of a player isnt just literally a case of "how good", it is how highly they recommend that you sign the player, so takes other factors such as price, willingness to move, wages, fitness etc into account.

Pretty sure there are three star ratings - current ability, potential, and recommendation. Only the third one takes into account factors other than the player's skill.

Agree on the pros and cons bit, always find that really useful.

There are three ratings aye, my understanding was that the rating you see in the summaries etc is the recommendation though, it is considered the "default" one to show.

On which screen? On mine, the summaries in the inbox show Current Ability and Potential Ability, and the report page shows all three. Are you using FMC maybe?

...and another weird one.

"After your thoughts on winning the title in pre-season, what do you think of your chances now?"

I won the league two weeks earlier.

Ah bollocks I cant remember then :P
