Gaming Football Manager 2014

Keeping possession is impossible, I just cannot, not matter what I do. Every single game I get, I am the one with the least possession. Every game. I've tinkered with formations and mentalities and even opposition instructions and it just does not work!

Possession is for pussies, ask Klopp.

Yes but when it comes to FM it usually means the top 6 sides will spank you 6 nil.
Not really, it all depends on your team, if you have fast players you shouldn't play for possession against a stronger team. If you are the clearly better team on paper, playing for possession will be useful of course. But all in all, it's not a guaranteed win. Pep Guardiola is a noob, you know.

Indeed, i just dominated possession against Reading who were bottom with no wins, and they got their first win against me, funny how much that seems to happen eh? :)

I almost always dominate possession. Its piss easy.

I find it a tad more tricky to play a quick direct game really well, and have those on again off again attempts to make dirty football win.

I don't, and I don't want to. Mostly about 49% or 50% possession on my side, only if the opponent is really poor I dominate it. At least on my current save, that's how it is.

Keeping possession should be easy if you're not up against a significantly superior opponent. There are multiple ways to achieve it, but using short passing, retain possession, a deeper defensive line, a lower tempo and keeper distributing to defenders should lead to higher possession numbers. It might lead to a lot of sterile possession though, so whether you want that is another matter. You need to give it time, it'll probably take longer than a few games.

But if you're up against a vastly superior opponent and want to make yourself hard to beat, I find packing the midfield and playing narrow does the job fine on average.

Just managed to get promoted in my second season with York on the final day! I finished 10th in the first season so major improvement. They have absolutely no money so it was all free transfers. Managed to sign legends such as Marlon King, Luis Boa Morte and Nicky Shorey on free transfers  but they were well past their best. No luck on loan front as major clubs won't loan to you so its a fight for what you can get. Wage budget isn't that great either. I had a great start and only lost 1 out of first 15 but had a dip in the last third of the season with a terrible run. Came down to final game and I was 4th behind Accrington. I had Rochdale away who were 5th so I had all but given hope but somehow managed to win 3-0 and get promoted, great feeling. God knows how I'm going to survive in League 1 though.

I gave it 5 seasons!

Does the transfers matter that much? The whole idea of the game is fantasy and building your own squads.
It does to me I think. Obviously they don't matter anymore after 2-3 seasons. But if you take the United squad for example, a lot has changed, would you want to start a game with United if you had to play without Di Maria, Herrera, Rojo, Shaw? I always see it with a small bit of realism too.

Get transfer updates.

Just download an update, loads floating about.

Yeah, done it the other day, no issue.

Can you recommend a good one?

Can't remember the name of it as I downloaded it ages ago and updated the main transfers myself since then, got it from FM-Base though so if you have a look on there you'll find it easy enough. It's not the LFC Marshall one on there though, that's shite.

edit: it's by someone called _pr0 on there I think.

Thsts the one where Messi and Ronaldo are Liverpool fans isn't it?

LFC Marshall's updates are always really popular but always really shit. Liverpool suddenly become a team of superstars, their academy produces world class player after world class player, and half the world wants to play for them, meanwhile, Everton and United get relegated and can't sign or develop anyone of any use.

The amount of ABU's would help the popularity aa bit I would say.

It's probably coincidence.

Definitely.

Probably.

Seriously though, just looked at this years thread and by the looks of it he's made Mignolet a lot better, despite him being shite. Sterling's had a PA boost that puts him into the 180s. Sturridge is getting a boost as well, despite not being able to hit a barn door with a banjo. United's players, who always get stat reductions in LFCMarshall updates, have had their stats reduced even more. Loads of people were saying Balotelli should have his PA reduced to reflect his lack of progress, and he's decided to leave him as he is.

In one post he says he's not changing stuff off the back of the WC, then in another he's said he's given Origi a big upgrade.

He's also given Skrtel an upgrade. Usually he says he's done things when people suggest them, but he said he'll "take a look" at the suggestion to decrease Lucas and Johnson's stats so they've probably not been downgraded. Looks like another LFCMarshall special.

I downloaded the pr0 update but it will probably need a few of your own changes to it. For example Besic is still a CB on it rather than a midfielder, Enner Valencia isn't a striker but is a winger etc.

I won the first leg of Liga Adelante play offs 1-0 against Osasuna.

Second leg, I'm 2-1 up (3-1 aggregate) with 20 mins to go. They score, and I immediately g defensive, thinking they need two more goals as at 3-3 aggregate I've got the away goal advantage. They score in the 86th, by which time I'm panicking and contain but it finishes 3-2 them, 3-3 on aggregate. I'm promoted!

Or so I thought. Turns out it's done by ranking of seeds, not away goals. What kind of shit is that? Osasuna are promoted, and I'm feeling like a bigger dickhead than Henning Berg.

Think I'll give Southampton a go on the latest official patch, so will still have Shaw, Chambers, Lallana etc. Going to start a United save when the transfer window has closed.

Lallana is a bit crap, but Shaw, Ramirez, Clyne and Covren are great. They form a great spine to the team. I just won the PL (by record points) and CL (4-1 v Chelsea in the final ) in my 3rd season. Ramirez had like 23 goals and 26 assists.

Anyone have any idea why a player's face isn't showing if I go on his international team, but if I find the player through his club it does? Doing my head in.

I started playing again recently and I was reminded again why I always thought player interaction is completely broken and random. I had a player come to me and ask for an improved contract (let's ignore the fact it was still only in his first season here, so his contract wasn't even a year old). I told him to prove it on the pitch, to which he agreed. After a series of good performances his information tab shows "Feels his recent performances mean he deserves a new contract". I then went on to praise his recent form, using the mildest option. What respons do you think I get? "I think you and I differ on what passes as good form, I have been average in my opinion". What? How? Why? I'm lost.

I'm dying to get a game going right now but going to hold off another 3-4 days to make sure all the deals are finalised then possibly do a United/Chelsea save with the new players.

After two 5th place finishes, finally got Crystal Palace up to a 2nd placed finish, and into the Champions League. Have a pretty favourable draw, so quietly confident of progressing.

May need another season of pinching pennies before improving my squad...signed a couple of Japanese players to hopefully boost revenue abroad, Holtby has been playing well, Cleverley running my midfield, Gauld on the wing..and the mighty John Guidetti banging them in up top.

Signing a couple of young talented Brazilians to hopefully take over first team duties in midfield and up top. My defence needs a lot of work though, with Huth and Amat being my CB's.

Ah well, we go again!

I had a game where Fellaini and Rafael kept getting sent off and Vidic came up to me and said I should do something about the poor discipline. The next game Fellaini picked up another red so I warned him and he accepted the warning. The game after the same happens with Rafael. Rafael sorts himself out and doesn't pick up as many cards, and avoids suspension for the rest of the season. Fellaini, however, kept picking up loads of bookings and missing games. He'd already missed the league cup final because he picked up a red beforehand, then he managed to get himself sent off in the CL semi against PSG, which ultimately cost us the tie. I warned him again after the red that meant he missed the league cup and he accepted it, then warned him a final time after the CL semi, but because he got sent off after two yellows in the CL he thought I was being unfair and decided he could no longer work with me.

Started a new save in the lowest Portugese league as Felgueiras in National Championship B. Can anyone explain how the league works? I only have 10 teams in the league!
