Gaming Football Manager 2014

Nice, snuck into 11th place with Zaragoza on the final day. I was predicted 18th so I've now got the "untouchable" status and I get full control of my proposed feeder club as the board love me so much.

2-2 in my first match against CSKA Moscow. A lot of the players doubt my ability as it's the first team I've managed, but they'll come round.

How large is your transfer budget, and how much dross can you sell to bump it up? There are some really good players out there for modest fees.

You can usually ship a few of the reserves out for a little extra cash, most clubs have a bit of crap accumulated. Generally if a player is not going to significantly contribute to your season(either as a starter, as depth, or as a high potential player) then they should be out the door.

A player I usually recommend is Gaston Gil Romero. Always turns into a reliable PL midfielder(at the very worst) and can turn into an exceptional midfield general. In my game I got him for 3.8m, but I'm sure people have got him cheaper. As always it depends where your weaknesses are. Try to keep some wage budget free for free transfers - get on them on January 1st.

Finally I've gotten myself a youngster from my academy that looks like he's going somewhere. His stats are not very good, though he's 15 and my coaches rates him 5 stars. I'm going to let him have a go at Giggs' record, giving him a sub appearance in every single game until he's good enough to be a starter :D

I had a 15 year old full back at Swansea like that, decided to use him as 2nd choice to Ben Davies straight away, star player by 17 and not even halfway through growing.

He made his debut one day after he came through as a youth candidate, managed to squeeze 30 mins out of him against Liverpool. Quite a match for a 15 year old midfielder to make his debut in :D

I've picked Swansea.

Nathan Dyer is pretty immense in this, I always end up buying him for my midtable saves.

By the way, you'll probably suck at this as a beginner unless you're using a pre-made tactic, so you might want to start an experimental save with a team like Celtic so you can mess around with tactics and such but you'll still win because everyone else is shit.

Edit: Make that on classic. A lot quicker and a bit more fun.

If I push for a higher wage when signing a new managerial contract does that affect the club's financial position? I know it sounds like a stupid question but unless you're going for a leaderboard high score then it doesn't make sense to have a high wage.

In the big leagues, it's irrelevant, barring personal satisfaction, but in the lower leagues, bigger wages can mean job security as clubs won't be able to afford to fire you.

Bit tricky trying to get the player from PSG. I can manage it for a fee between 55-60m. But I want to get it to 50m or one click below that. Totally awful dealing with them. He's got potential to be one of the best in the world so I understand why they're valuing him so high but he was a backup for them and they're minted.

I Feel like I'm pretty close to being ready for the start of the season. 9 days to go.

Your 5 a side team must be immense.

 I just signed Cleverley on loan, and he's my best midfielder.

What did you do in pre season?!

full intensity fitness runs for three weeks. I've done it before, it leads to a poor start to the season, but the team picks up form after a few games, and from there they'll go on a nice unbeaten sequence. It seems to improve the team's performance in the later stages of the season too, but that might just be me imagining it to be so.

It usually looks better than this 9 days before pre-season though. maybe I forgot something. Down to 41 severely lacking now. All 70 players are happy with the training for some reason.

Edit: I think I may have started the pre-season thing a little bit later than I should have, because I was focused on transfers and forgot about it. Not sure. Losing 0-5 to Velez Sarsfield is certainly not a good sign. Good thing Benfica has such a good reputation of never firing their managers. :p They've had 53 managers in a 100 years from '06 to '06.

How many matches are you playing?

I usually do one every 4 +/- days, starters in for 60mins, then all swapped to 2nd choice. Maybe every couple of games I'll switch and start the 2nd choice, rotating all the starters in after 60 mins.

@Earthquake I usually have games every four days, but because I messed up the start of the pre-season a bit, I didn't get to play the same amount as usual. I'm not too worried though, I'm not unfamiliar with rocky starts. Benfica will pick up form after a few games. So as long as I don't lose them all, I'll be alright.

Edit: Won the Supertaça 4-0 over Rio Ave. Who cares about fitness, my players must be technically gifted.

Yeah. Beat Rio Ave 4-0, so their fitness must be more severely lacking than mine. Looking forward to seeing what comes of Benfica though. Need to break that Béla Guttmann spell. Trying to do it without breaking the record signing fee, which is only at 8m pounds.

Edit: could be that the number of severely lacking in match fitness is because I can't run general training for the B team. I have quite many players in that squad.

Edit: 2-0 over Gil Vicente in the second game. More players are getting fit now too.

Can't get into a game on this atm, had a good one going with Stade Rennais a while back and managed to scrape 4th in my first season but then crash dumps fecked me over. Think I might start as them again as they have a good squad and the youth facilities are brilliant.

edit: feck me they have about 6 left wingers with 4.5* potential, 3 already good enough to be playing week in week out.

I need to take a break from Bradford PA, and do a save with different tactics, but I just can't decide where to go....

I once experimented with this tactic

which resulted in this

Hermann was absolutely outstanding in that system.

 think I might have to try that in a friendly.

Salzburg's a good game if you're bored, it's something different and the league should be relatively easy but Europe will be a challenge as you won't have money rolling in every year. They have a quality squad aswell, always end up raiding them when I'm with other teams, especially for Kampl, Maine & Soriano + some of the youngsters.

Cheers, that's a good shout, and I've already done one of the RB clubs(Leipzig). Shouldn't be too easy to pretty much be rolling in worldies in a season or two either.

I'd love to do a MLS save, but feck their complicated system.

Aye, can never get my head round the MLS, way too much going on.

Still got 2 more left wingers on the bench

I need a simple pre-made tactic to use from the list they provide, for Swansea.
Mostly just to get a few wins, under a possession style. I've been using 4231 deep, any other suggestions?
