Gaming Football Manager 2010

The only thing with FM is that saving so often only encourages you to restart after a really annoying match.

I try to save once a month so I don't get tempted to do this. It's a game destroying thing to do.

^^ This is why FM 10 has not been too much fun. Strikers are insanely good. It's no fun.

To be fair, he's one of the best strikers in the world (4 goals for England on his debut in the World Cup) and he's playing in the Scottish League.

I used to do this quite a lot before, but after I discovered how ridiculously more enjoyable the game was when I didn't do it, I haven't been close to doing it. I have had a bit of bad luck with FM crashing at bad times, usually after spending an hour setting up scouting, or training, or anything. So I do save quite often.

I think there may be a few too many quality Brazilians produced. I scouted the entire U20 side, 18 of which my scout said were "definite purchases"

sakho, if he is good enough.

Veloso can also do a job at CB as a ball-player.

I always scout the entire Brazil and Argentina and Spain under 20's, and Madrid and Barca's youth teams too. Best way to get the best youth!

i won the league, now entering my 3rd season...signed Badstuber for 3million plus Kyle Naughton. trying to sign Breno now!

I've got a strange one going now:

Started out as England manager, took them on a long unbeaten run which included winning the 2010 World Cup... Tried to develop younger English talent like Shevley, Rodwell and Shawcross and it worked to great success.

I then took the team on Euro qualifying, to fantastic success again, but I was offered a job at AC Milan.

I'm not a fan of managing a national team and a club team unless I play in the same country... So I quit the England job to join AC Milan.

I didn't do much research, but it turned out they were 17th with 14 games to go, with a Europa League run and Italian cup run still in effect... The team was in shambles: They blew nearly 35 million on Evra who had a shocking 6.24 average since he'd joined, and alot of aging, ailing players.

Huntelaar and Pato were having good seasons but they didn't get the supply, though Pato ended the year with 30 goals in all competitions, he still didn't have a good match rating: 7.19

Ended up saving Milan from embarassment and got them up to 13th, established a few good young players into the system and maxed out my transfer kitty (The squad will come up)

I decided to take a big risk: Totally revamp the squad and risk another poor season (And maybe my job) to establish the future of the club... It's now January 2013, i'm 4th in the league and trying to still figure out my best formation... I've mixed with 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 with 2 DM, 4-5-1 with 1 DM, and 4-3-3 with 1 DM and 2 AM on the wings.

Nothing has been horribly successful and it's shown in the league, and my lack of goals... I'm 4th but my GD is only +7

Rene Adler (Signed from Leverkusen for 23.5m)
Brad Guzan (Transfer to Udinese on July 1st)
Rod Fanni (Was the starting RB when I joined, not a very good player)
Fillipo Romano (Signed for 20m from Lazio, only 18 but a player with 4 star potential and can play any position in the back 8)
Mike Albertazzi (D LC with good pace and marking ability, only 22 and an Italy regular)
Mamadou Sakho (Signed for 19.75m from PSG but hasn't hit his peak yet)
Oguchi Onyewu (Plays RB more than CB but is still a regular off the bench for me)
Kyriakos Papadopolous (20 year old Greek CB with good potential but shit cuttent ability)
Thiago Silva (Absolutely horrible defender, shocking how bad he plays in my system and he will be sold)
Vincent Kompany (Loaned from City, basically just for insurance)
Patrice Evra (Over-paid and over-rated now, 31 and losing his skill, at 180k a week the past Milan folks have totally balked)
Kwadwo Asamoah (Signed from fellow under-achievers Udinese for 23.5m, currently gets regular time at CM, DM and LM)
Andrea Pirlo (At 33 he still has lots to offer, but is running out of time)
Facando Bertoglio (On his way out)
Yoann Gourcuff (40 Million persuaded him from France, but he's not really hit his stride in his return to Italy)
Nani (Lost his career after a move from United to Villarreal, but is so far my best signing at only 5.5m)
Gabriel Obertan (Bought from United for 4.7m, he's been a good spark off the bench and had a team high 6 assists)
Renato Augusto (Was available after requesting a transfer, a bidding war ended at 14.25m, not really been good for me)
Pato (First half-season was awesome, since he's suffered from fitness issues and poor form)
Rafael Van Der Vaart (For 2.3m it seemed like a steal, but he's not reached his attributes whatsoever, and might be spun for profit)
Sergio Canales (Shocking good on paper, but poor on the pitch, can't decide if I should play him as his adopted striker position, or on midfield... Amazing attributes, but horrible under-performing for 26m)
Klass-Jan Huntelaar (Has been my best player this season but demanded a transfer come January... he's mine until July when he leaves for Juve for 18m)
Romelu Lukaku (For 16m he seems like a steal, hasn't played yet as he joined and picked up a knock, but I hold high hopes for the lad)
Federico Macheda (On loan from United with a 7m future fee, he's scored 1 in 3 and has been a good support striker, contemplating accessing the clause)
Yaya Sanogo (19 year old french striker who has come through the Milan system, good pace off the bench but lacks focus)

The squad seems fantastic but there's no "click" yet... too many moves maybe? I just hope the board gives me the time to build this team to its potential, which I hopefully will achieve and compete for CL places this season.

You might be trying too many formations. Find one you think will work, and stick with it for a while. I've used practically the same one now for probably 10 seasons.

Where do you use Gourcuff? I found he worked excellent as an attacking midfielder. That was in a wing-less formation, though, where he's relied on a lot.

I try to use him in as advance position as I can in every formation, sometimes it's on the wing, most time it's in the middle, making runs and dictating play, but he's not yet hit stride... He's been a monster for france, scoring goals too in bunches, but for me he's just missing that edge that makes him the guy to build around.

Gourcuff is brilliant at long range shots. They go in from just about anywhere.

Just started a new game with Werder Bremen and I'm struggling to find a formation to play. I wanted to do a Roma and play with no striker, but the average age of my attacking midfielders is 20, so I figured that wasn't the best idea.

Sold a load of fringe players and bought in Otamendi (6m), a 6'4 Belarusian CB/DMC/MC named Verkhovstev (450k) and a player proving to be the jewel in my crown- 19 year old Mauro Formica for 1.9mil.

I didn't want to spend all my money on Otamendi or Formica as Werder already have great CB's in Naldo and Mertesacker and a great AM in Ozil. But I was worried about the lack of pace in my backline so had to go for Otamendi, and as I couldn't get a decent player for cheap to play on the left, so I had to move Ozil to the left and bring in Formica to play as the AM. Originally wanted Matias Fernandez to play AM, but Formica looks like he could be the bees knees as was 1/6th of the price.

Currently trying the slightly amended 4-2-0-3-1 formation - changing to 4-1-1-3-1 when necessary.

Ozil(20) -- Formica(20) -- Marin(20)
-------Almeida(25)

Despite being a young forward line should be enough to cause most teams problems I'm hoping. And Otamendi-Mertesacker is looking like a great young partnership at the back. Unfortunately Weise has gone and got himself injured for 6 weeks on the opening day of the season, and my back up keeper is pants so I have lost my opening 3 games. Oh well.

@ Anderson: i signed VDV for my Spurs team for something 2 million, scored 20 goals and had about 15 assists playing behind Defoe. maybe you're playing him wrong?

That's what it's all about, took Stalybridge from conference north to FA Cup glory

I hope you've done it properly. Sadly there are folk operating in this very thread who blatantly aren't! Some achievement if so

What's your league standing? What was your cup run?

Nah I've never cheated, always think I'll bugger the game up using an editor.

Exeter 4-0
Leeds 2-2
6-1
Wolves 5-2
City 1-0 (Flukey as feck)
United 3-3

League Finishes.

1st: Finished 9th (ish)
2nd: Won Blue Square North
3rd: Won Blue Square Prem Playoff
4th: Won League 2
5th: Won League 1 Playoffs
6th: Won the CC playoffs
7th: 13th Prem
8th: 9th in the Premiership + FA Cup

Blue Square North to the Prem with consecutive promotions throughout?

If it's genuine then it's a very strong achievement. You must surely see why folk would question that though. Doesn't say a lot about the quality of the game mind either

Yeah I can see why people would doubt and I was suprised by it myself but I've been taking lower league teams from the bottom to the top (albeit not this fast) on every football/championship manager since about 2001 so I've got a fair bit of experience.

Just to make the doubters even happier, I only spent 67k getting to the premiership.

Took me around 12-15 seasons to win the European Cup with Cork City in FM2009, oh memories.

There are plenty of tricks that make this possible -

The larger the database the more free transfer gems you can find for lower leagues - Having a 65k player database can net you some ridiculously good free signings for conference level...

Expiring/Expired contracts on 30+ year olds... they will have crappy physical states most of the time but superior technique and mental stats will dominate lower leagues.

Offering up/Selling all the deadwood at the end of each seasons and using those funds to buy better players is essential.

Arranging Friendlies using your U18 and Reserve squads with anyone that will accept can net an extra £1,000,000 a year. Arranging League Tournies with United, Arsenal etc pre-season will help with funds to..

So yeah, there is plenty of 'exploits' that can make promotion easier. Really the AI in this game can be quite poor when it comes to transfers... That's why United.. Liverpool... Chelsea etc will more often than not languish in mid table after 10 or so seasons whilst the Premiership title becomes a free for fall!

Like I said earlier... a 'real' lower league game bans the use of Player Search and relies solely on scouts which will make a HUGE difference to the difficulty level of such a challenge.

I would not say he's cheating. FM 10 is really quite easy so it's easily possible.
