You played Aguero as a deep lying forward?:eek::eek:

I found that he works best as a poacher.

He seemed to do well there. I don't know if it was the fact that he had an advanced forward taking attention off him, but he got plenty of goals and assists (c.230 goals in 7 and a bit years, a match against Villa where he scored 6 playing off Dzeko, and several matches with 5 goals.)

Because it's a game.....

And it's one of the only teams in said game that allow you to spend feck loads of money without consequences.

One of the great things about the game (which incidentally I had to throw away because it was getting in the way of my life) is that you get to feel affectionate about teams that you'd hardly ever heard of in real life. For me it's teams like Kaiserslautern and Toulouse who I spent years turning into world beaters before eventually taking on the job at OT, the thing is I could never feel that way about City and Liverpool. Yes of course it's only a game, but it's no fun unless you play it like it's real life.

Definitely. Like I've said before, I became a "sort of" fan of Chester City that way, dating back to CM 97/98. Hell, even before that I liked Cosenza, in CM Italy. Then later, with one of the earlier FM's, Maidenhead United took over that role.

I've also started liking Roma and Sevilla. Strangely, I've been managers of both in both my very long-term "switch clubs if you feel like it" games, first in FM09 and now in FM10.

Never had a keeper score in a game.

Just started a game with Morecambe in League 2. Signed Michael Bridges and a couple of CBs

Asked the board to find me a parent club - they chose United! Unfortunately no-one from United wants to come to me on loan apart from a couple of mediocre youth players

Anyone got any tips on tactics in the lower leagues, or decent affordable players?

But what about those of us that don't hate city?

For instance I see city shirts everyday of my life, I have a few very good friends who are city fans, so how can I hate them? Naturally that changes on matchday but on matchday the game invariably goes untouched so there's no danger there.

I think your Reading too much into this.

Elliot Benyon from Torquay has scored goals for my York team from the Conference all the way through to the Championship. Got Nat Brown as a centre-half and he's been great too. And Jordan Parkes from Watford as a D R/L

Cool. I've started the season badly - lost 4 out of 5 league games, all by narrow margins, and out of the league cup. Hopefully I can rebuild a bit, although there is quite a lot of deadwood in the squad to get rid of. Tried a 4-2-2-1-1, but 4-4-2 seems to do better in the lower leagues, with a direct approach. The youth players are pretty good though: Ajose and Cameron Stewart.

Simon Jordan is my new chairman at United and has given me £150mil to spend after his consotrium bought out the Glazers :D

I started in L1 and got Willy Topp on a free, he got 42 goals. If you can get him then do. David Noble is an attacking mid who is injured for the first few months, you can sign him free after that. So too Rudi Skacel (LM), Oscar Diaz (AM RLC) and Alex (CB). Not sure if they will go so low as L2 though.

Definitely try and loan players in. I had Matty James, Corry Evans and Eikrem do really well for me in my two seasons in L1. In previous games I always tried to loan in a quick young striker like Plummer from Bristol City. They score a ton of goals in low leagues, I think having counter attack on helps too.

Haha nope. At the end of the first season. I didnt really need anyone but it was burning a hole in my pocket, i had 2 £120,000,000.00 bids accepted for Messi and Ronaldo but they both wanted too much money so i signed Fabregas for £80,000,000.00 instead.

Cheers for that. Window is shut so I'll try for some of these next time. I've started to turn a corner results wise and have pulled myself up to 11th. Bridges is banging goals in. I opened Norway and Romanian leagues at the start and have found a couple of obscure players who have been doing well. My squad is probably too big at the moment. Morecambe do have a few good players at the start: Haining (a CB), Drummond, and Phil Jevons are all doing well.

depends what level you play at, but a couple of others i have had success with playing in League 1/2 with Cheltenham are:

Jamie Clarke (blackburn youth striker, often available free or cheap), Richard Offiong (another striker from some scottish club, about 70k i think), Martin Devaney (cant remember where he ends up, but ex-cheltenham and a good playmaker) and Gary Smith (central midfielder) have all been excellent for me at that kind of level. Marc Pugh is another, and im trying for the life of me to remember the name of a good little winger i often used to get in my cheltenham games.

2011/12

Community Shield:
United 2 City 1 - Pato, Pato (Utd), Rafael (City)

Uefa Supercup:
United 2 Fiorentina 0 (Aguero, Pato)

I built a legendary team, like the Sacchi's Milan, very similar team in my opinion, a joy to watch

Lloris
Brown Evans Chiellini Evra
Rooney Fletcher Melo Modric
Aguero Pato

Network game

Alright lads I don't have the experience/mental capacity to organise or host one but I'd love to give it a go, just reinstalled FM2010 after going cold turkey for a few months during my exams but now that's over I've got time on my hands. Anyone have any experience of network games interesting in coordinating a game? I'm sure some of the fanatics on this thread would join in if so.

What a fecking cnut...

I'm Championship now, they're Prem, they had plenty more shots than me but possession wasn't too different, I gave them a bloody good game

FA silent after I had a good fecking whinge in the press conference

I tend to go in a murderous rage when stuff like that happens, last rime for me was against united, I dominated the game but foster kept everything out and berbatov (who hadn't scored in 9 games) scored a 92nd minute winner

Won the Champions League abd the Premier League in my second season. Bored now. Time to try something a bit harder.

Managed to get AFC Telford in the Premiership and survive my first season!

Season 1 - 1st in Conference North (Pretty easy with a few bargain signings)
Season 2 - 1st in Conference (Once again signings can carry you)
Season 3 - 2nd in League 2
Season 4 - Playoffs in League 1 (Lost them)
Season 5 - 2nd in League 1 - (Some big signings carried me but my wage bill was getting hit hard)
Season 6 - 15th in Championship (Tactics failed me - Didn't have the funds to buy the players I needed)
Season 7 - 10th in Championship (Team stagnating a bit)
Season 8 - 4th in Championship (Sold a couple of players and brought in some bargains to win the play-offs)
Season 9 - 15th in Premier League (Put my club £30million in debt but was given a gift loan that I have until 2037 to pay back)

I always find that you can get back to back promotions at lower leagues purely by signing dirt cheap players that are way to good for the league... but it get's hard around the League 1/Championship level were your depth in squad is tested and getting the funds for better players becomes really hard... best advice I can give is sell a couple of your big names and try to bring in bargains. Depth in squad is pretty important to... at one point I had a first team of 11 that were above average Championship quality but my subs were still League 2 standard which is why it took so long to get out that league.

Yeah, that observation is what I've seen as well. Though I haven't always managed to be promoted straight away, so kudos to you. Strangely, in one game, I spent three seasons getting up from Conference North, three seasons getting up from Conference, a couple of seasons getting up from League 2, and then a season each for League 1 and Championship. I have no idea how I made that happen.

I don't know. I just think the problem is that it's too easy to get better players than the level. Particularly for me, who's Norwegian. I can get quite a few shite Norwegian players, who are simply less shite than the other players playing at that level.

Yeah.. The free signings you can find at lower levels can carry your whole squad.. I had one striker called Pablo Islas who got 48 goals in 38 appearences and was strong enough to stay in my squad from Conference South up to League 1.

If you add large player databases it get's even easier... It's kind of an exploitation really... a true lower league manager should avoid the player search option and rely solely on scouts or his own knowledge... it's a great challenge but I've never been able to stick with it.

Also attribute masking can add another degree of realism.
