Gaming Football Manager 2009

Hmm

Unbeaten in my final 9 games of the season, but four draws left us just shy of the play-offs, going to be a long hard season for Birmingham.

No money to spend on players, and already over the wage budget

Am having to sell some players, best bit of business looks to be selling Daniel Fernandes (GK) who I bought for £3.5m for £7.5m to Porto, United and AC Milan are interested, so hoping to get them to bit a bit higher. And am selling some high-earners, in the hope I can pick up some players on a free

EDIT
I have sold 3 players for a combined ~£11m, yet they've only added £1.8m to my transfer fund, any ideas

My only advise is to play for the long term. Try to replace the high-earners with people who are almost as good yet costs you a lot less. Also, wheel and deal, like it looks like you are doing already.

Yup, that's what I'm doing, trying to get players in who are as good for little money and for as little wages

One of the transfers had £5m of it in instalments (24months) would this make any difference to when I receive the funds?

Yeah, pretty sure it affects what you get into the transfer budget. When I sold Berbatov for £40 million over 24 months, I got far from all of it into the budget at once.

Ah tits I've just lost the league on the last day of the season. Pictures tell a thousand words so here is what happened...

leaguejgu.jpg

My last game. All i had to do was beat Athletic and I would have won the league by two points. And it was all going so well until the 73rd minute.

Honestly thought when I did Barca 3-2 at Nou Camp in the penultimate game of the season I had won the league. To really rub salt in the wounds though, here is a screen shot from Barcelonas last game. If they had drawn I would still have been crowned champions. But no, they went and won the league with a cocking own goal. feck sakes.

league3.jpg

Oh oh.. I just drew West-Brom away, after winning 12 league games in a row. I'm afraid this might open the floodgates. It's mid January, and I've got 7 points on Chelsea, but I think this was my "good form" part of the season.

Here's an update on my unemployed game. I set my past experience as International Footballer (so i could get a semi decent job and not have to do non league from the off). I loaded English, Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch & Swedish leagues.

I sent my application in for the vacant Roda JC position (Dutch team). I sold almost my entire team except my two centrebacks for about 13.75 mil. And i bought in 20 players for about £8mil. Got alot of freebies like Sefo Soley, Kallon, Abreu and a few other freebies.

I tried to buy Dutch players when i could. I found this dutch striker who i've never seen before (i assume it's because i loaded the Dutch league) he's called Jack Tuyp and his finishing is 18 and heading is 16. And has decent allround stats. I managed to pinch him for £1.1mil and he's looking decent at the moment (only played a few games) he scored a goal against Feyenoord on his debut.

I also bought in Mame Biram Diouf who's looking decent whenever he plays.

Got Sander Westerveld in on a free and another free dutch keeper. Dwight Tiendelli, Rob Wiertlaer, Beevers, Van der haag where some of the other dutch people i got in. (Probably spelt all their names wrong, i'm writing this from memory).

My surprise star so far has been this dude i bought for around 200k he's an Italian striker called Mastronunzio (think you have to have Italy leagues loaded to see him). His finishing and Heading are both 19, all his other stats are average mind.

I've played four games and i'm doing fairly alright. First game i lost 2-1 against Feyenoord. Then i raped Heereeven 4-1 with a 30min hattrick from my sub Mastronunzio. Then beat some league 2 dutch team 1-0 in the Dutch cup, Mastronunzio again. And i drew with someone last night 1-1 in the league (think it was Vitesse).

Currently six. My aim is to win the league. The media predicts i'll come 9th so this might be a hard task. If i did win the league it would have to come down to alot of luck. But i'll remain optimistic.

I just looked him up in my game Diver.

He's been fair shite for Volendam. 12 goals in 59 appearances (counting 08/09 and half of 09/10)

He's now worth 2,800,000 euros mind

Hmm interesting. So far he's doing a job for me. But for £1.1mil i'm not going to be complaining much even if he is shit on a stick.

I'd like to think my managering expertise will get the best out of him aswell :D

I just do a youtube search for him and watched a video and some guys comment from 6months ago said he was a beast on FM09 so there's some more hope :D

Well, for Roda he could well do a job.

In the 07/08 season, he scores 26 from 35, so the talent is there, probably the right tictacs would get the best out of him.

I just looked up his PA/Potential stats on GenieScout, which was interesting. I'm not going to spoil it for you (Unless you want me to post his vital stats)

Try and buy Cerezo Fung a Wing, just because his name sounds cool

I also bought in Mame Biram Diouf who's looking decent whenever he plays.

So it's not just me who looks at players United have signed or been linked with recently

Obertan was sold to AC Milan for ~£30m in the game I'm on

Need a defender?

Try Vegard Forren from Molde

Everton from Flamengo is an AMC/L and is an assist machine. I tried to get him for my sporting team on a free, but no luck.

Right, my first season as Fiorentina manager is over, and I used that updated database that was linked to.

Here's my transfers:

transfers0809.jpg

Pretty happy with them, Santon and De Cegile are developing into very good full backs. Getting Gago on loan for the season at £1.2m was a bargain, and I've an option to buy him fully for 6m but he's been refusing so far. Got Bojan in January for very cheap and we all know he good that lad gets. I've also got Obertan joining me at the end of the season for £6m.

I haven't used £15m of my budget so hopefully that'll carry to next season, my first plan is to get some really good scouts as the current system is poor, and hopefully a good Assistant Manager too, my current one is rubbish. I upgraded my training coaches at the start but they're still not perfect so I'll be sorting that out too.

Anyway, came 2nd in the league:

league0708.jpg

Despite gaining 91 points I could never catch Inter, they're absolutely insane in the game, they won the CL too, which I got to the semis off and was trounced by Athletico Madrid. I beat R. Madrid on a 7 - 1 aggregate in the quarters though which was great.

mutu0708.jpg

My star player for the season with his 38 goals, I pretty much modelled my team around him from the start and it paid off. Gilardinho on the other hand was fairly shit, a number of clubs are after him so I might flog him off for a high price.

Hopefully a big budget for next season and I've lots of players with huge potential such as Montolivo, Jovetic and Kuzmanovic so I should have a much better team!

So it's not just me who looks at players United have signed or been linked with recently

Obertan was sold to AC Milan for ~£30m in the game I'm on

Yeah, I got Douglas Costa in mine, he's a bit of alright.

If you still need a cheap dutch striker, see if you can get Jack Tuyp on your game. Cost me £1.1mil and he's looking decent.

One issue is that he's a bit slow. But all his other stats are there and he's only 24.

Yeah tried but he wouldn't come to FC Eindhoven and I'm 12k over my wage budget.

Spams, try Razvan Cocis

Pretty young (although I don't know what season you're in)

Looks like a dumbed down version of Inzaghi, his anticipation and off the ball stats are pretty good.

interesting, on my inter game fiorentina are amazing, kept me on my toes until the weekend before the finish, and then i only began to break away after a 120 minute game against them in the cup, i had a much bigger squad due to getting bought out in november by an uber rich brazilian, so they were all knackered where i was chopping and changing.

other than that i beat chelsea in the champs league final, got 180 million transfer budget, spent most of my money so far on kids, oh and messi for 35 million after he fell out with guardiola  oh yes, and the best scouts that were interested in joining, and they are scouting literaly the entire globe due to how many i'm allowed, still have 135 million left mind

fiorentina in a bid to catch up with me are signing the players that i am ready to sell due to emerging youngsters, balotelli somehow managed to get no awards despite winning golden boot by 5 goals, to zlatan, who was 5 in front of del piero, he also had the highest average rating in the league aswell, which confuses me as to how he isn't even the best youngster in the league.

my youth team broke 100 points and had been crowned in march, john fleck there star player.

I bought Balotelli for City, been outshone by Douglas Costa thus far though.

I alway look at United players and people we've been linked with. The database is usually fairly close to what the player is like in real life.

Diouf is alright, he's got good potential to be a star apparently. At the moment he's decent, does a job.

Played a few games earlier and he's my second top scorer now (played 9 games he's got 4 goals) But the goals he has scored have all been against the big Dutch sides; Feyenoord, Ajax, PSV.

I don't think he's got great potential at all, but for £1.1mil i think he'll prove good value for money.

My goal is to hopefully win the Eredivisie this season (will be a struggle) and get a job elsewhere. But i wouldn't cry if i had to do another season here. One thing about the Dutch league (on my game) is the standard of footy is shocking. Literally nearly all my games end at half time with "surely things will only get better in the second half". Even though i've had some exciting matches.

I've played 9 games and i'm 5th. Need to improve a bit if i'm to win the league.

Some of my better players so far:
Mastronunzio (£225k)
Jack Tuyp (£1.1mil)
Jiri Jarosik (got him for about 700k)
Eduardo Costa (free)
Sefo Soley (free)
Sander Westerveld (free)
Pa Modou Kah (already at club)
Jan-Paul Saeijs (already at club)
Dwight Tiendalli (£1mil)

All of these players are recommended for the dutch league ^^^ / lower leagues.

I've just secured deals for Juan Pablo Angel (end of contract free), Rivaldo (500k) and Bayal Sall (Freebie dmf from Senegal). I'm also looking out for a good cheap left winger as my dude i have, even though he plays well is rated as shit.

Oh yeah i looked at my transfer history and what i said earlier was wrong I sold 15 players for £17.5mil and bought 20 players in for £11.5mil (will be 23 players for £12mil).

Diouf is alright, he's got good potential to be a star apparently. At the moment he's decent, does a job.

Just signed him for Brum, allowed me to bank £1m net from the player I sold, and save about 10k on wages. But I have a big problem, he's made of Louis Saha. Just can't stop getting injured, I like the fact he can play AMR, AML, MR, ML as well, that versatility is very handy

Sometimes I can't stand this game. I just lost to Barcelona in the CL Semi Finals, after beating them 2-0 at home. I was doing alright away, though they took an early lead. Then Iniesta got his second yellow (they got a lot of yellows), and I thought it was it. Then Messi scored in the 87th minute. Then they took the overall lead in extra time, before Nani equalized in the 101st minute, with me looking to advance on away goals. Then right from kick-off to the second extra half, Aguero dallied with the ball, got robbed, and Eto'o scored.

It's absolutely unbelievable to me, considering how many sitters my players missed in this game. I'm going to go hang myself. That I won the league comfortably is not a very big comfort right now. Maybe it's just as well, considering I'd meet Arsenal in the final. My record against them is 1 win, 3 draws and 4 losses. I do very well against the other top teams, Liverpool in particular, but for the last 3-4 FM's at least I've never been able to deal with Arsenal. That said, the goal difference head to head is 9-12, which suggests it might be more about margins than anything.

Still, Barcelona. Cnuts.

The season just ended, and it was a massive improvement on the last season (despite the disappointment of again losing in the Semi's of the Champions League). My final tally could (and should) have been better, but I somehow managed to lose 1-3 to West-Ham at Old Trafford in the second to last game, and my players looked completely disinterested in the last, pointless game against Wolves (which was after I lost the Champions League semi).

Arsenal are nuts in the game, they've loads of money and their youth players are, as ever, ridiculously over rated. The likes of Ramsey, Walcott, Vela, Denilson all have massive PAs, and they usually sign Obertan, Yourcruff etc as well. They were always my main problem in my Man Utd game. One season I had 102 points and Arsenal were right behind me on 100.

Started the new season with Fiorentina, sold Gilardinho for 20m, which is great. Solid Montolivo for 21m to Barca, didn't really want to but the offer was just too good and Kuzmanovic is a better CM for me. Overall I've sold about 50m worth of players and I've brought in 75m, namely Lorik Cana (10m), Eduardo (20m), Sakho (20m), Obertan (6m), Guardado (14m), and a load of youth players my new and improved scouting team has recommended.

Five games gone, five games won, with no goals conceded. I love Sebastian Frey.

The crazy thing is, they've been massively nerfed in 9.0.3, which is what I'm using. I know I've said it before, but it's so crazy it's worth saying again: In a big simulation game I ran where I had people make themselves into players, and then I ran it and gave them updates, Arsenal won something like 10 league titles in a row. Several seasons they won literally everything they could. It's not a perfect 'experiment' considering some of the players (who had 200 potential) were in Arsenal at various points, but not any more than United or Barcelona.

It's an amusing story, actually. One of the guys who was a part of this is a massive Arsenal fan, but he forgot to United down as a 'disliked club'. Sure enough, early in his career he went to United, and by the end of the game he was a United legend, having been captain for many of the years and having the all-time record in appearances.

We made fun.

That forum is all but dead, but I might want to do one of those experiments over here, if people are interested in it. It's not "playing" per se, of course, but they seemed to find it fun to follow, and I definitely found it fun to write. I might have to impose a "no favourite clubs" rule, though, considering which forum this is...

I just won the Bundesliga with Ingolstadt for my fifth consecutive season, won the CL for my second time, also back to back.

This was probably my most successful season ever in any FM and I am honestly wondering where do I go from here, I'd be shocked if I could top it.

My league record was 31-3-0, I finished on 92 points. I lost 2 games all season. One to Bayern Leverkusen in the quarter final of the German Cup, and one in the CL first knock out stage to Barcelona away from home.

I conceded 9 goals in the league, scored 70 some odd. I conceded 13 in all competitions.

I've seriously considered leaving that team behind to see how it does without me as I would like to take over FC United in the BSN. Problem is FC is never hiring. I've quit a couple times on a backup save to see who Ingolstadt hire to replace me. Both times it was Roy Keane, and he left United :)

Tactically I am playing without strikers, well without strikers in striker positions. I am playing with three AMC's, two MC's, one DM, two WB's and two CB's.

My season just got a lot more interesting. This actually happened in my last United-game as well. He just got a new contract, and for some reason he had that ridiculously low buy-out clause.

messie.jpg

Of course, this seriously messes with my plans, and really my whole tactic. I'm going to have to try to do a very offensive 4-4-2. But to do that I really need to sign a central midfielder or two, since I just sold Carrick to be able to afford Messi. This also means Saivet, who I bought last season, has no future here. I'll only play with 2 strikers now, as opposed to 2 strikers and an AM, and I've already got Rooney, Vagner Love, Marquinhos and Aguero. I think I might have to shop for another proper DM. That could work.

i need to find a way to fit him into my inter, i got him cheaper than that though and he was desperate to sign, him ribery and ashley young cant all play at once, and with zlatan and balotelli phenominal up top and hamsik and palombo are ridiculously good in centre mid

Seems like we have the same problems. I would try out something along the lines of what Barcelona are playing (alternatively with an AM instead of a DM), but with 4 truly top class strikers I simply can't. I already forsee some problems giving them all enough games, though I might convert Marquinhos into a proper winger. He's got the stats for it.

In my case Messi wasn't desperate to sign for me. He wasn't interested, so I offered him max wages, max bonuses and max sign-on fee. I was the one who was desperate, which is why I didn't really think about it when I sold Carrick to be able to afford him.
