Gaming Football Manager 2009

The crazy thing is, they've been massively nerfed in 9.0.3, which is what I'm using. I know I've said it before, but it's so crazy it's worth saying again: In a big simulation game I ran where I had people make themselves into players, and then I ran it and gave them updates, Arsenal won something like 10 league titles in a row. Several seasons they won literally everything they could. It's not a perfect 'experiment' considering some of the players (who had 200 potential) were in Arsenal at various points, but not any more than United or Barcelona.

It's an amusing story, actually. One of the guys who was a part of this is a massive Arsenal fan, but he forgot to United down as a 'disliked club'. Sure enough, early in his career he went to United, and by the end of the game he was a United legend, having been captain for many of the years and having the all-time record in appearances.

We made fun.

That forum is all but dead, but I might want to do one of those experiments over here, if people are interested in it. It's not "playing" per se, of course, but they seemed to find it fun to follow, and I definitely found it fun to write. I might have to impose a "no favourite clubs" rule, though, considering which forum this is...

Sounds good niMic. Reckon there'd be a fair bit of interest on here.

Seems like we have the same problems. I would try out something along the lines of what Barcelona are playing (alternatively with an AM instead of a DM), but with 4 truly top class strikers I simply can't. I already forsee some problems giving them all enough games, though I might convert Marquinhos into a proper winger. He's got the stats for it.

In my case Messi wasn't desperate to sign for me. He wasn't interested, so I offered him max wages, max bonuses and max sign-on fee. I was the one who was desperate, which is why I didn't really think about it when I sold Carrick to be able to afford him.

i'm playing marquinhos (who i have this thread to thank for finding!) as a winger, he is very messi-esque in his stle, i can see him being better though

messi was desperate to sign because AC bought millito and he wasn't happy so guardiola told him to live with it or feck off, so he did, to me :D

i have decent strikers, balotelli zlatan santa cruz and acquafresca, aswell as many top kids thanks to my new super rich owners who love me and got top youth facilities and let me get 20 top scouts aswell, riber might be sold at the end of the season to give young more games, since he is a much more natural winger.

I just wish that "super rich tycoon buyout" would happen to me some day.. Though, I guess in my long-term game where I'm currently at Roma, there's something going on there. They're pretty rich, anyway, but it's no sugar daddy, like it seems you've got. Lucky bastard :(

 it was annoying at first, when they were trying o buy for 3 days on it the headlines were

"mystery foreign tycoon after inter"
"inter tycoon interest cools"
"inter takeover back on track"
"Inter tycoon interest cools"

nothing for a few weeks

"inter buyout complete", heres 100 mill to spend in january

i have pretty much made all the signings i want and still have 135 million to spend in the summer, i have only really spent money on messi at 35 the rest are all under 10, most under 1, i am trying to get the best kids and a tycoon puts some more pressure to get results, however he does love me so i'm good for now :D

I'm not sure if i should be worried but with my Roda JC team the media always say "Penniless Roda Jc", and they emphasise this like the team is going to go bankrupt. (Even though my balance is in the +).

Has anyone gone bankrupt? and if so what happens? (or anyone that knows)

i did a few years ago, i got sacked and a 10 point deduction, i did ruin perfect finances though

Ok.

So I'm FC Eindhoven, tipped for relegation, with a completely new squad I managed to get myself in a position that I had 1 game left and I needed a draw to win the league.

Then, I get an offer from Empoli with £16.5m budget (more than the entire club of eindhoven is worth by far). So I look and Empoli have been relegated, in 20th with 1 game to go. So I start buying players, here are the players I've bought so far to join me in my Serie B crusade:

Kerlon - 275k
Miles Addison - £1m
Leonardo Bonucci - £1m
Matteo Contini - 300k
Robin van Persie - £3.4m

That's an absolute steal on the game. What year are you in?

I like the idea of a rich owner taking over my random Dutch team.

I assume this is purely random when this happens? Can this happen to ANY team or just the bigguns?

It can happen to anyone. I play with the Norwegian leagues on 'view only', and at one point I happened to glance over at the news and see some no-mark 2nd Division (3rd Tier, properly poor level of play) club having the biggest buys of the transfer window. That is, they were (and are in reality) a no-mark club. They'd been bought, and obviously had a proper sugar daddy (not every buyout by far will be that. Most seem to be people on the club board taking over). Their biggest purchase was in the £4 million range, which is high for the Norwegian league, and very high considering the club in question.

Moral of the story: it can happen to anyone.

Okay, not anyone. There's a file that specifies some nations where certain take-overs aren't possible. It's editable, but I'm assuming you got the default one.

Here's what it says that is particularly relevant:

## No Rich Individual Takeovers
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Germany"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Portugal"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Switzerland"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Finland"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Denmark"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Sweden"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "China PR"
"NO_RICH_INDIVIDUAL_TAKEOVER" "Brazil"

## No Consortium Takeovers
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Germany"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Portugal"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Switzerland"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Finland"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Denmark"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "China PR"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Belgium"
"NO_CONSORTIUM_TAKEOVER" "Brazil"

So you should be fine in Holland. You have to get super lucky though :p

i would be interested in your experiment, nimic. ive tried creating myself as a player a few times but for some reason, the stats always seem to botch up and default to "1" in everything, except a few 4's here and there, which is annoying.

also, im still looking for a striker who can do a job for Dortmund in the first season (08/09) for 800k or less. I even used GenieScout for it, but couldnt find anyone suitable. My players are around the 120-140 CA mark, i did find one decent guy, but Celtic bid £1.5m for him and i couldnt beat that.

AFC Wimbledon are now in League 1! Not enough fans to make it much further, wage restrictions are unreal, 28K a year? Very testing challenge this one. Anyone know of any clubs that continue to grow in size as per your league progress???

Don't all clubs continue to grow in size, just at varying speeds? I've taken Maidenhead United into the Premiership, and they did build me a 20k stadium when I got the last promotion. I was hardly big for any of the levels, but I did manage to lure some good players, so presumably I had decent wage restrictions. 28k sounds very low, and would be hard.

here are my summer signings, note that it isn't even half my money and i still have well over 100 mil left

I've started terribly in the league this season. 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss (away to Chelsea). Thing is, I've had a million chances in all those games, so I think I might just be unlucky. I can't get Messi to work properly, though. The last two seasons with Barcelona he scored 22 and 23 goals. I'm playing him in the same position, but I just don't see how to do it. I think I'm going to try to play him and Ronaldo both on free role, and see where that gets me.

My transfers:

Lopez is my Evra-replacement, Sandoval is a striker wonderkid, Juvenal is the new Veloso, Galante is going to be the Italian Ronaldo and Da Silva is going to be the new Portuguese Ronaldo.

Its such a pain, Same thing happened with Cambridge Utd. I wonder is there a rule in the game that if you do get one of these smaller teams into the premiership that they have to build say a 20K stadium.

I'm thinking I made a good choice in making this a season where it's more about gelling my team (and teaching Messi English) than winning the league. I wouldn't win the league anyway. I think you all know why. Yep, the Arsenal kids are growing up. They have 6-0-0 so far and 19-1 in goal difference. They just beat Fulham 8-0.

So only uae and Walrus interested in my simulation thingy? There'd need to be at least 4-5 (plus me) for me to bother doing the whole thing. Though there's an upper limit too, somewhere, but we'll take that as it approaches :p

Had a great December with Birmingham, won 6 from 7, drawing the other game. January wasn't as good, but did draw with Leeds (who with Delph) are the best team in the division.

Am still in the FA Cup, 4th Rd replay, might play some youngsters, as I'm joint top with Leeds, 5 points clear of Sunderland in 3rd. And hopefully I'll be a Premier League manager next season (2013/14).

What is a good time to be reaching the Premier League when you start off as unemployed with no reputation. I'm probably not that quick, as I had 6 months between leaving Norwich and getting the Birmingham job

i'd be in

I would be

Excellent!

A few more and I'll start working further on how to do it this time. The idea would be that we start as youngsters (15-16) in random clubs at a certain level in either England, Spain or Italy (different clubs, that is). We'll all have 200 potential ability and somewhere around 100 current ability. Not sure what to do with 'favourite clubs' since we'd all just end up at United. Perhaps do one completely void of favourite or disliked clubs? We would, of course, run the risk of ending up at Liverpool or Manchester City.. :p

I'll set some stats that are the same for all of us (stuff like ambition and professionalism, and maybe determination), and let you customize the rest to some degree or other (need to work out the details).

I'm such a geek.

Just lost Mario Botelli guy for 40 mill, need a replacement, any idea? an i can only buy only eu players

you could see how Huntelaar is doing. Otherwise, try a punt on Saivet or Vela or Bojan if they have suitably developed thus far in your game.

other than them, there are surprisingly few good options around.

I'd be interested.

I did this a couple of years ago - here https://www.redcafe.net/f8/redcafe-united-fm-official-thread-157460/ Created a whole redcafe team, it's hard work though!
