Gaming Football Manager 2009

I started another United-game (been a long time since the last one), and it's going well, though there have been one or two issues. Here's my transfers for the first season. I realize I sold Fletcher way under what I probably could have, but no one would take him for any more, and I desperately needed the money for the already agreed Srna signing.

Oh, yes, and I sold Tevez. The first thing I did was give Tevez a new contract. The second thing I did was sell him.

My season started decently enough, and the highlight in the first few games was beating Liverpool away. The next game was Arsenal. Between those games, Van der Sar, Ronaldo, Vagner Love, Carrick, Anderson and Ferdinand all got injured. Hargreaves and Veloso were already injured. Oh, and yes, Veloso got one game after I signed him before being injured for 7-8 months. Having already sold Fletcher, I think you can see where this is going. I took the lead, but eventually lost 2-1. At home. :(

I'm still only a couple of points behind Arsenal and Tottenham, and Tottenham will obviously fall off, and Arsenal usually does too post-patch. The problem? Chelsea. After 8 games, they have played 7-1-0, with a goal-difference of 19-0. They just beat Liverpool 4-0.

I'll actually be content with not winning the league this year, if I win something else, considering the massive injury problems I've had. The board might not be, though.

Edit: Scholes just got injured to a two-footed Boateng tackle. My midfield now consists of Gibson and Possebon.

Edit Edit: Rooney got at the end of the same match.

You've done fecking well with the transfers there.

Out of interest United won the League in my game, beating Arsenal on goal difference. Though Arsenal beat United in the CL Final.

:D

Thanks, I think I did fairly well, yeah :D

It's common knowledge that Vagner Love and Srna are superstars on FM09 (and indeed I stole them both from City). Marquinhos has been a bit of a superstar on lesser teams in other games for me, but I think he might be able to do the job for United too. I'm really happy about getting Santon, though. I always knew he could be a great player, but it was only in my recent game that went to 2020+ that I realized how good. I'll also try to get Mazzarani and Sakho for the same reason.. :p

I also think I might have gotten lucky with Welbeck. I'm pretty sure he's a -9, and I think he might have hit the very upper limits of that in my game, as in close to 180 potential. Tosic is also looking like a great player already. And unlike my other United-games on FM09, Rooney doesn't score much, and Berbatov does :wenger:

Yeah Rooney was average for my mates' side, he ended up fobbing him off to Arsenal of all clubs. Tevez was a superstar on a side note, he bought Aguero and they struck up a huge partnership.

Tevez and Aguero worked wonders for me. On an even stranger side note, anyone fancy playing a network game? Bored shitless...

After winning the Champions League with City in a dramatic 3 -2 win over Arsenal I resigned for a new challenge. Juventus came in for me around January 2012 and I took over as Manager. Bought Cristiano Ronaldo in the window along with a few wingers and youth prospects. My job is to take from where they were (7th) back up near the top. Am currently 3rd, 4 points behind AC Milan in March.

Somehow, and I don't quite know how, I won Serie A. I was 3 points behind AC Milan with 3 games left, and I was playing them in the penultimate one. So I thought if I beat them I'll basically win it. However they drew their game before that, which helped. I beat AC anyway and won it, after taking charge in late December while they were 7th :D I won the Italian FA Cup equivalent thingy and then beat Arsenal 2 - 1 in the UEFA Cup Final.

Just signed Rooney in the transfer window along with a 19 year old Russian striker regen with 19 composure and finishing for £14m.

My team (from memory) is:

Buffon
Boateng Milito Crisoto Barzalasomething
Ronaldo Inler Sissoko Marquinhos
Amauri Rooney

Looking for a decent midfielder but I can't get anyone. I have £66m left in my budget. Trying to get Fabregas but Arse won't accept an offer.

I sold Tevez and Berbatov in my game, and both turned out fantastic for Madrid and Chelsea respectively - Tevez even won player of the year at one point.

As for Rooney, he is inconsistent. Sometimes he has spells of absolute brilliance, but then will not score for 5+ games. Its a bit frustrating.

Solius, try Kuzmanovic, Zapater, Aquilani, Camacho, Rodwell, Fellaini, Defour...
They are some decent midfielders of varying ages, other than that there are the bigger names like Veloso, De Rossi, Fabregas, Essien etc.

I tried for Aquilani, Fabregas and Essien, despite mammoth offers they still wouldn't sell. De Rossi is at City who are still world beaters thanks to me so he won't be leaving. It is also 2012 in my game so I'm not sure how players like Rodwell and the like have developed.

Right time for the Sharky update for my Southend game (on FM2008 but it's the same concept)

Started in 07/08 with the goal of getting promoted. Signed no one in the summer window, and brought in George O Callaghan and Alex Fernandez in the winter window - finished 7th and missed out on promotion.

The following season I brought in Brazilian CAM Choco, who turned into my star player with 25 goals and 20 assists from the top of a midfield diamond formation as I romped League 1 and came first. Automatic promotion.

At the outset of 10/11 Fernandez fecked off on a free, so I brought in Simon Hebras for in hindsight an exorbitant fee of 500k. I languished mid table for most of the season before plummeting to 17th towards the end.

I'm currently in season 11/12. I've got a good group of CBs - I bought Dean Leacock and Jay Demerit, and I was really chuffed to get Lolo (of Seville!) on a free, as well as Alex Bruce (who had his asking price set to nothing by Ipswich oddly enough). I also picked up Robert Bayly on a free and he's been fantastic in the geart of my midfield. A wing combination of Fabrice Fiorese and Anthony McNamee (both free) works pretty well. Unfortunately the board are being Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime and won't give me any transfer fees, and Choco and Leacock are whining all the time about moving to a better club.

I'm 15th in the Championship in February 2012. Which I find respectable seeing as I've spent roughly 500 000 in transfers in two years (and that's gross - although in fairness the only players I've sold have all been for nominal fees)

Question, I want to start off with United, but obviously -Ronnie and Tevez + Valencia..

Is it possible for that to happen? Do editors for the game exist? I've got version 9.2?

First of all, you should definintely patch it to 9.0.3. I'm fairly sure there aren't any game-breaking bugs in 9.0.2, but with FM it's always best to patch. Secondly, yes! The folders name is 'tools' or something like that, and there you can find the game editor. Just load the latest database (9.0.2 for you, 9.0.3 if you patch again), transfer the players, maybe add/subtract from United's balance, and save your game under whatever name you want. When you go to start the new game, just pick your new database from the list.

Thanks a lot, not done any of the stuff you mentioned yet but about to..

However, about the upgrading the patch..erm, I'm just a little worried to do that cause ummm..lol..err..let's just say I might not have the original game ...and I'm worried if I patch it up to 9.0.3, the exe file might not work and I might not ever be able to play FM again?

Yeah, if you patched a cracked game it probably wouldn't work anymore. 9.0.2 is probably fine, but if you want to patch you can look for another crack. Gamecopyworld.com, perhaps. Or Thepiratebay.

The only thing that won't work is your savegame... you'll have to start a new game. There had been DRM/activation problems in the first and second patch IIRC, but the third patch isn't as bad. If it fails you can just delete and reinstall the game anyways.

Also I would suggest downloading a user updated database for a more authentic game. You can find them in the SI forum here:

http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25

And this is the one i'm using right now, made and kept up to date by a sound lad:

Updated DB's are put out on the SI boards by individuals with time on their hands or by groups who set out to give a quality product. They come out every so often (because shit happens).

That author of that particular db may keep releasing db's up until the end of the transfer window. I'm going to wait till then because it'd kill my internet if I was downloading 80mb files with any regularity.

Doh!

Bayern wanted Nani, so they offered some low sum for him. So I asked for Ribery in return, and they took it. And Ribery rejected my contract, just. And when I try to buy Ribery by handing Nani in return (the exact same deal), they want £40 mill + Nani. I almost had Ribery! >.<

FM works in mysterious ways.

Im still well chuffed that I signed Vela and Bojan for a combined total of less than £10m (Bojan cost £1.4m with a PA of 199, 3 years on and his CA is 197 and BPitW)

How'd you manage that?

I think my best bit of business is 8 mil for Hazard

For once i'm actually playing a game as United realistically (realistic enough anyways) as opposed to just spending silly amounts on the best players in the game. I'm coming towards the end of my second season, and i already have a lot of promising youth knocking on the door of the first team. Welbeck is nearly starting every game at the moment.

That's my team for anyone that's interested. Henry wass brought in for around £4mil in January after my signing of Agbonlahor in the summer was a massive let down, and is already doing enough to justify the purchase. I've avoiding going for the usual wonderkids and what not, as i know the game too well now.

Buffon, Ribery and Azpillicueta cost around £80 million (i spent nothing first season, so it was basically the Ronaldo money) between them in the summer. I got the same amount in return from the sales of Berbatov, Owen, Valencia and Tosic (Berbatov for £30million! The other 3 i didn't want to sell, but i had offers around £20 mil each for Tosic and Valencia.) I also have a regen in my youth squad who my coaches reckon is gonna be the dogs bollocks.

How in the sweet feck did you do that !?

Bojan is up to 20 Million in my game after 2 years.

Bostock is fecking brilliant in my game now

It's strange. In all my previous FM games, he's never been all that good really (I know player potential varies, but there's always some sort of consistancy in terms of a player being good or bad.) In my first season my scouts were going nuts about him in this game, i signed him up, and he's starting to show why with his odd appearance now and again. Him and my regen, as well as Spanish youngster coming in touted as the next Xavi apparently, will probably force me to cash in on Anderson and maybe even Hargreaves.

It's 5:00am (as I type this), I have University in 5 hours time, then work immediately after, then football training immediately after that. Yet I'm still up. Playing.

This game is taking over my life.

But on a more positive note my Genoa's going great guns ATM, we've started off the season with aplomb, winning every single game so far (about half a dozen League games in, and had 5 Uefa games so far).

I've had a tremendous run of luck and form, which will hopefully put me far enough ahead so when my 'slump' comes I'll have a big enough buffer to fight the season out. For example: I thrashed Valencia 3-0, mustering a massive 6 shots (in total) to their 18.

Matias Fernandez has been amazing so far, as he's scored near a goal a game from (Attacking) Midfield. And at 4.5 million (replacing an older player that I sold for 10 million, which I bought out the other half of his rights for 2 million at the begining) he's been brilliant value.

Akinfeev's been incredible, and Marquinhos has destroyed all my Uefa opponents so far. Successful signings!

Go to sleep, you silly twat.

Oh, and well done.

Sleep? Sleep is for losers, and Cesc is clearly a winner. Keep at it by dingo mate. Put another shrimp on the barbie. Kangaroo.

A bit off topic, but my addictiveness rating on FM2007 is now "I am a Football Manager expert". Get in!

Cesc, you have inspired me to try a more challenging game than my normal beats. I fancy trying some minnows in a fairly weak league...hmm, perhaps a german team.

So I lose 3-1 away to Roma in the first leg of the CL Quarter-Final. This isn't quite real-life proportions, but I quite fancied it  (in the first knockout-leg I beat Juventus 3-0 at home after losing 2-0 away)

Vagner love is an absolute beast in the game.

my played on FM is probably under 14 days.

On World of Warcraft though, I reckon im on nearly a year of total playtime.

Yeah, but that's FM08. Mine is FM09. Give me another year :D

My game is going.. well, not great, but considering the start I had (including half my first team out), I'm content. The league is lost, and right now I'm in a fight for 2nd, 3rd or 4th (that is, I will get one of those, Liverpool is way behind at 5th). I lost the FA Cup semi to Arsenal on penalties, and I just played 1-1 away to them in the CL Semi. Which, considering I made it through the last two legs after losing the away games by two goals, is promising. Not a great season, but if I win the CL I'll be happy. Even if I don't I know I'm going to be much better next year, unless all my players get injured again..
