Gaming Football Manager 2009

Can anybody recommend a good left winger ? I'm Sunderland in the second season; Di Maria doesn't want to come and Calderon won't get a work permit. My squad:

I've been gripped by the addiction, somebody help :(

He's horrible, I usually sack him from the get-go and pick up a Spaniard with good knowledge of SA as an assistant

He's actually a very good Assistant Manager, and if my long-term game is anything to go by, a very good Manager as well. Not sure why you'd want specifically an assistant with knowledge of anywhere in particular, as it has no more effect than a Scout having knowledge of somewhere.

Yeah, he was "drunk", and it was an "accident" :p

That guy is fairly important, I think, so I'd say this was a planned thing.

Or he could have just gotten drunk and posted a screenshot by accident. But then, why would he just post that? If he's drunk enough to leak something when he shouldn't have, he's drunk enough to do a lot of shit :p

i normally replace phelan and half of my backroom staff ASAP. get in the best coaches etc and it makes a difference to player development and fitness.

tip: always sign Franco Baldini (think thats his name), one of the coaches for England. Best in game i think, and since he doesnt have a club, he is up for grabs.

I think I remember him, yeah. And I always replace almost all of the coaches and scouts as well, though I've left Phelan alone so far. I'm assuming you're all aware of the training-changes that took place in 9.0.3? That is, that it's much harder to get a 7* coach. Now there are more stats that matter, Determination, Discipline and Motivating among them (those always, others vary). Every time I start a new game or otherwise have need for new coaches, I have to look up the site where the formula is shown, so I know what to search for, and use my trusted windows calculator. It's not very complicated, but enough so that I can't remember it for every different training area.

So I bought Henri Saivet for 6.25 in the January window.

I'm hoping he starts to develop quite rapidly as there's some interest in Milito and I'll be looking to offload him come season's end if I can get a good price.

Anyway my Genoa's currently sitting 4th, and just been dumped out of the Italian Cup by lowly Siena (was playing them again in three days, so I rested a lot of players). I'm only one or two points ahead of 5th and 6th ATM, so it's going to be a close finish for that CL spot at this rate.

Edit: on a side note, Lavezzi's scored more than a goal a game in the League, so far. 18 in 16, I think it was.

Oh and feckING MANCHESTER CITY keep buying the players I want.

I was dead keen on signing Ramires, I lodged a bid and offered him a contract - so too did City, who offered him twice as much as me (and I even offered more than he was asking).

I also had Chinedu Obasi, of Hoffenheim, at the top of my list (as the Milito interest was high, and this guy's pretty amazing). I go back to lodge a bid and see how much they wanted and he's already signed for fecking City. FFS.

They've got Gelson Fernandes and Kompany in the bloody reserves too.

So I take it youre after a midfielder and another striker?

Fernandinho from Shakhtar
And try for Robert Lewandowski (Polish Striker). Smashed worships the ground he walks on.

If you want an underrated but fecking good striker, take a look at Marquinhos from Palmeiras - plays AM RLC/F C. Depending on how the dice have fallen when you started the game, he might not be able to become truly world class, but hes young and definitely worth a punt.

i signed him for £8m, and a few seasons later (in the 2014/15 season), here he is:

as for midfielders, my recommendations are Ignacio Camacho (starts at Madrid, hes solid, if not world class, can probably get him pretty cheap).
Or you can try Kuzmanovic, random Serbian midfielder. Again, not world class but one notch down.

Other, better well known names include Veloso, Zapater and Moutinho. Rodwell and Fellaini can be competent too.

Any suggestions for a good target man/strikers?

I'm just in my first season (as United), and I signed Inzaghi as a short term option to get goals,, not really worked out. Sent Berba out on loan as he just wasn't scoring at all, with Rooney really doing all the scoring. I've got Aguero, but then again he's a 'forward' and not a striker or out and out goal getter if you guys know what I mean?

I remember signing Huntelaar in FM 2007, and he was a goal machine.

In this game I've signed Kris Boyd too, but for some reason, although his stats are awesome, he's hardly getting many goals for me?

Are target men in this game not really that good a dimension, and do you really need quick pacey forwards as opposed to big huge head/tap in specialists?

Playing a 4-2-3-1 formation. or a 4-2-2-1-1..
With 2 central midfielders, 2 wide wingers, one withdrawn forward and a main striker..
Not having a good season at all tbh, 10 points behind in the league midway through Jan, coming 9th, however in all the cup competitions so far. Gotten rid of Tevez/Ronaldo already.

My first season as United and in this FM game..any suggestions?

Zain, if you play Aguero right ... he'll score you about 40 goals a season. I played him alongside Rooney/Tevez in my game and he never scored less than 35 goals a season. Just play him as the more attacking striker and Rooney/Tevez as the more defensive. I remember Tevez still got about 20 goals himself, as well as 25 assists or something daft, most of them to Aguero!

However if you do want a good, cheap striker that is ideal as a target man, get Pogrebynak from Zenit, costs about 8m.

Marquinhos is being lined up as my replacement for the soon to be leaving Milito, he and Obina were the top two Forwards on my list.

Ahh, no i've got no problems with Aguero getting goals....He's a machine too, and so is Rooney..

Thing is though, most of their goals come when they get behind the defence and from balls over the top they chase, i.e rely on pace.
Nothing wrong in that..

I'm just looking for someone like an RVN/Huntelaar/Inzaghi type striker who'll get me scrappy goals etc when games are really tight, or if the other team plays with 10 men behind the ball..

That's when I struggle...

Looking for a goal poacher, and will check out that name you gave.

What I'm saying is, I'm looking for an ST who is big and good in the air and strong off the ball to pounce on chances and not a FW....

Fair enough, I just don't see how you'd need one, Rooney and Aguero is a devastating combo, and Aguero has scored me quite a few headers and poachers efforts. A target man won't necessarily get you those type of goals, the point of a target man is a big, strong player who the defense or midfield can just whack the ball up to and he'll be able to beat someone aerially or take it down well, it's not an RVN type who'll smack in loads of goals.

Think of Berbatov or Drogba, both are very good at taking the ball down and holding it up, but neither are real poachers who get you huge amounts of goals.

Honestly I think you're better sticking with the Rooney, Aguero types. Pogrebynak is a good player but he won't score as much goals as those 2.

So I bought Henri Saivet for 6.25 in the January window.

Alot of people say he's not as good in this version but I find him a great compliment and a better option in this game.

Oh and feckING MANCHESTER CITY keep buying the players I want.

Happens for years mate, it's the most frustrating part of the game.

On a positive note, they sold me Micah Richards for 14.25 .

See this Aguero up top and on the Right business isn't working for me... he pots me 25 a year with nearly 20 assists annually from the left, having Rooney headline the attack is much more creative and effective.

Really? I've found Rooney to be far less consistent and good in front of goal than Aguero, I signed Aguero 3 seasons in and before that I played Rooney up front with Tevez, and it was Tevez I had to rely on to get the goals, Rooney has never scored more than 20 goals a season for me. I ended up training Rooney to play as an AMR when I got Aguero, and it worked very well, Aguero got me 40 goals a season and Rooney got almost as much goals and probably more assists than he used to get.

The beauty of the game I suppose.

I signed Huntelaar to be my target man, sold Tevez and Berba. Huntelaar did bloody well for me, then after 4-5 years when he reached 30, i sold him onto madrid for twice what i paid (by that time, Bojan was ready to become my first choice striker).

Generally though, i play a 4-2-3-1 with the front 4 all scoring plenty of goals between them. Saivet, Vela, Marquinhos, Bojan, Rooney and Ronaldo rotate around these 4 positions almost at will, scoring/assisting very similar amounts. ill get a screenshot from this season when i can.

This is my current team in my 4th season
formation.jpg

I bought this guy a few seasons back on a free from some Ghana team (Ashanti Gold?) and he didn't get a work permit so i loaned him out for a season and a half to Antwerp then half way through his second season i offered him a new contract and to my surprise the work permit thing went away, so i called him back. And this season so far he's been my leading scorer. His name is Bernard McCarthy and he's a big bastard who scores all kinds of goals.
BernardMccarthy.jpg

This guy came through my academy and already pretty much looks world class, he's young english and a manc. Scott Welch
scottwelch.jpg

I snapped this guy up from Leeds (our feeder team) for 925k, Arron Griffin (Sold Evra to Roma for about £19mil).
ArronGriffin.jpg

Now when i saw this guy (one of my scouts found him playing for Modena) i nearly shit myself, he looks better than Messi & Ronaldo and he's only 17 (was 15 at the time). In his first season he got 12 games and only 1 goal (to be fair most of the games were mere mins), so he hasn't exactly been clinical and this season he's slowly getting more minutes and a few more goals. He's definately one for the future. Mattia Perreti

surely stat edited or something. ive played dozens of FM games and even when ive used Genie Scout ive never found anything like them.

I can believe some of them, but I'm having a hard time with the lat one, Mattia Perreti. I've played a lot, and while I've seen regens as good as or better than him, not at 17. Are you using another patch than 9.0.3? In the earlier patches, the regens would regularly be absolutely top class from the start.

Also, don't be blinded by the high stats. That guy is a very good player, no doubt about it, but some stats pull him down a bit for his positions. His pace, off the ball, passing, balance, decisions, etc. Also, 20 jumping is pointless with only 11 heading. Still, very good find. I'm just finding it hard to believe he's so good at so young.

I also noticed that he hasn't played very well, though that could be that you haven't found the proper way to use him yet. Where are you using him? I'm not sure I'd use him as a striker. He looks more like a proper attacking midfielder to me.

3 goals in 5 games is a good run of form, no?
