Gaming Football Manager 2009

Do you have to start again with the new patch or can you load a season up with it?

I'm guessing you can't

Aye. It wasn't that bad for me, and I was still getting a reasonable amount of goals, but the average ratings(which seem to be the major reason for value change, from what I can tell), were always poor.

Having said that, I may be wrong, it just seems better than it was.

On a side note, the trick(s) to success still seem to be loads of through-balls, allowing your wingers a free role(man-marking on wingers is still on-existent), and lots and lots of long shots. The defence can't deal with through balls at all.

Jesus Christ Arsenal are a machine on my game. They won the Champion's League / Premiership double in my first season and have now just gone the entire second season unbeaten and won the quadruple after their kids beat my first team 2-0 in the League Cup final.

I mean I suppose it's random on every save, and if I started again they wouldn't be anywhere near so good, but it's fecking frustrating!

Nah, they are. They seem to dominate most everyone's games, until a human manager breaks their stranglehold or their players die of old age.

SI are apparently going to fix it.

They've been a bit shitter on my game but they are still always right behind me in the league.

I'm playing this too much, pretty sure I dreamt I got a touchline ban last night.

Im currently downloading the team badges and the face packs.

Where do i put them once i get them? I have it installed via Steam.

Thanks.

EDIT: Figured it in the end.

Does having facepacks installed slow down your game much?

Not that i've noticed though i have only been playing with facepacks for around 15mins.. :D

On another issue, i updated a few things in the editor and when i go to load a new game i cant find my database

You mean you edited the standard 9.20 database? I don't think it will be named separately so, you just select the 9.20 database and the changes should be there.

Or have I misunderstood the question?

Yeh i edited that database but then it asks you to name it doesnt it, so i named it something like "my edit" and then in previous versions you just select the "my edit" database when prompted at the start of the game.

It isnt showing up now though.

Odd. I don't use the editor, so I might not be much use. Maybe search on www.sigames.com

Yeh will do. Ta.

Gunna leave it for now though, just figuring out how to put the facepacks on and stuff has made my head hurt so i think it's time for a lie down

Did you specify another User Data folder location earlier? I did that, and my databases didn't get saved in the new location (have to change it in the actual editor), but in the old documents - Sports Interactive - Football Manager 09 folder. If you did that, just go there, and move it to your 'db' folder in your new User Data folder (and remember to change it in the editor).

Yeh i had to tell it where to go to get the faces and stuff.

I shall have a play now and see what happens, it sounds reeeeeally confusing though!

EDIT: Done it. Cheers dude.

I'm bored of this game now though, need to try something new so I have decided to start in the Indonesian league and build a team to conquer the Asian CL.

Is it me or does the 3D match engine look better after this patch?

You're right, they have made changes too it. Mainly to them boxes you can view (confidence etc).

Looks much better.

Some change is always welcome. That's why I've started my third "FM Experiment" on another forum, where a bunch of guys get to create 'themselves', with some limitations (all 15 year old, all 200 potential, all 100 current ability, and some restrictions on how they fill in the stats). The first one was with players, though there wasn't a whole lot of customization. Then this summer I did one where everyone was a Manager, and there was more choices of how they wanted "themselves" to turn out. This time it's back to players, just with the same degree of customization.

Then I put it on holiday and write periodical updates. It's fun for them to see what happens to themselves (and the others), and I like running it. So it's win/win ^^

Come to think of it, maybe I should try it here after this one..

Thats a really good idea to be honest.

Sounds like a really good idea mate and I have no doubt you will get a load of volunteers.

Yeah you should try one here.

Apparently the "Arsenal problem", as I have come to call it, has been fixed in this latest patch, but only for new games. SI have reduced the CA and PA of a lot of the Arsenal players to better reflect real life, and as such they don't disappear off into the lead anymore.

However, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that this wasn't really the problem, as Arsenal's squad had the lowest PA/CA average out of the all of the top four prior to the patch, too. It seems that the reason Arsenal do so well, and why they end up being huge again even after the patch as long as they make some decent signings, is because Wenger's AI is absolutely perfect for taking advantage of the match engine. He always gets the tactics spot on.

I can't get into this.

I've been Leicester, QPR, United and Aston Villa and haven't even completed one season yet!
