We don't seem to be doing anything particularly spectacular, just keeping a solid base and relying on the goals of Ademir and the trickery of the attacking Mids to carry us onwards and upwards.
Paul Madely getting plenty of game time too it seems

Yeah good thing that the flexibility and fluidity of Pedernera, Hidegkuti, Mazzola etc is paying off significantly. Of course, as long as Der Kaiser is at the back, the defense sorts itself out . Just a shame to see Liedholm not getting that much of a look in. Would fit in seamlessly in that company but can't really be complaining about how Lobanovsky's handling the side.

Aye it's only been 5 games, but clearly all my bitching about Lobanovskiy doing this or that was misguided considering that at the very least he delivered a well-deserved hammering to Edgar
We're climbing the league. But it's funny to see Petschovschi and Amancio starting all my games, when they were picked as understudies to Hagi and Stojkovic. Still early doors though. Wonder when Cristiano will even get on the bench. Leonidas, Finney and Charlton are beasts.
And that back 4 of Mihajlovic, Ferdinand, Quincoces, and Gerets, is exactly what I planned for. Hope it lasts.

Cheers-Amancio is 23 and Iosif is 24 though whereas Hagi and Stojkovic are 20. I'd bet they start getting more games next year. Cristiano is getting international games at least !
19 shots and 15 on target against @antohan and can only score 1 goal! Wtf. My team has become draw specialists like United last season. Good to see Lippi finally start to improve on team selection, need to start putting away those chances.
Cheers for the write up. Seems my team can only ever have close games which we usually lose. I've got the lowest overall goal difference in terms of distance from zero and I am just hoping once a few of my younger players start to mature that I'll start to move up the table.
And so it begins... I told you! I don't have Cruyff but Rafa Benitez on the bench.
Bring on van Hanegem and Krol FFS!
Disappointed to see one of my top targets, Zico, not featuring although understandable in a 4-3-3. He would probably be on the bench with Romario anyway.
@harms why did you say Fritz Walter was Di Stefano good? Looks dogshit every time his rating pops up.
While I doubt I'll make that turnaround, I am hoping as certain players age, they'll come into team and improve things.
Bit pissed that Xavi, Alonso, Pirlo and Busquets not in team as a central midfield of Zidane and Giresse (merde!) isn't what I had planned.... would like 4-1-3-2 with Busquets sitting. Same with Koemans being on the bench - was hoping he could ping some long passes to Keizer and Garrrincha and stretch things.
Based on? I'm more inclined to believe he was better than what his contemporaries would admit. A German war veteran was hardly going to get much sympathy and fawning over in the 50s.

Yeah that was weird from Michels, for all his insistence of playing fluid and great attacking football, he demanded a lot of industry from his players and was a strict tactician too. So it's really unlike him to be playing Zidane and Giresse in midfield, a bizarre central-midfield pairing, esp under Michels.

Problem is you got Pep. Apparently the fact the Dutch school is all about pressing and triangles suddenly turns it into tiki taka as a defensive mechanism instead of having the likes of Neeskens, Haan or Jansen. Giresse and Zidane will do.
The Peter Crouch Award News Update
Just to keep things even more interesting down at the bottom, last place will win the Peter Crouch Award. Whether this is just a name or you will actually win Peter Crouch might just depend on whether the 35 year old retires at the end of the season.
Morales slips into the line up for the Dream teamers. Simonsen takes a rest. Popescu also gives Desailly a rest. Gio has Vukas return from injury while Kohler has to replace Khurtsilava who is out for a hernia for a few weeks.
Tactical Preview
Popescu opens the scoring here shooting from 5 yards on a scramble after a corner kick. Just few minutes later Morales creates something with a dribbling run down the left and centers to Spencer for a quick 2-0. However before the end of the half Vukas marks his return from injury in good fashion. 2-1 at the half. Trap then brings on Brian Laudrup. Laudrup evens the score again right after the half.

@ADJUDICATOR vs. @Igor Drefljak
Two teams fighting to remain in the CL slots. Adjudicator wants to stay in and Igor recently surged in October right behind Harms in recent form. Kubala has been crucial for Adjudicator. Angered by the 1000-1 odds, Kubala is willing this team on. Igor likewise has a catalyst in Matthias Sindelar. The Austrian connection has been a focal point for Igor’s surge as Sindelar has developed a good understanding with ‘Clockwork’ Ocwirk the metronome of Igor’s side.
Tactical Preview
First half is the Kubala show. Scoring one goal and setting up Henry for another. Kubala is used to playing against stars and making people look at his feet instead. Almost looking like a lesson. What will the second half bring for Igor?

The dominant team comes into this match with some alternate universe swagger. A few players have been given a rest for Skizzo. Luigi Riva rotates in while Pedernera goes on a brief vacation. Dorner also moves into midfield while Edwards pedals back into the defensive line, perhaps to combat the threat of Sandor Kocsis.
Tactical Preview
Overmars starts the game poorly, leading to cries of “Zico , Zico, Zico” from the stands. Rivelino dribbles around Jusufi, drives towards goal, lays off a pass , late arriving Blanchflower gets on the end of it and scores for the underdogs! 1-0 Will this score hold? Or can the leaders come back?
The Red Enigma team has been hit with a plague of injuries. Pele, Vogts, Rattin, Reuter are all out for this match. They’ve been struggling with players in and out of the team. Lato who had a poor performance is benched in favor of Juan Joya. After a wobbling beginning Lattek and Di Stefano have steadied the boat. Developing an understanding with the happy England International Stanley Matthews contributes to this increased synergy in the harm squad.
Tactical Preview
The first half is mostly a tactical masterclass from harms. Di Stefano roaming like a prowling wolf unleashing counter attacks. Erico is unlucky to have missed some good counter attacks. But its the Red’nigmas on the scoring boards first! Tostao with class dribbling and shooting from 15 yards making people forget that other injured Brazilian. Lattek brings on Hector Scarone for Erico who is having a poor day at the office. Can this work for a comeback?

I fast forwarded a few matches and I discover that @Spontaneous1 has won his first match!
Sacchi surprises by keeping Neeskens on the bench in favor of Haan and Sastre. Fine players in their own right but the media heads question this decision. Gerd has also struggled so maybe this match will get them going. Meanwhile after the betting favorite struggled with matches to Pillow and Anto, two consecutive 3-0 victories see tuppet on the rise.

The Pillow and the Peanut
So it turns out I had put the 4123 in the wrong slot for Edgar his first 3 matches. So I moved that formation into primary. And it turns out the next three matches Edgar had same results with 433 and 442 - 2 losses before a scrappy away win. The Pillow Altodevil team now enters match against Guardiola who has only managed one victory so far. John Terry makes his first start for Pillow with Emlyn Hughes moving into holding mid against Guardiola’s midfield of Keane-Veron-Redondo. Making his second start for Pnut is Roberto Baggio finally benching Hugo. So Pillow gest to play against his favorite non-Utd Player!

BREAK
The international break is here so I begin the early Team Player Stats. I won’t do everyone in one post but will definitely get through everyone through the weekend or quicker depending. Here is the table with most people on 7 and just skizzo, tuppet, macern and NM on 6 matches played.
Notes:
The Climbers @Moby / @Raees - finally they listen to me, start Zico, Zico gets 2 goals and they are now 10th.
@Tuppet - struggled early and now following harms up the table.
@Spontaneous1 - first win and moved out of the Crouch Zone.

You just sent that PM to switch formation and I didnt even decide if I would allow that because then everyone might ask and i dont want to keep switching formations for everyone multiple times.
Also I am already simmed through January anyway so I couldnt switch formations for several months (i write slower than i sim )
Plus you won last two matches including juggernaut Skizzonito ffs !!!
