FINAL - Skizzo VS Cal - All time 3 yr peak - Auction Draft

Who would win based on their 3 yr peak?

  • Total voters
    47
  • Poll closed .
Christ, good thing I woke up a few minutes too late or else Cal? may have been punished by his own vote. What is it with managers needing to vote themselves last minute?

Ah, I didn't know you'd voted for yourself! Penalties I assume. @Annahnomoss

Penalties! Send them in. To clarify, the directions of saves will be made based on the goalkeepers point of view and the penalty takers will be using their point of view.

I.e 1. Messi - left and 1. Save - right means a save.

For the record, had @Cal? started with this team I would have voted him. It's a close contest, but with it being an all-time draft there's something to say about trying to create a team around such a specific style where we all hold some sort fo "gold standard" for how it should work and what the player attributes should be. No slight on @Pat_Mustard and @Skizzo, but you would expect an all-time finalist to have an excellent defence, midfield and forward line.

The confusion at the start made it dead even for me, and two things really stood out which had very little attention: 1. Amoros would be in all sorts of trouble in his flank, that flank was shot really, and I rate Amoros!, 2. Schmeichel doesn't sit right with me as the keeper for Cal?, not at all, I don't recall him as an 11th outfield player. Awesome one-to-one, but against van Basten/Maradona/Eusebio you don't want to get to the 1-to-1 situation.

Hmm, what's the etiquette on waiting for Skizzo here I wonder? I know its essentially random, but it feels slightly rude firing on without him.

I think he should be around for the shootout, deserves to, so no harm in waiting for him to agree shots/saves.

Except then you have one team playing that opening 15 minutes, then subbing out two players from the middle of the park, and asking them to change the style they started with...setting them back again.

But, we can agree to disagree on how big an issue it is. Although one team prepared, and one team not, can give an edge in games like these :)

You missed another relevant factor: make two subs within 15 minutes and you may struggle to finish the game with 11 fit players.

Yeah I'd much prefer that if everyone else is cool with it.

The draft started in May 13, we can wait a few hours.

That said, the inhabitants of the "next draft idea" thread may want your heads on a pitchfork.

It's pretty absurd. Imagine 10 minutes into a major final and up goes the subs board. Off goes Makelele, and Zidane, who says "wtf? I'm the ultimate big game player" and sticks the head on Cal as he trudges past the dugout.

Well I was 5-1 down and brought it back to a draw :D

Damn what a thrilling end. Great to see this goes to penos imo, although I really think Skizzo deserved it for the first half.

I hate it. Just vote for yourself straight ahead to see the score throughout the match, why do people feel the urge to be sophisticated?

Only left, right, centre or top left, bottom left, etc?

Well considering gio and theon are on the same "manager team"...and mani voted for the team he didn't think would win just to keep it close. .I think I'm getting shafted here

Sending the penalties over in a bit

The coins has decided that Skizzo goes first. Maradona wanders up to the penalty spot. Maradona - "Now I've missed a lot of penalties. And they have saved a lot of them - but I've also scored plenty." Will Schmeichel be the right type of keeper to save it? "I used to wait for the keepers...I can't hit it too hard because I'm already on top of the ball."

Maradona steps up, waits Schmeichel out who just won't dive and shoots it to his left. Schmeichel dives after it and glues the ball, it is a save. 0-0

Cal has unsurprisingly chosen Cristiano to go first ahead of Pele. The manager has openly called him his favorite and they've been bunkbedding together through-out the tournament. They've clicked great as they both share the common interest of talking about how great Cristiano really is.

Cristiano looks more confident than ever when he runs towards the ball, blasts it to the right top corner. Jennings goes to the right hand corner and is nowhere near the ball. 1-0 Cal

 I think he's a great penalty taker

van Basten is up next, can he bring Skizzo back in to the game against Schmeichel? He missed his penalty against him in the 1992 penalty shoot-out. van Basten is shaking of nerves from his memories of their last encounter.

Schmeichel dives to the right, van Basten sees it ahead of time and places it in the middle to make it 1-1.

Pele steps up. Like Maradona he loves making a last minute decision to try and lure the keeper to dive before he places it in a corner. How will Jennings handle the pressure of being up against a player who hasn't missed a penalty in an official match in decades.

Pele jogs towards the ball, stops and Jennings dives to his right and Pele can easily place it on the other side. He quickly sends a message to Cal and Cristiano who is going to win the top scorer award from his 3 penalty goals in the tournament. It is 2-1 to Cal.

No clue how they managed to interview him so fast after the penalty, that is impressive.

Eusebio goes third for Skizzo. He has power, precision and is a great penalty taker. There is no way he will miss this one, he stares Schmeichel down who tells him to feck off.

Eusebio takes charge from outside of the penalty area, it is a full powered rocket straight towards the top right corner.

Schmeichel saves! 2-1 Cal who has one penalty more left.

The only German, Schweinsteiger, steps up. Always great penalty takers and @Balu 's hero in the World Cup. It has been a long draft like he had to point out and it would be sad to see his favorite player miss in a final.

He steps up towards the ball, slots it in on the left and Jennings misses it completely. 3-1 to Cal, fecking Germans and their penalties. Skizzo needs a miracle by now.
