Who do you think will win?

I shouldn't be a douche about it, just frustrated with people discrediting Martial left and right and claiming it's right that he has been rotting on the bench.

Nani was immense for Portugal as well.

You're not being a douche  If I'm being honest, Man United drained a lot of excitement related to football from in general. Defeats don't mean much to me, United and certain losses in my life have put things into perspective.

People can complain but Portual had a game plan and defended very well and France were too conservative and very dull

France were poor. Deschamps forward selection was disappointing. He didn't really give Martial a chance. Granted he was poor the first game, but to bring him on with 12 mins to go was stupid. Feel for the French lads (especially Patrice) but I think they were complacent. Well done Portugal! Nani put in a very composed performance in a poor Portugese team.

Sorry this one is not on Deschamps, in the same time frame Coman showed far more. It's upto Martial to show it in training and earn his place back in the team. Being an automatic starter at United and good performances in the qualifiers have seem to have gone to his head. He better snap out of it pronto when he returns to United or Mourinho will send him packing soon enough.

He'd be a fecking moron to do that. United isn't awash with attacking talent these days. He's one of the best in the world. Any team would love to have him. Such talent requires careful man management.

The thing about Portugal is that you couldn't say they deserved to lose any game in the tournament. Uninspiring for the most part, but I wouldn't call them lucky.

He does stroll around with a certain swagger that all top players need I suppose but let's hope he hasn't bought into his own hype. Yes we paid an insane amount for him, yes he was our best player but that wasn't that hard, he didn't have much competition for that tag.
:(

Strange finish? McManaman drunk? What was strange about it.

No one cares how Portugal got to the final or how they played, the only thing that matters is that in the final they scored one more goal than their opponents, the rest is ridiculous.

France is loaded with stars, but what this tournament proved, from Italy to Iceland to Wales, and now Portugal, is that football is still a team game. Well deserved win by the Portuguese.

Snap out of what? He had one rough 45 minutes then was discarded. The only reason Deschamps has escaped criticism is because he's a French legend. Martial is not the only one treated shoddily, took him long enough to realise that Griezmann was the star man who needed to be played centrally.

Parabens Portugal, well deserved. Altogether it is the national team where I found more players that I did not know and have surprised me, Guerreiro,Joao Mario, Sanches, the goalkeeper, and of course Nani and Cristiano. Special mention to Pepe

RTE 2; President Higgins saying J Giles represents 'the origins of football'. (Johnny is retiring as a pundit). I kind of know what he means, but ... Mind, you Gilsey was a great midfielder and great servant to Ireland. I remember him saying in the seventies all the slagging he got at Leeds about playing for Ireland, "They give out caps over there with cornflake packets". Respect.

I don't give a feck about nationality, I've been a Portugal fan for 12 years.

It would be a sad world if you were forced to support the country you're born in. Why support a team if you feel no connection to it other than being born in that country? It's such a silly concept.

Congratulations to you and all of the other Portugal fans, regardless of nationality.

Congrats to Portugal and @Sly

Nani was their best attacking player in the tournament in my opinion.

Ian Darke going on a wum on ESPN now

"This was the worst tournament since 1990"
"Maybe this is the Final we deserved"
"Portugal would have never made it here with the old format. Isn't that a message to UEFA?"

Absolutely spot on. Cheers mate!

I'm shattered and I have to be up in six hours..

Italy knocks Spain, Germany knocks Italy, France knocks Germany, Portugal knocks France. It is like every team had only one big game win in them.

Could just be imagining it, but a lot of these English commentators seem quite bitter, whereas the Americans are giving a more balanced view. McManamamananan said something along the lines of, "congratulations to Portugal, but we don't have to like the way they played." Nobody's saying you do, you prick. Just stop being so bitter.

I don't know why we're getting punished with his presence along with that guy next to him who I don't even know. To top it off they stick Mcmanamanan and Martinez in the studio. This is shocking.

Eiffel Tower without the colours if the winning side and disturbs in the Champs Elysees when french fans disrupt the celebrations of portuguese expats, french being french, suck on that frog eaters

Refusing to light up their ugly monstrosity doesn't change the fact that they lost. Makes me happy to hear they're taking it so well!

Fantastic win for Portugal and CR7!

Congratulations!

Portugal played with great strategy and they did not give up after losing Ronaldo. Worthy champions!

I've noticed a bit of that too. Brexit plus another poor tournament by the England team perhaps taking its toll.

ESPN always chooses some interesting folks for commentary don't they? Even the uber-Irish guy they ALWAYS get to do Ireland games. And the American is Taylor Twellman isn't he?
McM: Everybody can sit back and defend and defend.*

*Except England against Iceland.
 The irony. To add to that, isn't he a member of that "golden generation" that never won anything? Really, x2 since he was a part of a very talented Liverpool team that never won the league.
Do you support Portugal as well?
I don't really "support" a national team... there are a few I like and always end up watching because of various reasons... either I have heritage going back to there (Ireland and Scotland) or I've been there and enjoyed it (France), or I just love the team's history (Italy)

Luxury of being from a country that's rather irrelevant in the sport I guess.
