Final: Italy vs England

England impressed in many ways, but in the end I believe that the low defence and a little safe way of playing cost the gold medal. However this team will be up for it again, in the WC.
Sadly, Stougate will still be in charge so Grealish we still be on the bench while we fail, yet again.

I can't imagine the amount of restraint Rashford and Sancho will have to show in the dressing room. They must be absolutely seething...

Rashford is a person just like you and me. He feels pressure just like you and me. He missed a penalty. So what?! We're not machines to execute things perfect all the time, every time without fault.

Its football man. You win some and you lose some. Don't crucify players cause I doubt anyone on this forum will have ice cool composure in such a situation with so much on the line.

What worries me more now is the abuse he's going to be subjected to on social media for the next weeks/months.

I agree with you but if nerves are getting to you it's one more reason to keep it simple. Still, he was thrown into the match with the unnecessary pressure of being there only for taking the penalty. Baffling. Not any player's fault this result.

Don't worry, I'm not some twitter idiot, not going to send him messages. Just saying he made a mistake the way he took it. Sancho's penalty was also shit but I feel Rashford put additional pressure on himself.

Good tournament from England overall despite tonight. They're a young side and could step up to win in a major final soon.

A lot of the players play for United and Tottenham so lack winning experience which is important. Hopefully we'll go that step further in Qatar next year.

Mancini's subs and tactical change won them the game. Italy completely dominated possession after he took Barella off for that Roma lad and switched the formation.

Southgate just stood there looking clueless.
I think if Manchini is in charge of England, england win.

Bartomeu should be in jail, years ago. I've said that for years.
And? and I don't make decisions neither you do.

And it doesn't change a thing.
Pathetic performance by England.
Horrendous display in a final.
Disgusting style.
Deserved loss.
A triumph for football.

I'm sorry for the players because there is some quality there although far away from what media tries to sell. But you play against teams with one third of your quality just sitting back in your own area.

All I've said is true and we live in a free speech world.

Shouldn't you be starting a gofundme campaign so your club can sign some players?

Rashford deserves it for his penalty technique apparently.
And school meals apparently. It was always going to be blamed on a United player. Even though he was only on the pitch for less than a minute. Where were Southgate's favourites who he played all tournament when it came to penalties.

Italy created some chances atleast, did England have a shot apart from shaws?
I’m not going to rub it in. Pens are brutal.

Because of negativity. England can create chance, but Southgate is boredom incarnate.

Rashford and Sancho came on at the 118th minute ! Do you think it wasn't implied they would take one penalty ??? They didn't have to volunteer, that's the sole reason they were sent on thanks to the genius in charge. Who is that mysterious best penalty taker ? Kane ? Fine, then Maguire take the fifth.
It's terribly sad for Saka, he didn't ask for all of this and neither did Rashford or Sancho. You will never have a better opportunity to get rid of that clown. Leave him off the bus with the specimens that will roam the streets of London tonight.

Of course they shouldn't have been brought on just to take a penalty, but they were hardly going to say no. They stepped up, so did Saka, but it wasn't to be.

I don't know why people are surprised. For all the plaudits Southgate has been getting, he's still a safety first manager. He doesn't know how to get the best out of all the attacking players England have.

But he's come closer than anyone else, so they'll at least give him a crack at the next WC.

England players taking the medals off their necks within milliseconds of having it put on. Stupid cnuts, it took 55 years to get you those medals.

Note: Hendo kept it on.

Lampard saying “you have to give Raheem credit for saying “no, I’m not feeling it” is the worst take I’ve ever heard. He’s basically saying “nah, let the 19 year old take it”.

Doing something when you’re scared is the definition of character and bravery and today he’s gone way down in my estimation.
This post doesn't make sense. Why force someone who feels he doesn't have it in him to perform a task. It's better to ask for someone up for something to do it rather than someone who can't handle that mental pressure. It's quite honest of Sterling to be willing to expose himself to everyone that he's not mentally up for it to give your team a better fighting chance by choosing someone who can.

Or would you have rather Sterling himself going forward, not up for it and miss anyways?

Ridiculous. You run and kick the ball, place it high. He steps, jogs, stops, rolls it into the post. He did everything wrong and he should be held accountable, as this is not how to take an important penalty. You increase the chances for failure, quite obviously. A miss is a miss, but the data behind it is telling. Last part, agree - but that is about something else than this football match.

You always create some chances when the opposition parks the bus. As far as I'm concerned, England manage to neutralize most of the threats and the defence is solid. That said, Southgate should have put Grealish on much earlier to make better use of the counter attacks.

Do you have a double digit IQ? Always repeating the same vapid axioms. Incapable of critical thinking. Best of luck in life, you’ll need it.
Get yourself over to Twitter, I'm sure if you search for any racist term you've ever heard you'll find something directed at Rashford for you to have a little tug over. Get in the replies to tell him he had it coming.

Just ... why in the world would you choose a 19 year old talent as your fifth player to shoot in a penalty shootout in a freaking final. That's not only insane, it's also irresponsible towards a player who's just at the start of his career.
I thought France was overconfident, bordering on stupid to choose Mbappe as their fifth player - but this takes the cake.

There just has to be a different, experienced player in your team who steps up and takes that huge responsibility.
The whole English team and coaching staff just risked throwing a very young, talented player, who had his big breakthrough in this European Championship, to the wolves aka the yellow press. Just irresponsible.
I hope Saka won't be blamed for this.
He had the balls to step up, while a different, more experienced player should have taken that responsibility.

Southgate was awful. Absolutely awful. We got a lucky penalty against Denmark, a fortunately easy draw against Ukraine, a terrible performance against Scotland and mostly through boring pragmatic football.

Nice bloke and he has done well to mould the team with a good spirit but he has to just step down now and let someone else take over the team.

Well you keep responding??  Stick me on ignore if you can’t take it!

It’s coming to Rome!! :D:D
I hope you feel very big about yourself.

by all means celebrate that italy won but to rub it in the face of others just shows how pathetic you are
