Final: Italy vs England

It's not every time though is it, it's the usual thick ignorant types who are despised in this country going to usually places in Europe and continuing to be thick ignorant pigs. The people who act up abroad, 9/10 are the types who act up at home and are awful cretins. To say all English people are like that is just....silly.
Not every Englishman sure, but they're just notorious for it.

If you ask any bartender or somebody working at sightseeing places in central Europe 'who are the worst foreign tourist you deal with?' the answer will be 'English' most of the time. I've seen a few of them pissing near to a little girl and swinging their little cocks at her.

They didn't even look like a 'hooligan' element and it's all always swept under 'banter' 'a few pints' carpet.

Maybe it's just lower alco tolerance?

It's fine inside England, true. Good people. Maybe it's good that they play all the games at Wembley then.

Yeah .

But honestly I don't mind it too much. They are having a good time on vacation and I was the same at times, especially when you hang around with the guys. But it's easy to see why some might find it over the top.

It's amazing there was such a divide for a long time between support United and supporting England.

Both are hated by everyone and else and nobody wants to see you win anything. It feels right at home.

Nah don't get it wrong mate it was just my experience from yesterday. Man I was acting like a thick and stupid idiot back in the days too. It's not even remotely "English only". But it is true that the English might have a bit of a reputation in Europe for it.

Nope, I'm the same.

Thing is Mount usually does turn up just when you're doubting him, so he probably will in the final. That's the virtue of playing in every game at AM, and taking every set-piece, eventually you will do something.
Question is how much Southgate is relying on him defensively over offensively. He'll be issued with one of the biggest defensive jobs of the final in stifling Jorginho. Whether that should be the biggest job of your AM depends on what kind of approach you subscribe to.

Xenophobic card now at play. Always works.
When you single out a nation, highlight some of the worst incidents and generalize that the whole population of said nation will act in the fashion of those incidents, yeah, I'd say that's xenophobic

Every single country has a percentage of classless cnuts behaving like pigs on an away day but it seems England has got the biggest/most noticeable. Which still is just percentage. Better?

Southgate’s pragmatic approach had worked out well for England. Italy have played two ET and expelled a lot of energy in that Belgium match, they were exhausted against Spain. Whereas England have conserved energy where possible with their style and rotation. Ukraine was a stroll and although we went to ET last night we were on the front foot which isn’t as taxing.

Italy don’t have many great backup options and we have Grealish, Sancho, Rashford, Foden and Henderson all fresh as daisies. Still worried about the middle as Rice and Phillips will get pulled apart, if we can overcome that we have a great chance.

Definitely. You lot look like a machine and there are still people on the bench.

I’d play grealish - Kane - Saka

that way when the Italians kick them all over it won’t affect United :)
Which is exactly why Sterling should play instead of Grealish, and possibly Foden as well: let them kick the City players!

Booing the Danish anthem
Setting of a firework during it
Diving
Pointing a laser at Schmeichel during the penalty
Charged by Uefa because of the above violations

But yeah, football is coming home

Cry more

I found this sequence really impressive. They knew Denmark were dead on their feet. I felt a bit sorry for them because they clearly didn't want to be passed around in circles like little children but they couldn't muster up the energy to press and tackle properly, but it was such a superb show of dominance from England.

Bloody hell you've been crying for so long I'm gobsmacked you've got any energy left! I hope Rashford scores the winner from cheating, that'll be the cherry on top, you'd explode.

Itally brought on Locatelli, Belotti, Beradi and Bernadeschi against Spain... I mean sure it isn'st as strong as ours, but their bench isn't as weak as say Denmarks.

We have to also know that Denmark were down to ten men in that period, hence England could pass it around so comfortably well and Denmark were absolutely gassed. Still credit to the England players to be able to do that

I never thought I'd see the day that people were having to hope England lose a major final.

Unreal, isn't it? As if Climate Change, the Pandemic and all the other BS going on right now wasn't enough. Truly dark times

So selection decision. Assume Gareth will play the same back four? DMs - does Henderson need to start to help us progress the ball better to provide central link between defence and attack. I think versus Italian press we need players who want the ball centrally.
As for up front has Mount done enough to retain his place and do we go Saka or Sancho?

I wonder if he's Scottish or Irish. The amount of crap he spewed pre and post match of this were absolutely incredible

Yeah forgot to mention that, but even with 11 men, Denmark had nothing left in the tank. I don't often see teams visibly that knackered the way they were last night. Perhaps that trip to Baku really took a lot out of them.

One, Italian fans booed Spain's national anthem, too, no need to single England fans out on this and who cares. Two, who cares. Three, clear penalty. Four, an absolutely disgrace, done by a single idiot who deserves a lifetime ban. One out of four. Not bad for a bunch of cheats.

The salt is unreal when it comes to England.

Agreed - just never thought I’d see it ever happen!
Even as an outsider (Yank), I’m really happy for England and their fans. Such a special occasion too that’s it’s in Wembley.

Going to be an insane day of the final! Can only imagine the energy around the country after last night.

There will be fireworks and lasers at the welcome home party for football. We were just practising

Can we keep this thread on track, discussions about the final, and tactics etc and not the rhetoric of whose fans have behaved poorly, least liked etc, other threads are available for such

To be fair, Denmark knew it's coming home yet turned up to try and spoil the party. Who the hell did they think they are?

If England get a penalty against Italy, we won't point a laser in the eye this time. We'll set a firework to the face instead

I would expect England to line up with 5 at the back, probably the same team that started against Germany.

Then we'll get one of sancho, rashford or grealish on to stretch the game at 70-ish minutes.

Ivar the Boneless... Hans Christian Andersen... Viggo Mortensen... Sandi Toksvig... Nicklas 'Lord' Bendtner... Caroline Wozniacki... Whigfield... your boys took a hell of a beating... can you hear me..? Peter Schmeichel ...your boys took a hell of a beating..!

Not sure if we'll go with a back 5, but both managers are cautious by nature and will try to keep it tight for at least an hour or so, before loosening things up a bit in the latter stages.

England have the better attackers, but Italy's midfield has far more quality. Both sides are obviously very good defensively. Not much in it overall, but I'd say Italy are marginally more likely to come out with a victory.

I’d start grealish, the amount of free kicks he’d win around the box would be useful when you have the likes of Maguire

Must say Chiellini & Bonucci leaking goals lately. Keep pressure on them and Donnarumma's genius won't help them that much.

Oh and tight marking for Chiesa please, he's ridiculously good, it's not even funny.

England have played their final yesterday. They haven’t got the mentality to get themselves up again, unlike the Italians.

Getting to the final for England is the biggest thing they have achieved in over half a century and if they lose, they will still be hero’s. Italy on the other hand thrive on this pressure. Getting to semi finals and finals is normal for them. They know wining is the only success. Losing on Sunday is failure. That’s why I see Italy wining on Sunday.

I want England to win, but I'm feeling a lot more conflicted than I thought.

The case for Italy:
1. They have played the best football in the tournament.
2. They have had tougher opponents in the knockout stages.
3. They are actually the underdog. Few people would have Italy in their top 5 favorites to win the tournament, whereas practically everyone had England as their top 5 and even top 3 favorites to win it.
4. The English football fans and media are going to be unbearable for many years if they win.
5. Even if they outplayed Denmark, I don't like the manner in which they won that semi.

The case for England:
1. There are several United players. This is only relevant for United fans, obviously.
2. While England are the favorites in this case, historically they are not. In that sense they are the underdog.
3. It's not that long since Italy won a major tournament. It's more interesting with some variation.

TLDR; if I wasn't a United(or any PL team) fan, then I'd probably root for Italy. I just want our boys to enter next season full of confidence and positivity.

I reckon the Italians are going to be diving and shithousing. It will probably boil down to how English players keep their composure and the ref. It is funny that the final involves two nations I dispise above all others but I prefer the English over the Italians. Come on England.

I honestly wouldn't rush Grealish into the starting lineup. Thought he was a bit of an overexcited puppy last night. I think Southgate has used him correctly so far.
