Final: Italy vs England

Tempted to bring in Henderson for Mount and shore up the midfield 3/allow Phillips/Henderson to occupy the space in/around 10 to contend with Italy's midfield. I'd also be keen to see one of Sancho/Grealish start over Saka who I think could be "managed" more easily by the experienced Italians.

If England can get to the point of the game where both sides are looking to their bench for answers, England will win. Italy could end up controlling the game with an early goal. I think it'll be a cagey affair, and am already preparing for ET.

Penalties = Italy win.

Agree, good post. To me at least the longer the game gets, the likelier it will be for Italy to win. A good start is going to be very important for England.

Id deffo bring Henderson, Grealish and Sancho for Rice, mount and Saka. Add pace and experience and attack them. Be enough to win that

So after Denmark is out, I hope England wins it now. I just can't bring myself to support Italy. They have undoubtedly played some good football this tournament, but I always despised them and their negative football, and one tournament of quality football hasn't undone that.

Hav

Have I said it's an English thing? Seriously chill.

I answered a bloody hypothetical question..
Then why say "I know I'm not English but..." then reference three things in the English game.

You're obviously inferring that it's an English thing and you're doing in a round about way then patronising me by telling me to chill.

Dude, if you want to be xenophobic, firstly, be more courageous than using implication, and secondly, expect to be called out on it.

He really didn't impress last night, but I expect he'll start sunday. Just didn't offer enough going forward, didn't link the forwards and midfield.
Of course he'll start. Southgate has his favourites and he'll go out on his sword knowing he's the 2nd most successful manager we've had despite what is on offer if he's brave.

The final is there for you guys to pick it. Italy defender cannot cope with your explosive players. But if you give players like Chiesa and Insigne the space Denmark had in the first hald outside the box, they will punish you, also because Pickford has some problems defending long range shots.

This is winnable for sure.

It's at Wembley so England have the home advantage. The Italians have looked leggy the last couple of games and Chiellini is getting up there in age so need Sterling and Saka to run rings around him. With Spinazolla missing, Emerson is a weak link and can be exploited. The midfield battle will be tough. But the big weapon is the bench for England. They can really bring in players that will run at a tired Italy and that's the best hope. If that fails, just start diving and whip out them laser pens.

At least any low-reservoir concerns will be resolved by the copious amount of tears shed should England lose on Sunday.

I think we will win to be honest. Even though Italy are better than Spain, I wanted Italy to win as I think their style suits us more.

It will be a very close game though i'd imagine. I'm hoping Sancho and Grealish start. I thought Sancho was great against the Ukraine and Mount has been very underwhelming all tournament.

Hard to call.
Both teams are capable of winning.

I just hope the cnuts that booed England off after Scotland are getting slaughtered.

Hard to predict this one. England had a relatively easy route to the final but still had to play Croatia and Germany and beat both of them quite comfortably. Italy on the other hand had the harder games on paper and looked really really good against Belgium team but a little less convincing against Spain. Really looking forward to the game. Still need to decide who to put my money on.

Xenophobic card now at play. Always works.

But. And here is my biggest worry. That midfield of rice and Phillips on the ball is a million miles away from spains who kept the ball from Italy. Up until Denmark gassed they were getting passed around by Denmark
It’s a weird one but I’d actually be tempted to chuck Henderson in. He at least has experience at the highest level of European footy, and I do think he’s better than Rice/Phillips when fit

Have a feeling 80%+ of people outside England will be supporting Italy.:lol:

Probably. Witnessing some Leeds fans here on vacation in Greece during a public viewing almost made me turn too haha. And I've always had a soft spot for England and with the United players involved I'd always root for them. But the arrogance shown by some is almost Germanish :smirk:

They played very well on 2012, which is forgotten because they lost 4-0 in the Final.
They had good passages of Football in 1994 WC with Roberto Baggio, and overwhelmed France in the first half of Euro 2000 final, with Del Piero missing what would have been the 2-0 to make the comeback harder for France... constantly forgotten because France made a comeback in the last minutes.

I think this the biggest thing that make peoole dislike them. Acting like absolute pigs everytime they go abroad. And they they have the cheek to call out the Scots doing just that when in England.

Am I the only person who feels like they’re waiting for Mason Mount to actually do something?

He’s tidy enough, but he’s also (currently) a #10 who isn’t scoring or assisting. He needs a big final.

Italy have an extra day rest. And last night was a pretty tough physical and mental challenge.
The coaching staff will need to work hard to ensure our players still feel strong and fast.
And I am expecting a very tight and tactical game. Chances will be hard one and have to be taken.
Going to be extremely tough.

Nope, I'm the same.

Thing is Mount usually does turn up just when you're doubting him, so he probably will in the final. That's the virtue of playing in every game at AM, and taking every set-piece, eventually you will do something.

 yeah agreed. But it's completely different when you visit the country I feel. Was hosted by a family in Cambridge for a few months many years ago and they were the most heartfelt and nice people I've ever met. Bless them. Was the same whenever I went to England. Always very down to earth and nice people. My standards aren't high mind. Coming from Austria where the unfriendliest people in the world live

We get one lucky penalty and suddenly we rely purely on having UEFA in our back pocket and the refs are totally bent in our favour  RAWK level shite, how can some of you not be totally embarrassed.

Kane should have had a penalty before that anyways. That foul that went against him was dodgy as hell.

Did you hear him after the Germany game? He knew if England lost that he would have been in real trouble because there were a lot of question marks over the team selection.

The one thing we should know about Gareth by now is that he does what he believes is enough to win and he's brave because he picks the side accordingly opposed to swaying along with public perception.

Mount starts for teams because managers trust him over bigger names. It's obviously because he offers things others don't. Unfashionable I know, but maybe he's smarter with his defensive output and productivity than anyone at Chelsea or England in the same position while still being decent going forward?

It's fine inside England, true. Good people. Maybe it's good that they play all the games at Wembley then.

It's not every time though is it, it's the usual thick ignorant types who are despised in this country going to usually places in Europe and continuing to be thick ignorant pigs. The people who act up abroad, 9/10 are the types who act up at home and are awful cretins. To say all English people are like that is just....silly.

Put Sterling on Emerson and tell him run at him at every opportunity. Maehle has been one of the stars of the tournament, and Sterling had him on toast every single time. He's creeping into player of the tournament territory for me.
He's absolutely vital in the final.

Even a big percentage of foreigners who live in England will support Italy. What ever the season is, people don’t like England national team.

because the press and pundits constantly suggest England have a rightful place in the latter stages of tournaments when history says the opposite. Even Neville pre tournament said English fans expect as they are used to seeing such. Beggars belief really.
