Final: Italy vs England

I thought the bitterness and dislike towards England was bad enough when we were crap, now we're alright it's gone to a whole other level.

I find it all a bit silly to be honest.

I think its worse when the same folk with either go back to supporting all these Utd players in a few weeks, or will then carry on hating them making for more lovely toxicity.

If you spoke to a typical English fan as a noob, you'll get the feeling they are probably the best team of the last 50 years. You'll be disappointed to find out that they've only won the world cup once, and are in their first final since then and they mouth of like they are some Brazil or France. Pipe down!

Seem triggered?

Not good enough: you should raise to "Never eat pizza again".

My boycotts can only go so far and I’m not a big enough man for that. Mario will be getting absolutely dashed on mario kart though. Green shell the bastardio off the edge of the rainbow road over and over again.

Please, never say we are like the French ever again. *shudders*

Hope you don't spare Luigi either, that useless bastard AKA as green Mario by some people.

No it's as real as it gets. I wished England lost after all the theatrics yesterday. Disgusting fans booing the Denmark anthem and the team all through the game, a team that has had to lose their top player and were on one leg all tournament. English players diving all over the pitch and giving Spain a run for their money. Fans pointing lasers at the opposition keeper's eyes, what next? Bribe the ref for the final, poison Italy players. I am sure you'll get away with these if you tried them and win the Euros. Congratulations. Just like Liverpool, you'll remain unworthy winners. Your home advantage got you through in one of the most poorly organized tournaments ever.

World Cup 2018 was the real eye opener for me.

How fecking bitter and desperate people were for England to fail. So all this doesn't surprise me anymore.

Jesus Christ, I knew people who were intelligent perfectly rational people and then you'd bring up Utd and they'd lose their minds about how bent we were and Fergie pays of the refs and all that shit.

It's genuinely the same with England.

I think for non English fans who support united it’s more about not being able to celebrate Sterling, Henderson, Stones, etc.

The silver lining for me will be Maguire and Shaw had a really good tournament.

It's part of the hypocrisy.

Why is Gareth in quotation marks?

Because he's a wee jobbie.

Being annoyed at a teams fans booing the opposition during a game  good grief I thought we'd seen the worst of it, but now we've sunk to a new low. Impressive waffle.

I certainly had that many times watching England to be fair. Wanting to see Terry, Gerrard etc. do well felt very odd. I find this group really likeable though maybe in comparison but also just in general, even those from our rivals. Henderson isn't even that bad if he promises to never do that horrific shuffle thing.

Actually I've been more aware of the opposite problem this time around, at least based on the posters on the caf.

They actually have one of the best squads in the tournament, while also having an easy run of games to the final and a lot of games (including the final) at Wembley. They were rightly among the favourites before the tournament started and have better players than every team they've beaten so far. And they have better players than Italy in quite a number of positions too. This time (unlike several others, including the last WC) they should be thinking they're going to win the tournament.

Yet (because of their history of failures) I think in a lot of cases they've been overly generous in their tolerance for some of the decisions Southgate has made, simply because they're actually progressing past these teams they're already better than. Decisions like benching Shaw for Trippier, starting Grealish on the bench and persisting with a Rice/Phillips midfield that doesn't work has hindered them far more than it helped. You could possibly add more marginal calls into the mix too, like Sancho barely featuring. But because they're happy to be where they are, they're not as quick to see that they have the potential to be better than this under a better manager.

If Italy are better than them in the final it isn't going to be because they have a better squad of players, because they really don't. It'll be because their manager has done more with his collection of players than Southgate has with his, despite England having progressed to the final.

Very good post.

Now stop making sense. It's open season on the English!

Just a hunch, but I don't think you've ever actually done this and have created a narrative due to experiences on the internet.

Yup, this is true. Never want to see any non United players do well. With Rashford, Sancho not even getting a look in. Got no reason to hope for England to win.

Only positives are Shaw showing on the European stage that he is one of the best and Maguire having a great tournament.

This is so far from the truth, it's like you're trying to get it wrong on purpose.

English people love nothing more than moaning about the weather and the national team.

———-————Kane———————
Rashford——Foden——-Sterling
————Phillips—-Rice—————
Shaw-Maguire-Stones-Walker
——————Pickford——————

I really believe we should play this and get Rashford and Sterling to make runs behind those two big fat stalwarts.

Grealish, Henderson, Saka, Mount, Sancho in reserve.

seriously?! I always feel the English aren’t cocky enough. I don’t think others get the tongue in cheek it’s coming home...it’s like they didn’t quite understand the sarcasm.

What next? Bribe the ref for the final?

-------------Kane----
Sterling-Mount-Saka
-------Rice--Henderson---
Shaw-Maguire-Stones-Walker
---------Pickford---------------

Saka is the best complement to Kane and Sterling because he is an all-rounder - he can run behind the defense when Kane drops, he can also progress the ball up the pitch via both carries and combination play to help the crap midfield, and he is willing to put in the work defensively. Several of the other options are better at one or two of those things but none really tick all the boxes in the same way.

Mount is just a really smart and tidy player who can help provide solutions in ball progression, which England are going to need. He also is the side's best right footed set piece taker (assuming Trippier isn't playing) and opportunities off set pieces could be decisive in a cagey match.

Henderson needs to come into the side to provide a little bit of threat in the middle and help the team better retain possession against a very technical Italy midfield. He made a big difference against Denmark. I trust Rice more than Phillips as the holder beside him.

Not that difficult to understand. You have people from England who do not like your football team.

More than the team, the fans and the media make the team very unlikable.

It will go through the roof if England win anything. Here's for Italy to win.
If it’s not the Euros I’d say England have a good shit at the WC next year too, but this is a bigger chance being at Wembley etc.

the only way I could understand the Liverpool comparison would be if say 4 of Utds first team also played for them.
