Final - Germany vs. Argentina

Dunno what to say. If you look at the tournament as a whole we probably deserved it easily, but I felt like Argentina were the better team tonight. On the other hand one or even two (mascherano + Kun?!) of them should have seen their second yellow in extra time.
I have never seen so many people on the streets, let alone on a sunday night - however for me the whole buzz was gone after Götze's goal, I never imagined winning the thing would feel so 'business as usual'.
Messi being selected as best player of the tournament was a farce.

I'm 99% sure that the Höwedes didn't intend to hit the Argentinian guy as nasty as he did (he's actually a very fair player imo), but if you just look at the foul I wouldn't have complained if he got a red card.

I think the Neuer vs Higuain situation was 50/50. He gets to the ball first but he also hits his opponent in a quite brutal way. Depending on the philosophy of the ref either throw in for Arg or penalty is okay. Free kick for Germany was a joke.

The Kramer thing was an accident imo. The ARG player just went for the ball and Kramer charged into the situation without seein him.

"It's to protect themselves". How the fcuk is Higuain supposed to protect himself? It doesn't matter why Neuer done it. I don't think he was trying to harm Higuain but that, again, is irrelevant.

Higuain saw the GK charging to the ball, he should have backed away if he wanted to protect himself. He wanted to be a hero. The ref was right.

And why don't you mention Garay, that was worse, Kramer was concussed and had to leave after only 30 mins. It was also in the pk area. If Neuer was a pk, so was Garay.

So only goalkeepers have a right to go for the ball now? What a load of shit.

Thoroughly delighted that Germany are World Cup champions. And of all people, it is Götze who scores the winner. Absolutely ecstatic with this, please recall that back in the 2010/2011 season, I created a thread dedicated to Götze after becoming awestruck by this young superstar when he was just an 18 year old prodigious talent at Borussia Dortmund. And look at him now, living the dream.

The point I am failing to make is that GoalKeepers practce this endlessly so it becomes an instinctive movement to raise their knee when going for the ball. The difference between a GK and an outfield player in these situations is that if a GK is using both hands to compete for the ball they dont have any means of protection of vital areas whereas an outfield player still has the ability to use a hand or arm to protect themselves. So the question is, did Neuer intentionally try and knee Higuain?.

Cheers for the link but I know what a straw man argument is already. Why should Higuaín back away just because he sees Neuer coming? He goes to win the ball, Neuer gets there first but still fouls him. You'd have to be a bit simple to think otherwise.

Yes, you've posted that already. It doesn't make any sense, if a player x dives in two footed on player y would you blame player y for having his leg snapped in two when he was trying to get the ball? He could have backed away, after all. You're making yourself look like a bit of a clown here.

Neuer was only protecting himself.

Laughable that so many pity higuain, yet if Neuer did not lift his knee, Higuain would had charged with his head right into Neuer's stomach, possibly causing a very nasty injury.

LOL who's talking about clowns.

Only a clown would not understand that, if Neuer did not lift his knee, Higuain would had charged with his head right into Neuer's stomach, possibly causing a very nasty injury.

Neuer was doing what is instinctive when going up for a high ball which is to raise the knee. the reason its instinctive is because every GK coach in the world teaches from roughly 12 yrs old an up to raise the leg/knee when going up for a high ball. Its text book stuff. The trouble is where does the line get drawn with respect to it being a dangerous bit of play during certain moments in games.

Right, so Neuer is allowed to risk causing a nasty injury to Higuaín in order to protect himself? He should just back away and stop trying to be brave.

Think I'm done here, take care.

Class!

Tbh Schweinsteiger just has too much experience in losing finals. Whatever cruel fate the gods of football decide to infclict upon a player Schweinsteiger knows how it feels.

So Higuain is allowed to cause a nasty injury to Neuer ? He had no chance to get to the ball before Neuer. Neuer played the ball, Higuain did not. The ref was right.

Both collisions were completely different. Kramer's was innocuous (and unfortunate). Neuer's was reckless.

this! higuains cheek bone hitting against neuer's knee was too much

it was a foul and deserved a red card

i blame the ref

No, I don't think so. But I don't think that matters much. The referee's job isn't to decide whether or not a foul was intentional. He's out there to protect the players and call a foul a foul. The fact he actually gave a free kick to Neuer is an absolute joke.

That's only because you choose to look at them that way. Neuer reckless LOL. What was he supposed to do, let Higuain charge with his head straight into his vital organs?

Which is why I'm more happy for him than for anybody else. He has put down tonight the performance of his life and he got rewarded with the cup and with all the recognition of his teammates. Still, the German media hates him, because he decided at some point that he doesn't want to be their toy anymore.

Explain?

He was the fan's favorite, part of the "Schweini & Poldi" boygroup about 10 years ago. That sold newspapers. But while Lucas never really grew up, Schweinsteiger decided to become a leader. And he turned down every further media enquiry. Then they (the tabloids) started trying to get him down, for many years now. Whenever he was injured they always tried to write him off. But he succeeded.

I might be slagged off for this, hopefully not, but Messi did not deserve to win best player of the tournament award. He wasn't the best player in this WC. Regardless of Germany winning or not, it had to be a German player for me. A few players were more deserving of this than him, surely.

Anyway, quite chuffed for the Germans. Players like Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Klose, Podolski and others deserved winning a major tournament after all they've been through.

That is why this photo after the match was so telling. The Bayern fans know. Lahm joined in later. I remember that after the won CL final in 2013 Müller went out into the media zone with Schweinsteiger and Lahm behind him who often were critisized of not being leaders by the press singing and shouting loud - that are the leaders that are told not to be leaders...

Was that on TV? In that case I can see it tomorrow as I have taped it. I was out with friends. I'm so glad for the guy. I don't know how much he has left in his tank, but tonight he gave it all.

May I just say... Jaaaaaaaaaaaa WELTMEISTER!!!

Man this is such a great feeling and something I have had the luck to experience for the second time after the win of 1990.

I'm drunk as feck but thanks to my boss I have a day off tomorrow. Well I guess that two thirds of our team would have been useless after a win anyways.

Oh and let me say I'm so happy for Klose that he got his WC win at the age of 36. And of course Schweinsteiger and Lahm from whom this might have been the last WC at their prime as well.

Yeah, because that's what would've happened...

I don't give a damn about this "that's what keepers are taught to do" BS. If a defender comes charging into the side of an attacker, leading with his knee, at jaw height, and completely fcuking lays him out it's a stonewall foul every day of the week.

Get over it. That's the GK's exemption of the rule. Tonight, tomorrow, at any time and everywhere. And it is good that it is that way.

Was he a big game player back when he cost Argentina in the last international tournament he played?

I'd say so. Not clear cut but I'd lean towards red, a lunge straight to the knee...

No but perhaps Aguero should not have played this World Cup. He was not fit at all and it was painfully obvious.
