Final - Germany vs. Argentina

I know it's only football, and not the wars - but people will have lost relatives fighting
Surely you can see the problem with linking Germany and taking over the world in such a way

EDIT
And thanks for deleting

It is a football forum. I have met a lot people that have been directly involved with the war as I am old enough to do that - and I do not know anybody that would be offended by it especially as it was clearly about football. But - I deleted it. Even if I still think that was a lot overboard on the other side. It is like not saying the word "car" anymore because somebody has an uncle who had an uncle that has died in a car crash 10 years ago.

Now you're being facetious
I think I'm done with this, if you really can't see the problem with that cartoon - beyond that fact that it wasn't funny - then we're done

i really dont understand why are you all that outraged

i'm going to close this thread for a moment and ask the other mods what they think

but imo Blackwidow has done nothing wrong and her username is just the name of a spider, so i cant see how is that racist

It's just one of Feeky's "hilarious" windups. If I see you pull that shit again Feeky, I'm banning you and whoever else you ring into it for 24 hours.

Hilarious, but also uncool chaps.

Why distress another poster like that? Bullying imo.

Germany haven't faced someone of world class quality defensively down the middle. Can't see Kroos, Khedira or Schweinsteiger man marking Messi for 90 minutes. None of them are of a Mascherano or De Jong mould of 'sitting' on him the whole game.

Argentina 2-1.

The beautiful game of football will not include the host Brazil, but that doesn’t mean that this will be boring final. In fact, I am sure that this will be a final to be remembered.

Looking back to the start of this World Cup, it seems that anyone could predict that Argentina and Germany will meet in the final, but that was not an easy task for them. Argentina had to be victorious over the great team of Netherlands, and not everyone can do that. After the 7-1 victory over Brazil, Germany does not lack confidence, but this big result shouldn’t be taken for granted, as it can mean nothing if the Germans don’t repeat their performance again.

Both nations have top players capable of winning big trophies, and motivation can be decisive factor in this final. Lionel Messi can easily make the difference on the pitch. In the match against Netherlands where the Argentinians went to penalty shootout, we saw that Havier Mascherano has the ability to motivate his teammates.

Tactically, both nations are consistent with very few changes made, and considering their road to the final, Germany has the obvious advantage. The aggressiveness of the midfielders can put huge pressure on any team, and that is not coincidence having in mind how successful these individuals are with their clubs, especially Bayer Munich. It will be extremely difficult for the Argentina’s defenders to keep their heads cool and give the opposition as little chances as possible, and I think that is the biggest weakness they have.

Joachim Low hasn’t got any injured players, as Mats Hummels has fully recovered. On the other side, injured Angel Di Maria is not yet ruled out of the World Cup final, so this would obviously not the best that Argentina can offer. Having said that, I believe Germany will win this year’s World Cup.

After all, this game might not be the biggest game in this World Cup, and if I had to pick my favorite team, after that 7-1 victory over the host Brazil, that definitely will be Germany.

Haha... they did it already a lot of times.

Germany will win that game.

Germany : Argentina 4:0, like the last time.

Germany 0:1 Argentina - Garay from a corner early in the match
Mind-numbingly boring match with Messi completely anonymous. This German team officially proclaimed 'generation of bottlers'.

I usually don't post, but I felt the urge to chime in with a massive  at the cartoon extravaganza.

Germany have already made the same mistake Holland did by saying Germany have a 'special' plan for Messi.

I hope Di Maria is match fit, cause they'll exploit the spaces their midfield spends trying to keep Messi quiet.

Got any quotes about that? Not doubting you just hadn't heard them myself.

Assuming Löw goes with the same 11 again Schweinsteiger is going to have a big job on him tracking Messi considering Khedira has always struggled to contain him. I think Germany would be better suited just playing their natural game and hoping that Argentina don't see enough of the ball to get Messi into the game.

Has Messi scored in the holland-game in 120min? :smirk:

He might have meant Holland focused so much on Messi that they ended up starving their forwards of service? It's a valid criticism in my view, Holland destroyed Argentina's chances of scoring but destroyed their own too.

Argentina 2-1.

If there's one thing Germany have down to an artform, it's taking a particular person out of the game. They've demonstrated it again and again. As shaky as they may seem, if there is a team with a Ronaldo or a Messi, those guys are not going to have a fun game and the team can't rely on them changing the game for them.

And they do so without sacrificing much in return.

mate, i´m delighted, we are playing the final game at the maracana stadium, we are going to come ahead of brazil at their home

what my team did is beautiful, epic! and unless we lose 15-0 nothing will be worse than brazil losing 7-1 at home and watching argentina play for the cup

but i must admit that germany has a team a lot better than ours

it's just a fact that i cant deny
Okay, I'm gonna try now to lift your battered Argentinian spirit a little bit (or rather snuffing out the anti-jinx in you;)), doing it the good old fashioned way by comparing the individual team strength and a few other minor factors:

Neuer - Romero: Let's not kid ourselves, big advantage Germany (at least if Neuer is not "doing the Kahn" on Sunday:smirk:)
Lahm - Zabaleta: One more advantage Germany
Boateng - Demichelis: Pretty much even, I would say
Hummels - Garay: Pretty much even, I would say
Höwedes - Rojo: Pretty much even, maybe slight advantage Argentina
Schweinsteiger - Mascherano: Pretty much even, maybe slight advantage Argentina
Khedira - Biglia: Slight advantage Germany
Kroos - Perez: Slight advantage Germany, but may be in for a surprise here
Müller - Lavezzi: Advantage Germany
Özil - Messi: Duel of the 2 anti-fighters/anti-runners, in the end advantage Argentina
Klose - Higuain: Pretty much even, I would say

Löw - Sabella: Slight advantage Germany (okay, if one would factor in the sex-appeal, it would be a rather gigantic one....:D)

Fan support in the Maracana: (Most probably) slight advantage Argentina

Referee: (Italian) Joker (man)

So you see, in the end, we might probably still end up with a slight advantage Germany, but no reason whatsoever to bury your head in the (Copacabana) sand.....and by the way, I didn't even consider here the Di Maria unknown + the "cojones-factor" (always important with Southamerican teams!:D)

Bold: Last one I'm not sure about at all. There will be plenty of Brazilians in the crowd - and they will NOT support Argentina. Same goes for the majority of the neutrals, I'd say.

First one: Hm. Debatable. Not that I consider Sabella a brilliant manager. But I have greater doubts about Löw's ability to tactically impact the match should the Germans find themselves in trouble.

The rest I agree with - nicely summed up, I think.

The big X factor - apart from Di Maria - is obviously Messi. If he turns up properly the advantage becomes significant all of a sudden.

Kroos is far better then perez, who is a good player but let's not kid ourselves here. Mascherano has been terrific as well but schweinsteiger is again just a better player, just hasn't been fully fit. Also Hummels is by far the best center back on the pitch, and boating>demichellis... Other then that I'd agree.

Though you're also understating the messi impact. Don't think there is any contest between the two squads overall, Germany has better individuals in every position pretty much apart from striker, and then Lionel messi, except the messi thing is Argentina's only hope, regardless of how little he works off the ball.

Getting more nervous every day :nervous:. I'll probably bite my nails all day tomorrow until the fecking game starts.

Oh and Demichelis and Boateng even? Really?

Really? The Arsenal players are not playing apart from Özil... ;)

I see a bunch of guys that have been in a CL final 3 times in 5 years and one it the last season. That have won a national double and the treble the season before - and have broken a lot of old records on their way...

Müller has only lost one competitive match with the national team that he started in - his second match against Serbia in 2010 when Klose got a red card. It was the only match without goals of Germany, too...

Personally I think that game shouldn't count. Löw subbed him off for Marko fecking Marin. It's so surreal, it simply can't be true. I happily live in denial here.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is about that picture? Geez, there is much, much worse going around on every other website when Germany is involved in anything.

the pic is just a caricature about pinky&brain

dunno why it should be racism or somethink in this direction

To be fair, back in 2010 I considered Marin to be a better performer than Müller and I wasn't alone with that oppinion. A lot of people wanted him to start instead of Podolski. As it turns out, Löw made the right choice there, but back then Marin had already proven himself over several seasons and was a more accomplished player than the likes of Müller, who by this point only had a couple of months of professional football in his resume. Don't let his current standing fool you, Marin used to be a huge talent.

When you don't know, why something about Germans taking over the world could be considered controversial, then go and hit the history books. Maybe not the most appropriate cartoon in the world, but I personally don't think it's offensive and the outrage on here is of course way over the top.

I want Germany to win as I feel they have been the better team throughout the competition and have been coming so close yet losing out on winning trophies since 2002 so I feel it is about time they won one. I said before that if they don't win tomorrow that they will feel cursed. Hopefully bayerns recent success will give them the confidence, mental strength and edge they need to win the final. I have a feeling argentina will win though.

Can we just cnu.t.new with the football discussion of how Germany are not as majestic as the final result against a piss poor Brazillian performance..

Such discussions should be eliminated from a football forum and let the Mods(clique) do their thing..

Both teams have been solid in different ways but Argentina have been test more often than the Germans in this tournament...

It might also be worthy of note that the German team has WAY more big match experience than the Argentinian team. The only player in the starting eleven that hasn't played in at least one major international final is Höwedes. In addition, all those players have played in at least the Champions League semis, with only Höwedes and Özil (funnily enough) missing out on the final so far. In the entire squad there are only eight players (Zieler, Durm, Ginter, Höwedes, Mustafi, Draxler, Kramer, Schürrle) who haven't played in the final of a big international competition and most of them are still very young.
Without checking thoroughly the only players in the Argentinian squad that really have big match experience are Garay, Demichelis, Mascherano, di Maria, Sosa (, well he did play the Champions League final this year, so I guess I have to include him) and Messi. That could be a big advantage for the Germans.

Neither team has been fully convincing in all of their games and Argentina dont speak portuguese, so i see the game going either way. Home advantage should go to Germany, the neutral latinamerican chap will never root for Argentina and i doubt theres a team brazilians hate more than Argentina.

The result against Brazil could give a false sense of security to the Germans, but lets not kid ourselves, any Argenitinian defender whitout a leg is still a better defender than David Luiz (i do believe he would make a terrific centre forwad, or at least better than Fred), and the brazilians took a day off for the semifinal, it will not happen whit Argentina. As was said before the Germans have 2 options:
  • Play their game and treat Messi like they would any other player, trying to win the game whit their strenghts and not weakening the oposition. This way of playing would give us the best game, but it could be a dangerous bet for Germany but i believe they have the defenders to pull this out unlike Holland.
  • Block Messi from the game whit a permanent marker and 4 man mark every time he touches the ball, like Holland did. Yes this will probably destroy the argentinian game, but also will destroy the german one, it was pretty evident in the Holland game that the directive was this (when Classie came in it became obvious, if Messi moved he would go mark him even when Holland had the ball).
Either way the key of the game should be Messi and it will be a very close game, dont be surprised if this goes to penalties.
