Was absolutely dreading the possibility of a Germany vs. Argentina final, the 1990 final was dire, and given the way Argentina have played for much of this tournament I'm not anticipating anything other than 1-0 either way at best. I can't help but hate both teams for whatever reason, the German NT always come off as a little soulless, and Argentina... well they need no explanation. I think I'll root for Germany, they've been involved in some cracking games (Ghana, Algeria, Brazil), and they're the only truly great team that didn't self-implode in the group stages (like England and Spain).

Truer words have rarely been spoken. It is understandable to a certain degree, because a lot of that bunch are still very young and it can be hard to put different generations in context when you have not seen them live. I´m personally at fault at overrating the current generation from time to time in comparision to say the 80ies, because it feels so strong to what we had a decade ago.
We overarchived in terms of results in 2002, 2006 and 2008 because of various reasons. Even 2010 was a surprise to many. It was not until 2012, when we were a rightful favourite based on squad strength for the first time since 1996. By then the deep rooted and expensive changes in the youth development and education of coaches as result to the dire period we had prior to that took real effects. This could be seen on Club level with the fantastic sides of Klopp, Heynckes and Guardiola, which were all built around strong German cores and as logical result in the national team.
Now we come to the point, where we have the strongest squad in the world even without world class players like Reus and Gündogan or players close to that like Badstuber or the Bender twins.

They certainly didn't play well. Neither did they against France. As for Argentina, yes of course they struggled when Sabella wants to keep his side as solid defensively as possible. I haven't said anything otherwise, but I still think that Germany will have a hard time to break down the Argentine defence. That doesn't mean that they won't win it, but it will be a tight game. For Argentina to win, they need one hell of a performance from Messi.
IMO, people seem to be blinded by Germany's bashing of Brazil. Of course it was brilliant performance from the Germans, but that must also have been the worst game Brazil has ever played. Taking all their other games into account, they haven't been all that impressive all around. People may be in for a surprise this weekend.

It's one thing to be realistic, but if your players would only share a tenth of your (rather defeatist) attitude, they should not even bother to show up for the game on Sunday....why not just lay down, surrender and hand it over to the Germans?

what my team did is beautiful, epic! and unless we lose 15-0 nothing will be worse than brazil losing 7-1 at home and watching argentina play for the cup

Will Löw put anyone on Messi? LVG clearly wanted to neutralize him as much as possible. I have a feeling Messi will find Germany a better suited opponent than Holland was. Could be entirely wrong, of course.
