Sometimes I see teams that are just purely Liverpool players, or one guy had a whole team of French players. What's the point of that? Why not just play a different game mode with France?

You get the in form players of them and play in the only mode that EA really work on and have a goal to play towards instead of just a random game (I'd imagine). Plus doesn't hurt that they now have legends in that you can put in. I always run 2 teams, one mainly United but now with Giggs/Scholes/Keane you can build towards adding those in.
So I was planning on not buying this at all, and ummm was checking through my email and saw something about 30% off of it due to loyalty, so I investigated and turns out I got a further 10% off so it cost me £35. Damn you EA, but just in case anyone else hasn’t bought it yet and is planning to check your email.

Haven't touched UT in years mind, got fed up with it and the work required when there's 10 year olds with squads of 99 IF players. Is there years any better? How much work is required to get a 'decent' squad?

A decent squad doesn’t seem to be enough this year, from what I’ve been hearing from friends and online
,it’s more unbalanced than it’s ever been and you need a squad worth hundreds of coins to compete. At least in previous years you could beat the shit players even with those super squads. Now it’s gone full pay to win.
So I either have to pay out the nose, or lose hundreds of matches, in order to get close to competitive?
Yeah I might skip it again this year and stick to Seasons, friends and pro clubs. Is there a redcafe pro club this year?

Looking at a new RW to upgrade 84 Bernardo. I like him but I've seen his 86 card isn't going for much so considering upgrading. It's between that and 84 Willian. Any opinions? I don't think pace matters as much so I'm leaning towards Bernardo.
Secondly, I'm playing a 424 with Matic and Fred in midfield... I'm wondering if it's worth getting Dembele and going to 3 in midfield. What formations are recommended with 3 in midfield? I want it to be attacking as I'm enjoying the 424.

I've seen so many people using that 424. Looks like it shouldn't work at all but it's a fecking nightmare to play against
I saw it mentioned on here so tried it and it's great. Only problem is I only play squad battles at the moment whilst I improve my team. It works well against the AI that parks the bus as you can create chances for fun. Fred is amazing on it, easily my best buy. He's a machine and is great going forward and in defence. Much, much better than his stats suggest. Him and Matic just about cover in midfield, but I think it'll get overun when I start playing Rivals or whatever it's called against other players.I've been using 442 since the game came out and online it's been mostly fine. Very rarely feel exposed because of the formation, normally very balanced. 424 is a bit more extreme but functionally the wingers are still attacking and your 2 mids are sitting in front of the defence, so probably not a huge difference.
The only decent formation with 3 midfielders is 4321 imo. It’s a formation that works if you’re playing a bit yolo, and you’d have to test different tactics/player instructions in order to get it to work. Several pro players have turned towards that formation lately because it’s perfectly suited for providing the forwards with opportunities to score timed finesse shots around the edge of the box which is the most reliable shot in this game. I used it for the majority of fifa 18 and in the first few weeks of fifa 19, but it doesn’t work for me at the moment.
It’s a great formation for attacking / counter-attacking because of the three ‘strikers’. It’s also very solid in midfield if you have the right players (preferrably three defensively orientated midfielders with a lot of presence). Having the sidebacks on overlap provides som needed width, but it can unbalance the formation and leave the defense vulnerable so I’m not sure if it’s going to be the best solution. It probably depends on your opponent. If you’re up against someone playing very narrow you could press d-pad down (or is it up?) and instruct the sidebacks to push up, that would probably be the best idea.
One could argue that the 4231 has three midfielders, and it’s one of the two formations I’m using at the moment. It’s very balanced and it’s probably the most popular formation among pros. Keep in mind that whichever way you line up your team on the default formation, you can change everything by simply changing mentality in game, I assume you know that.
4-3-3(4) can work if you have a hell of a CAM and you love to dribble on the wings, but it’s just simply not one of the best formations. The other 4-3-3 formations only have one striker and no attacking mids which makes it too difficult to create chances. Not enough players in shooting positions around the box.
Ive been playing 451 with both fullbacks on support and the CM on support. I’ve been much better defensively and created plenty of chances. If only my finishing was better and all round passing game slightly more accurate. I battered one guy with 20 shots but still needed a 94th min equaliser to finish 1-1.

I'm gonna delve into my tactics and take a look, but it's weird, he holds the ball up well, but sometimes when I get it wide, I look at potentially getting it to him but as some of my CAMs have got into the box he then decides to hover just outside it, so I'm gonna tell my players to hang back and see if that pulls him in.

I tend to play 433 but in reality I play it as say 2323 and switch my fullbacks to wingbacks and make the 2 Attacking midfielders LAM and RAM and tuck the 3 forwards in and make the DM just a CM and tend to find I’ll just walk through people. I rarely ever take a long range shot and if I do it’s a finesse in to the top corner from an angle. The “Henry finish” the amount of times you can just pass the ball across the box and pass it in is remarkable.
I tend to just pass it about until I create the gap and pull someone out then will drill a pass and more often than not I have a free man on the wing coming in at an angle in to space.
Muck about with your settings so your CB’s sit a high line and are aggressive whilst making sure they have decent pace and most the time you won’t concede unless you come across Mbappe(the little p*!ck) why is he so fast.

I decided to try 4-2-4 with players in box set to 1/10 just for fun. I won the game 6-3 against a guy with Neymar, Messi, red inform Mbappe and so on. It was also the game that finally took me to division 2!
The formation worked incredibly well in that game. I know it’s early to comment on that setup after one game, but look at these pictures:

It was so easy to create chances in situations like that, which happened quite frequently. 4v4 with the two strikers unmarked. I’ll definitely keep testing it out.

I cannot do anything correctly.
Every team I play against is fantastic which is odd, but anyway, everyone just seems to defend like gods. Not even the closing down in numbers, just wherever I pass I get beat to the ball, in the final third that is. My team just seems to have no movement, always marked.
My defence opens up without problem though. I could go on and on, but anyway, I'll have a few days off and play black ops

Cheers, sounds like you actually play with similar tactics to what I try. The fullbacks pushing up is really helpful on this FIFA for creating openings.
4321 I've been playing for the last couple of years until this FIFA. I tried it for a few games last week and lost 2 in a row so decided to try the 424 which worked. I will no doubt go back to 4321 again when I can land a third midfielder, hopefully Pogba. Until then I might just stick with what I'm doing because it works ok for squad battles.
Considering going back to a full prem side once I've scraped enough coins together for Pogba. It's either Pogba or Gerrard / Keane. Normally I'd go for Keane regardless but Gerrard's stats are insane!
The last time I used this formation was FIFA 99. I thought FIFA was getting more realistic, no one could use that formation in real life?
Packed IF Lukaku from the preorder packs!!! A cool 430k goes very nice with the 160k I had accumulated through rewards and such.
Swapped out Skriniar for IF Koulibaly, Ghoulam out for Alex Sandro, IF Pellegrini out for Naingollan, and OTW Verdi for Cuadrado (the only swap I am not 100% on yet).
Got 80k left (100k if i go back to Verdi), but the plan is to work up to the 200k needed for OTW Cancelo, I can sell OTW Vrsaljko for ~50k so should have enough by the weekend after rivals and WL rewards Thursday.
Then its just a case of upgrading to better veraions of what I have, as and when they appear

I'd play Gerrard as a DM anyways, it's just when he ends up on the edge of the box I know I've got a lethal long shot to put faith in. I've found that DMs with poor long shots cost me too often.

BPM really paying off again with the CSL dropping, I have over 100 CSL bronzes, some only selling for 200-300 but about 1/3 of them selling for 500-2k.
I just sold all mine for all the league's that have dropped so far made about 80k.
I've got scream Shaqiri that I'm holding onto as well until he gets a pace boost to 90. Should be worth a decent amount then. For example Mandzukic is going for over 300k and Shaqiri is going for 40k due to his pace not being boosted.
Yeah, thats a good idea on Shaq, I wouldn't buy any of them who currently look good as they are crazy money. I'd say Shaqiri's price will hit 300kish if he gets pace and shooting get boosted at the same time.
Yeah that's exactly what I'm waiting for considered buying a few more of them as well, the only risk is if they don't get the pace and shooting boost.
As an aside Busquets CDM card looks scary good with 90 pace.
Got Busquets in a draft last night. He was crazy good for a 200k player, but you'd need to know the scream rota and get rid of him a week ahead of the attribute change to justify the coins or you'd be taking a massive hit.

I'm looking at Caceres. If he gets his defending and physical boosted to 90 he'll be a solid option
