Depends. Some made their money back, others didn't. I spent about 500k on Costa and the best I got along the way was Bakayoko. Weekend League is the best value for money if you're a decent player, and squad battles in the week. Drafts can also be lucrative but they're all performance based. You won't get much if you're shite like me :lol:

Thanks for the advice.. I'm good going forwards like everyone else but shocking defensively. Haven't got to grips with this new defending at all!

Same here. Most of my wins are 5-4 or something, and my losses 5-0. If I play anyone who knows how to defend I've basically lost already since I can't keep them out.

The key is mastering jockeying and not losing positioning with the player you're controlling and using contain (team mate) but I just haven't got the mastery of it and keep just getting dragged out of position. Have no idea how to do standing tackle either as I never had to use it before to be a competent defender in previous fifas

I usually let the AI defend and run back with my midfielders. If I have to switch to the man nearest the ball I hold L2 and X and hope for the best really.
 
Attacking is stupidly over powered on this game tbh. When you watch the better players play on Champions Channel its always at least 10 goals per game, with 7 or so coming from kickoffs. The new faster smoother attacking has made tactical defending pretty much rubbish.

The game either needs to nerf attacking or to allow legacy defending (although I think the latter will solve very little.) Most games I win are with only conceding 1 goal but thats because I'm a silver1/gold3 standard player. If I run into any top players it's simply I score 2, they score 7.
It's not that their defending is great (against a player of their own quality they would concede 4 or 5) its I'm just not good enough to take the opportunities that arise.
I lost 8-6 to a guy who told me he was Elite 1 and he couldn't believe I was struggling to re-qualify (the only game where I actually finished what I created). 8-6 shouldn't be possible really.

Bit of advice I’ve noticed from playing, when you’re on the kit selection it’s a generic player that shows but if they have their socks pulled all the way up or are wearing wristbands, avoid it as every one of my 7 defeats has been against one of those two and it’s been icons galore.

I understand that the game mechanics have dictated that the easy way to defend, but personally when I come up against someone I can visibly see letting the computer do the defending, I love it because I find it ridiculously easy to break down. Keep switching the ball out wide, eventually space opens up in the middle, pass to Ibra, shoot from 20-30 yards with space 9 times out of 10 it’s goal.

I find it so much easier (and less mind numbing) to defend by always controlling the player closest to the ball and never pressing teammate contain as it just draws someone needlessly out of position. Good players exploit that instantly.

Yeah long shots is definitely the weakness of that method. The defenders keep backing off. I'd rather that though than try and defend myself and give the opponent a clear way to goal.
 
So I’ve done the SBC for Henry.....and I have NO regrets.

He cost an absolute fortune but using him is like a cheat code and made fifa fun for me again. Hands down the best card I’ve ever used since FUT 12.

Aye he’s brilliant, his Loan got 61 goals in 20 games for me.
 
Now 16-4. My last loss was absolute bullshit, and i tilted hard. Through on goal with gaston pereiro IF no one near him, he drags it wide. Seemed off to me, i was on his strong foot so i checked the replay and sure enough the trainer arrow pointed directly inside the far post.

My opponent goes down the other end and scores a perfect low driven on Bales weakfoot, that isnt even in the corner. Turned the ps4 off now. Might go back later and try for 9 more wins to get the 50k and 2 100k packs, but at the moment i couldnt care less

He’s well on his way to that for me now. He’s got 25 goals and 7 assists in 12 games :wenger:

I don’t even care He’s untradable, I dont think I’ll need another striker all fifa.

I did it through getting some very lucky pack pulls.

Also by spending real money on fifa points, yeah I’m a fool.
 
Finished on 19 wins. A bit wank but at one point I’d lost like 10 in a row so can’t complain too much.

At least you did better than me. 15 smelly wins with 2 games to spare. Can't be arsed playing them I was so depressed. At least I got 90k with a round to spare in Squad Battles so I can leave the game off tonight.

33 wins for the month so far. Hoping for gold 3 at best.

I managed to upgrade IF Casemiro to PTGS Casemiro with the drop in price last night. La Liga is so cheap

:edit: only annoyance is my team is basically Real Madrid. Might sell Messi and do a French league/player hybrid

:edit2: if I flog Messi, I can get PTGS Mbappe, IF Veratti (swap for Saul), PTGS Dani Alves (swap for Carvahal) and Thiago Silva (swap for Varane) To fulfill chemistry. And still cash in the bank. feck that’s tempting

@Mr Anderson - Sounds like a good side. Nothing wrong with being Real Madrid.

I sold my team and finished Deco last night, got feck all out of the packs so he's cost me the best part of 530k or so. Seems great. Have him in a midfield 3 with Rui Costa and Bakayoko. My midfield plays great. Big issue is instead of feeding Dembele, Mbappe and Martial, they are now feeding Sterling, Son and Musa. Also had to change Bailly and Azpilicueta for Keane and Sanchez but by the end of the week I should have a bit fixed. I figure save my WL and SB rewards and I can build a decent frontline. I'll fix the CB's and GK next week.
 
Finished with 30 wins this weekend, some of my opponents I was getting matched with towards the end were ridiculous - there is definitely a ranked matchmaking as I messaged my last 5 opponents asking what their rank was after our matches and they all between Elite 1 - 3.

TOTY is coming out soon so prices should continue to fall, I'd recommend selling your team Thursday before WL as that's when prices will be at it's highest, imo after that they'll just continue to drop.

It’s supposed to be like that right? I got to 18 wins fairly comfortably and finished up with 10 games remaining, but the last 3 games I played after getting gold 3 were much better opponent.

Yeah I believe so, but there are some people who still claim that the matchmaking is random but it's definitely not - you're matched with people in the same rank as you and/or people with the same predicted rank

I think when you have to wait a while for a game, it starts just matching you with anyone. In divisions I was playing for the div3 title, and absolutely destroyed the guy. Messaged him after and he was division 10. I’m sure it’s the same for ultimate team.

They might have sorted it to some degree though, because when you get a decent win streak on the go it does start taking longer to find people to play.

Still, I can’t believe they haven’t extended it yet. Can only think that all the pros and people who promote their game on YouTube don’t want it extended as it’s their job and they get an advanatage when other really good players (like myself hehe) simply can’t commit that much time to it.

Really?

I found him to be great at the start of the game when dribbling was good. Since they brought back more AI defending it’s been harder to dribble.

I haven't used him but I'd imagine he's still good but can't remember who it was said theres a reason most preferred Bale to him last year and again this. When Ronaldo was on the PES cover strangely Messi was best player in the game. I'll see if I can come across the video on YT but tbh it smells of something EA would do. I'd imagine he's not bad, just bad in comparison to Ronaldo and icons etc.. Would take a better player than me to confirm it though.

Basically Ronaldo plays like there is a much bigger gap in points to messi than there is. Same in 17. Opposite in 16 or 15 and so on.

Ronaldo has been better since 09. There’s no denying that probably because whatever game style you got it will suit him. If you wanna just lump crosses in the box like Fifa 14 then he will be great. Just with over the top through balls he’s got the speed and power to shrug defenders off.

Messi in the last few years has been good. But even when he was on the cover he was very easy to shrug off the ball.
 
Ronaldo’s always been the best in FIFA (overall ratings don’t mean much). He has pace, strength, and a strong shot with either foot which is the formula for a beast in FIFA.
 
Not the best night for me last night. But hopefully it was my team not all loyal to me, I played my last game which was 10 appearances for most. So let’s see if they place any bit better for me

My backline is unreal at interceptions - I’ve never experienced it with my premier league team. Narrowed down chances created against me for sure, but just met Sean fecking Maguire who pinged in goals into the bloody upright. Had a rough night with Messi too.

Packed 80k worth of players in my packs for ultimate edition and last weeks squad battles, so upgraded from IF Neto to PTGS ter Stegen, since Neto isn’t really fantastic bar 1 on 1s. Cheap out, could flog on and maybe go Courtois if he doesn’t work out.

Wouldn’t mind upgrading Saul, But he does break up play along with Casemiro pretty well.

Did they change the rules of DKTs or something ? I just noticed yesterday I only have max 6 players from the same league in the team. That means I'll have to buy and change many things in my team to be able to play and get the chemistry right, but I tried to play in them earlier on few weeks ago and they were permitting anything ?
