Gaming FIFA 17

I'm sorry, they didn't teach me the meaning of peon at Harvard.

Why not just play people online? it's much more varied. Playing the computer is boring.

I find that boring too. It's hard to find games against other manual players (nothing more frustrating than seeing the same repeated abuses of assisted), and then when you do it's more about a combination of luck and out-predicting the other like a faster game of chess. There's nothing tactical or that skilful about it.

That said, Pro Clubs with a team of fully manual players is some of the most fun I've ever had gaming. I wish I could find another group to do that with - it'd turn FIFA into an instant buy for me again, even if EA are neglecting both the mode and manual controls.

I can't play with fully assisted controls anymore it drives me crazy. Granted going from semi to manual is hard to achieve though. Pro clubs seems to have had a revamp this year though by the way.

Good to hear, I'll give it a look after release. Never trust the hype with game releases anymore.

I actually liked this demo better than the pes demo, and I've preferred pes in recent editions. This feels like it has more weight to the players and a more realistic feel. pes seems fast and arcady.

I've played the demo even more tonight against friends and i think it's really good. A lot better than last years.

Even down to little details. One gripe i had last year was that when closing down players, you could be left open too easily if they managed to get past you as there was this annoying thing where your player would take a few extra steps in the direction you were moving before changing direction. Now your players are a lot more responsive and can turn back quicker if needed.

I always imagine Ronaldo trying to get a little more ripped every day to push his strength up from - a completely wrong, if we're honest here - 79 in FIFA.
I think that's about right. He's ripped as hell, but doesn't have that much muscle mass.

So for the journey, they released a video yesterday with more info. Turns out you can pick whatever position you want! Also you have a choice to go out on loan to Villa, norwich or newcastle, while you can go to any of the 20 premier league clubs. So its not as limited as first thought but obviously still room to expand with other leagues and obviously making your own guy instead of it being alex hunter. Definitely think I'll play it a bit though.

Looking forward to immersing myself into the story. I've always been an offline Career Mode/Be A Pro player, so this is right up my street.

Not any position. It's limited to ST, RW, LW and CAM.

You sure? Watching the video it looked like any position was available to choose

From the video:

I think they confirmed that you can only play attacking positions too.

I'm not sure about it. Seems like the same old, with a few tweeks to how it feels and some more interesting runs.
Will probably get it though. That's how it works innit.

Also, as if Rooney's still got that stupid celebration as his default. Well annoying watching him do that after scoring against Norwich or something.

Don't say PES is arcadey in PES thread, you'll get slaughtered.

Seems like in Early Access on Xbox One you will only get to play Ultimate Team and a certain part of Journey. It sucks, I would have expected to play with normal teams.

Just ordered my copy on Tesco Direct - they're running this voucher code until the 25th: TDX-WFRX - which gives you a fiver off any orders over 40.

So got it for 37, with free delivery on release day.

I don't know if I'm excited for the game, or excited to drop Rooney and have a proper United side on my television screen.

Hopefully The Journey mode allows you to replace him in the starting lineup!

After the news that EA Sports decided to skip Iceland from the game! but use instead our viking clap!! I hope this game will be terrible and I will not buy it! Feck off Fifa17!

Hope players can touch eachother inside the box without it being penalty, this year...
And that all fouls aren't yellow card.
If on top of that, the keeper knows that when you run out, then send him back into goal, he doesn't have to wiggle sideways like a monkey, but actually run.... It would be a huge upgrade!

:nervous:

I agree with the keepers running like idiots when bringing them out of goal for a 1v1.

from wiki regarding the journey

The Journey[edit]
The game will feature a new single-player story campaign mode titled The Journey for PS4, Xbox One and Windows[6] where players assume the role of Alex Hunter, a young footballer trying to make his mark in the Premier League.[7] The player will be able to select one of 20 Premier League clubs to play for at the beginning of the season. The player can play any position including goalkeeper.[7] The story mode also features a dialogue wheel, similar to the Mass Effect series.[8]

After quite a lot of games now my thoughts are:

-The AI shouldn't play like they know the direction I'm moving in. They dribble past you constantly because they just predict which way to move and ghost you
-Just making the opposition AI faster doesn't count as increasing the difficulty, it's just frustrating. Luka Modric 80 minutes into a match, ball at feet, with no stamina cannot blitz fully fit Kondogbia in a foot race. Similarly, Lewandoski can't destroy Pepe in a straight sprint when he's carrying the ball. This is just annoying and you do it every time EA
-The opposition AI shouldn't be more intelligent than my team. Opponents can defend competently but unless I control every single player, my team will leave huge gaps and fail to pick up attackers
-Your AI will often fail to attack the ball, they'll stand around blindly instead of gathering a ball they could easily reach first
-I shouldn't tackle the ball off an opponent 8 times in a single piece of play and still not come away with the ball
-Like every year, teams under pressure shouldn't always attempt (or be able to) play the ball out from the back at lightning pace
-The cancel button is totally unresponsive
-Does the AI ever give away a foul, or get punished properly? Okay, sometimes I'll win freekicks but so often the ref will just ignore blatant fouls that I'm called up on
-I don't like the set piece revamp, especially penalties, although that's mostly personal preference.

That said, it's much better than FIFA 16, especially post-update FIFA 16. The demo and early version of 16 was fairly solid but went down hill. This has more weight, and more intelligence. The movement is improved, short passes now work instead of just kicking the ball into your team mates heel and losing possession. The threaded through pass is a nice addition. The physics feel better, the ball hitting the net is great, the animations are nice. There's a few new animations that allow players to control balls and set them up for the shot beautifully. Crossing now works, instead of the ball being kicked out of play every time. The tussling and physical play is solid but needs some refinement since the AI will sometimes turn on god mode and be un-dispossess-able. There's a real danger about counter attacks, and long balls are a respectable tactic depending on the personnel.

I like it, the presentation is spectacular too. I'm expecting it to be about an 8/10 on release, depending on how the game modes handle. It's has a lot of improvements, it looks very good, the commentary and stadium noise should be fairly detailed, etc. It's done nothing ground breaking, unless the Journey is incredible, but it has built on what was done before. My biggest concerns are the above, which are mostly problems that have plagued FIFA for a long time anyway

Icelandic NT is not in the game because our FA felt that the offer from EA was too low. The first time that EA has approached our FA to use our NT.

I wonder what an acceptable amount sounds like.

Poland has done that until recently with our league as well. We didn't sell rights to either FIFA or PES, didn't make sense in the slightest yet such was the state of affairs.

Well I have had a sit down and played a few matches this morning finally.

World class vs Real Madrid = 1-1 they scored in 90th min, but I won on penalties. Had more possession
Legendary vs Bayern = lost 2-1, they scored in the 90th min  Equal possession

I only played Fifa 16 for the first few weeks, so this is me playing after a year out, so quite happy with that, considering what some have been saying on here.
Obviously the real test is online when people find ways to take advantage of the system, so early days, but I am looking forward to this

But this is Iceland, they've never been in a FIFA game before, people haven't cared. Now they've got the chant that has become synonymous with the NT worldwide but not the team because the FA (who btw have plenty of money now after the recent showings at the Euros) are fickle and don't understand marketing.

edit: Have the sum that was offered according to the chief of FA. It was 1 millions ISK or about 7k pounds which is actually a pathetic amount but still a decent fee for the publicity.

Well that's bad

It is but think about the publicity. It's for one game. Now they get no money and no publicity and a lot of angry people who had enough reasons to dislike the chairman to begin with.

I do understand the reasoning though I guess, if the amount of money is as low as you've said, it's quite disrespectful. I'm sure that your FA has got some insight as to how much other NTs earn from the rights and decided to play hardball. I as well do understand that people will be annoyed that there's no Icelandic NT but it seems you guys want to stand your ground, which is fair fecks.

I think they were also annoyed that they didn't ask for the rights to our female NT. Our women's team is quite good, currently winning the Euro qualifiers with 1 game left and no goals conceded and are 16th in the world rankings. People care about equality here and I'm sure that they wouldn't want the feminist outrage of the male team only being included in the game. Everything is scrutinized when it comes to gender.
