Gaming FIFA 17

Just can´t win the ball from opponents on world class. I don´t concede goals but just closing down space and waiting for the opponent to misplace a pass is annoying. And if i actually manage to get into a tackle it is on the sidelines and the ball rolls out of play only for them to keep it anyway.

Literally the worse thing about fifa for years now. Don't really play ai anymore because of it. Can never judge the game until playing against someone.

Welcome to FIFA.

It has been like that for the last 4-5-6 versions. The CPU would rather retain possession than score a goal.

Played a few games last night.

It felt a bit sluggish at first but I gradually got used to it. There's a few nice changes here and there but it didn't really feel like I was using a completely new engine. Drilled shot is nice but I find it difficult to get the time to power in and then press shoot again unless I'm completely open. Not sure how to do these new through balls people are talking about but I did do a nice lofted one to Rashford which would've just been overhit to the keeper on previous iterations.

Crossing seemed weird, couldn't get used to that. Same with corners. I aced the pens though.

Best goals were a belter with Pogba and a flick up and volley with Lewa.

Oh and I played two games of The Journey. Annoying you can't skip the cutscenes. I didn't manage to score but Matic scored a 30 yard own goal which was quite impressive. Martial pissed me off getting in my way so I fouled him about 3 times.

They've removed the rematch option too, which is a pain in the arse having to go back through the menus to play again.

They haven't removed the rematch option, it's just never available in the demos. They always make you go back to the start of the game after each demo.

Nope on the 16 Demo if you pause on 89 minutes you can rematch.

Yeah, why they didn't set it to for instance holding LB+RB / R1+L1 at the same time is beyond me

Oh, really? I didn't know that.

The Journey mode does look like a nice idea in theory but a bit shit in practice. It's never going to have triple A character arcs and developments, so the way to rectify it through a linear forced passage feels a bit silly, and not particularly rewarding. I imagine it'll be a lot like the NBA my career where your performances are pretty immaterial because the plot just continues on its linear passage regardless.

In the cameo the demo offers for instance, one lad called Walker is starting upfront and another comes on from the bench, ahead of Ibrahimovic... Bit loopy but then Rooney and Martial are also on the field, yet the woman in the post match interview says you made the team through injuries to first team players. :D

I think the journey will be just ok in this game, but I definitely see them developing this further in future games. Could become great in a few years.

Yeah I can see it being extremely linear and cheesily written but I'm sure it'll get a lot better. Shame they didn't try and make it a lot better now though instead of just starting with a generic base so they can add improvements next year and market them to shit.

I suppose in a way it replicates having to find a tiny bit of time and space in order to get a shot away, like in real life.

I've seen players have no space and get a powerful snapshot off though.

Maybe it should've been really light quick tap of shoot for a drilled shot as hard as your player can hit it, and anything held slightly longer than that is just the normal shot system.

@Solius - I did that massive list so that those who play FIFA, or FM, if they recognise a few of those academy players will think they were once part of this club in some form. i.e Kenji Gorre was at United, and will play against us vs Northampton

Yeah. Really like the idea of it, but the fact that it's only using "Alex Hunter", you are an english striker and you probably have a small-ish choice of teams to pick from will limit it. I doubt it'll be that tough to add in making your own player from the start, picking position, type of player, nationality, and including other leagues in it. Even if they just have a few different pre sets for families and stuff like that so they can account for different races just for that bit of difference in the story. They'll probably include that (or really should) after this as I'm assuming it's more of a test in the build up to that.

So good potential, but probably pretty plain for right now.

This is one gripe I have with FIFA 17, I don't know if this goal was yours or someone else's, but whoever was playing the game didn't score it. You can see that the guy playing was controlling a different player and Smalling did that automatically. That's happened to me almost every single time I have crossed the ball, like I'll swing it in and I'll be controlling Rooney and Ibra will just tower over me and head it over the bar or something, very unrewarding. Cool goal nonetheless.

Really don't like the new corner/set-piece thing... makes it piss easy. If anything, they should have made it so that every corner isn't guarenteed to beat the first man! So far I've managed to get a header on goal from about 75% of corners...

Also, anyone know if there's a way to shoot from Free Kicks from out wide? There must be a way to switch it off this crosses thing?

Possibly change view like you do from goal kicks?

The limiting of pro clubs is definitely so you can't get a head start. I prefer it if I'm being totally honest. Can never complain about a level playing field.

On the flip side, people will get a head start on FUT. It's swings and roundabouts - they prob want to get people to play FUT as it is a moneypit for them. Some form of Pro clubs, even the pro ranked would be nice.

Played 5 games now and none have been enjoyable. Spent most of the game trying to block off the passing lanes. World Class and Legendary take the piss with their intent on keeping possession. It feels, like previous years, the CPU has an unfair advantage over the user of that it knows what button the user is pressing. This means that the CPU knows where not to pass to when the user is pointing their man that direction to block the lane.

I've seen a lot of comments about the game feeling more arcadey than last year but I've got to disagree. In my opinion it feels more realistic than ever. The one exception is that they have nerfed the pace a bit more, but a couple of patches will no doubt change that (for the worse).

I'm not really one for offline gaming in FIFA, so it probably won't be a big issue for me, but for once I would like EA to create a game where it is fun to play against the CPU's set difficulty, rather than have to fart about with sliders for months to produce an enjoyable football simulation.

Have played both PES AND FIFA demos now and there's only one winner for gameplay, and it's PES, by a distance. FIFA is just slow and samey. I do like the idea of The Journey though. It's what PES should have done with Become A Legend.

I really don't like it when playing against AI, it's just stupid how hard it is to regain possession. But the few games I played against my brother were quite enjoyable.

I'll buy it since it will still be fun for a few weeks/months, and the amount of hours I'll put in will be worth the money.

Yep. I played one game where I only had 30% possession - I just couldn't get the ball back. It was even worse than Fifa 16 where all the teams played like they were Barcelona. I love the career mode but not sure I can play it if its that hard in full game

In other news I see Fosu-Mensah is a CDM in the full game proper - looking forward to trying to him out in Fifa 17. (the demo doesn't have the stats fully updated)

Looks like players still have weird movements in the cut scenes in that vid. It's not a game killer but feck me EA, there's no excuse now.

Seriously considering a new console + this game but I'm hesitating when it comes to the tactical aspect of football as it's something EA has always neglected. Anything promising for this title ?

I don't think they can really make the game reliant on tactics without making it really difficult/annoying. Plus it would alienate a massive amount of their fan base that aren't that into it.

Also this is EA so I wouldn't expect them to actually work that hard to implement something new.

@Pentame do you need to order the game off the xbox marketplace in order to use EA access?

Played a few games last night and I'm liking the intelligent runs the players make now. Last year if have the ball in a forward position and have no one to pass to, now they're running through and onto stuff.
Looking ok, really need to play someone else though.

They did those amazing through the midfield runs in FIFA 16 demo, don't worry.

Actually it'd be interesting to download the demos for past titles and see what they're like. Might do it for the laugh.

Pretty much sure you'd find many features that are lauded as 'new' in FIFA 17 in that demo. I remember that I thought that FIFA 16 demo last year was probably the best FIFA up to date, just for the retail version to turn out to be the worst up to date. For that reason I'm being a bitter cnut and I'm not downloading 17 demo and waiting with purchase for like a month or two when they start sending in those soul-destroying patches.

Yeah, I've played both too and PES feels like a much, much better game. It's so annoying that FIFA is still a lot better with career mode and has that Journey thing which also looks cool, because in terms of gameplay it's well behind PES
