Gaming FIFA 17

I feel completely the opposite. PES feels so sub-par compared to FIFA. Anyway, you can't really judge FIFA until you play it online, as the single player is broken. I probably played around 2-3 games offline in 16, so that's not an issue for me.

It's pretty amusing when players care about their ratings.

It really is utterly shit playing against the CPU.

I'm an ok player (usually hover between Division 1 and 2 in Seasons mode) and fair to say that even when losing or getting the runaround I don't lose my head and start fouling the opponent.

Think I'm averaging a sending off a game against the CPU. Just so infuriating the way they'll happily turn and dribble backwards towards their own goal rather than come forward and risk it. Also this new thing they do where they just stand there and shield you off. Just begging to be sliced from behind.

Finding it hard to judge the game at present but it's not enjoyable and I'm happy to quit after 3 or 4 games, whereas in previous versions I'd play until release.

It definitely feels more arcadey, and a little dumbed down maybe. Maybe they're trying to re-engage casual gamers. Corners are weird but they probably needed to fix it from last time round where short corners were pretty much your best bet everytime. I like the penalties but will take a while to get used to. Not had enough free kicks yet to understand it.

Yeah I can see it being extremely linear and cheesily written but I'm sure it'll get a lot better. Shame they didn't try and make it a lot better now though instead of just starting with a generic base so they can add improvements next year and market them to shit.
EA releasing an unfinished game? Well I never...

Not played it or seen any comments but I bet they're mainly along the lines of:

It feels really fluid
I can score all kinds of different goals
No ping pong passing

Seems more than usual complaining about the way the CPU keeps the ball. I've always hated this and I definitely found it too in the demo

I'm extremely impressed with this demo tbh, I've played loads of games and don't even feel like I'm getting bored.

The passing is more satisfying. I feel like you can pass the ball into space more but it's also a bit less predictable. The ball doesn't feel like it's glued to a particular player at all times which in previous FIFA's it always has to me, the ball feels like it could go anywhere, I've already scored a few random goals with deflections and stuff that I never would have scored in the past. I think they've nailed pace, on some occasions Aguero has just ran with it and left me for dead a bit but it isn't overpowered. Shooting again is less predictable but very satisfying. I think it's the biggest difference between two FIFA's I've ever noticed and I'm happy with pretty much every chance, although people are right when they say the full game always reverts back to same old FIFA a bit so we'll have to wait and see.

Memphis is the 7th best free kick taker in the game  clueless lot

Have no idea what you lot are complaining about with the CPU keeping possession. Played a few games on Legendary and they attack fairly quickly. Averaged about 60% possession in my games.

The problem with the higher difficulties for me is that they relentlessly defend their own box as if they're all clairvoyants. It's incredibly difficult to find time and space for a shot.

Yeah it's impossible to trick them. Fake shot? They stop exactly where you stop. Quick turn? They've turned exactly the same to match.

Don't judge the game based on playing the CPU. It's the equivalent of Cod/Battlefields campaign modes.

It is utter shite and has been that way for many years. If you're buying the game to play against the CPU, then don't. Buy PES instead.

I was at an after dinner speaking thing where Ray Houghton was the speaker, around the time he was a consultant for Football Manager and he said he was commentating on a game at Palace one Saturday when a player approached him after the game to complain that his strength attribute in the game was something like 13, so he took off his shirt in the players' lounge and said "feckin' look at me, man. I'm feckin' shredded. 13? feckin' 13? feck off, man".

I always imagine Ronaldo trying to get a little more ripped every day to push his strength up from - a completely wrong, if we're honest here - 79 in FIFA.

That being said, I wouldn't take FM attributes too seriously. Just look at the difference in strength here, and then look at their height and weight:

A couple of posts in this thread are fatuous, and are nothing more than posters going full-reactionary mode and forgetting that this is a demo. There's no doubt that I'll heavily criticise EA when the final product is released - FIFA 16 was terrible - but it takes more than one day to judge something. Also, something interesting (not really) but many people loved the FIFA 16 demo and overrated the hell out of it. And look how that turned out.

Anyway, my thoughts:

Passing has improved - not by much, but to the point where you can notice a difference. In FIFA 16, when you play a through ball, it goes straight to the defender. Which always irked me. It's as though EA forgot that through balls are played into space. It's so much better on the demo because you can pass the ball into space, with your players running in behind.

Sliding tackles seem to be nerfed. Don't know if that's a good decision, but they had to make the change into a more "manual" system because it's ridiculous how easy it is to tackle an opponent on FIFA 16... unless they're really skillful. LT/L2 seems to be an all in one button for defending, which is great, and defending seems to be more about skill. Not sure how I feel about the whole concept, but it's something different.

Players feel heavy and I feel that makes it more realistic. Let's be honest here, EA copied PES in that regard. It means that you can't spam dribble and hope your player turns right/left quickly. You can still run in a straight line and pace abuse to a certain extent, but it's trickier on this game. However, the input lag on this demo is horrible, and there's no doubt that it's adding to the overall sluggishness of the game (along with the frame rate dropping like crazy). Really, really disappointing.

AI is still too good. PES has the exact same issue as well. Impeccable ball retention, which really bores me. I can't remember the last time I played career mode religiously (maybe FIFA 09 with Leeds?), so it doesn't really bother me that much, but EA need to understand that lots of players avoid online and solely play career mode, plus the demo should give new FIFA players a better experience IMO.

Finally, I'm on the fence in regard to the new penalty system. It seems convoluted this year. Honestly, is there any need for it? It was fun initially but I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

Loving PSG in the demo. Managed to score this nice counter attack with a cheeky finish from Pastore:

The problem with playing FIFA AI especially on legendary is they all play the same way. They all play like Barca and defend like Atletico. Where as PES you can see the difference between the teams.

So what's the earliest I can play the game through EA Access? And do I need to buy the game to play it, or does it let me play 10 hours before I can decide to purchase or not?

I really don't think that's true with PES.

I really don't like it when playing against AI, it's just stupid how hard it is to regain possession. But the few games I played against my brother were quite enjoyable.

I'll buy it since it will still be fun for a few weeks/months, and the amount of hours I'll put in will be worth the money.

That's why I haven't enjoyed FIFA in years. It's boring playing one-on-one games all the time, I like a building a team in career mode. There's no point in that when the CPU is so boring to play against. The last one I played a lot was 13 or something and I regularly won games 3-0 and was still royally pissed off and unsatisfied afterwards.

I can't believe they've left it so broken and shoddy too, for so many years. They only need to fecking fix it once and then just make minor changes like they always do.

Ok, fixing the CPU gameplay is harder, but it's one of the biggest games for one of the biggest companies. No excuse.

This has been my experience as well.

I played FIFA to death on full manual and legendary for years but due to personal circumstances I didn't play FIFA 16 at all, not even the demo. I'm now playing FIFA 17's demo and it's more of the same. AI that holds onto the ball endlessly waiting for you to make a mistake due to sheer boredom, AI that can unrealistically predict your attempts to dribble around them (until you eventually find the few tricks that work too well, of course), AI that's all way too similar and static and just dumb.

Don't think I'll be buying it this year.

Why not just play people online? it's much more varied. Playing the computer is boring.

I only really play Pro Clubs on FIFA - don't play SP at all.
Is that where you play as the 1 player? That's fun too but I get annoyed when people hog it too much. Unless you've got a dedicated team who keep their positions it's stupid.

No excuse at all.

Even going back to PES3 the CPU was capable of interesting, creative attacking football. Used to genuinely outfox me and keep me guessing all the time, and I was bloody good at PES. FIFA that never happens, you can read their attacks easily, they just sometimes score anyway

I am absolutely not getting it this year.

whats that you say? The Journey?? That sounds interesting.

Maybe i'll wait a few months for it to be cheaper

oh ok then, release day it is

Anyone else find The Journey too easy/scripted? Like the defenders really give you too much time/space in the box?

I scored a hat-trick and got 10.0 rating.

I long for the day in a FIFA game where my holding midfielder actually holds and is not on the edge of the opposition box when I am attacking. The game will always play one way until they can sort basic shit out like that.

19th of September.

Wait.. what?! That's 3 days away.

Do you have a link to confirm? I Googled it and didn't see anything about 19th of September, just 5 days before release, which would make it Sep 22

I did too and as @Levo and others will confirm I'm crap. With the trailer it showed after that game I get the feeling it'll script it so you play crap some games, being left out of lineup etc as part of the storyline and there'll be feck all to do about it.

I'm seeing trailers for The Journey where Hunter is in a City jersey, does he end up joining City in the storyline?! I was under the impression that you had to play for United at the start.

I think he can start at any EPL club. They use the footage of him at MUFC to advertise the new mode as they've just signed some exclusivity deal with United.

This has been a gripe of mine for ages. Those individual player instructions are clearly for show, as setting your CDM to not go forward does absolutely nothing at all.

I cant wait to get stuck into Pro Clubs this year. Think I may even give UT a bash properly for a change too.

Oh how the xbox lads don't realise quite what they've got themselves into, they haven't had the pleasure of me on the mic yet, or pissed me yet

Whereabouts are you from?
