Fellaini

Our midfield requires something a bit more than 'ordinary' to strengthen it enough to help us compete with other elite teams. Fellaini isn't what we need.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, if we had got a Thiago or Fabregas or a Modric then I don't think we'd be in for Fellaini (if we are actually anyway). I think if he was a priority then we'd have got him in already due to his contract clause. But if we went for two deep lying midfielders in Carrick and Fellaini then that would undoubtedly sure us up defensively wouldnt it? And then you'd have RVP, Kagawa, Rooney, Nani, Zaha etc to go and win the game. Something similar to how Mourinho set up Madrid, Fellaini would be out Khedira in theory...

Arteta is a much better passer of the ball and technically miles superior.

Not arguing that, point is that they have/had very similar passing stats while at the same club for the same manager. One moved to a bigger club and improved and the other could do that as well surely? Maybe not to the same degree but his stats would get better here.

Fellaini is far far inferior to Khedira, despite Khedira being underwhelming at times last season.
His best attribute is chesting the ball down and providing flick-ons to team mates. He doesn't suit the way we play in the slightest. All people who like him offer is 'provides steel' 'nuisance' 'offers something different' we need someone in midfield who is more than just a nuisance ffs. He gives away stupid niggly fouls all the time, he isn't a great passer at all so when Carrick is out having Fellaini as our primary passer/main midfielder would be a concern. For what it's worth I'm not really a fan of jones in CM but would much rather play him in midfield over Fellaini.

People are acting like he is the last midfielder left in the world so we need to settle for him despite him not being anywhere near good enough for us.

I've said it a million times. Luiz Gustavo is much better in possession and can offer a good defensive platform to build from in midfield for us. The fact that Bayern are letting him go is insignificant, they have the best midfield options in the world atm, someone was bound to be surplus to requirement when Thiago came.

Kondogbia is another option, much better on the ball than Fellaini but his ownership might be an issue. Marchisio if we actually put in a serious bid considering how much we need someone and how late in the window it is rather than low-balling.

There are other options.

I'm genuinely not sure where this Fellaini is crap on the ball rubbish is coming from. He's not highly adventurous but he normally finds his man and takes the right option. He's really not far inferior to Khedira at all imo, if he comes here he'll suprise a lot of people. He's not my first option but he's an intelligent footballer who's flexible and carries out instructions well from what I've seen.

Agree to disagree but I think he'd improve the squad and more importantly the first team at the moment.

I think Moyes genuinely thinks Fellaini will do the job for United all this time. But after bringing Everton coaching staff over, some might have said he was just turning United into Everton. So he had to at least go through the motion of trying for other midfielders before settling on Fellaini. Then United fans will think oh well why not. :) For the record I have always been a Fellaini fan.

Does he? We haven't really been linked with him at all and by all accounts, Moyes has been going for other, better midfielders in this transfer window and seemingly not been interested in him at all.

If that would be the reason, why Fellaini is not at Old Trafford yet, my judgement of Moyes would be simple: not good enough for United. Wasting several weeks, making Fellaini miss the important pre season, which would make his start at United way harder than it already would be, just for the sake of appearances? Big mistake. He is managing one of the biggest clubs of the planet. He will have to make unpopular decisions for the sake of the club and the team sooner or later. He is not there to keep every supporter happy, he is there to keep success.

No, Fellaini is the fall back option to Fabregas and Thiago. He may have been an option, but he was not on the top of their list.

Really? Carrick had a 80% pass completion rate when he was at Spurs, so?

Passing stats are in general overrated and more often than not say very little. They are highly dependent on teammates and the style of football of the recpective team.

Yep. I just find it odd that people are writing him off already due to this, when Carrick wasn't much better at Spurs.

Didn't Moyes say he wanted both a defensive midfielder and a creative midfielder? In that case he wouldn't be a fall back option at all. In regards to him not being at the club already...Martinez says there has been no bids, but can we take that at face value? Probably not, i wouldn't be surprised if there have been bids made that haven't received our valuation, so Martinez has came out and stated there has been nothing as they've been laughable. To be honest, nobody knows. Why would Moyes not pull out the stops to bring Fabregas to the club for pre season rather than make 3 or 4 bids at a fairly slow rate? Some transfers pan out longer than others, it doesn't mean that a manager doesn't think they're good enough. Wasn't Arteta a little bit of a panic buy for Arsenal? Pretty much, but look how solid he has been.

Wait, I thought Fellaini has or had a release clause? This makes the situation not comparable to Fabregas. Not to mention that Barcelona is obviously a harder negotiation partner than Everton.

"Reported" release clause.

Do you want to keep hold of him?
I don't get the impression Martinez does.

Yes and no depending on how much he sells for.

£20 million and above then yes as although he has been a superb and important player for us it would allow us to probably purchase a player like McCarthy (who would most likely fit in with Martinez's philosophy better) and a solid squad player.

No if the fee was below that. At this moment in time it doesn't seem like we have any reason to sell him. He has started in all of the harder of our pre season friendly and has finished around half of all the pre season friendlies too so i don't see why you are getting that impression.

Fellaini Day would make me rub one out for sure...

I genuinely don't get the negativity over Fellaini; he would be an enormous improvement on Cleverley and Anderson. You would think after 7 years of failing to sign a first team cm we would have become slightly less picky!
Don't talk sense on here, mate. The spoilt football manager kids will be all over you saying how rubbish he supposedly is.

I find it incredible the amount of negativity surrounding Fellaini. It's embarrassing really. He's superior to Anderson, Cleverley and Giggs in almost every aspect of the game, and will add much needed steel to our middle third. Himself and Carrick would be an outstanding midfield partnership.

He's superior to Giggs and Cleverley in almost every aspect of the game? Really?

Yes. For a central midfielder, he has more essential qualities to be effective. Cleverley has had a litany of chances to prove himself now and it appears he's not up to the task. The fact that he's a starter for England gets him more slack than he deserves. Gibson was never afforded the same staunch defence despite arguably being as good during his time at the club.

I rate Fellaini too but couldn't disagree with you more re: Cleverley and Giggs.

I'd love my job to be the guy who makes up injuries for players that are probably going to leave. Could get really creative.

So if someone doesn't rate a player you rate they're a spoilt football manager kid? I don't play football manager, I don't think I'm particularly spoilt and I'm certainly too old now to be concerned a kid, but guess what? I'm not a fan of Fellaini. Go figure.
