Fellaini

He's better than a peak Fletcher too, who some people claimed was the best midfielder in the league......workhorses!

No he isn't. Fellaini is a good footballer but Fletcher played for a year and a half at a higher standard than anything Fellaini has produced to date. People need to go back and watch 08/09 and 09/10.

He's a good player. Some of you guys are fecking ridiculous.

Comparing the fees of the best striker in the world at the time to a decent/good (depending on how you look at it) midfielder, not sure that's the best approach to take here.

It's not a comparison regarding the player or position but about the melodrama. RVP too old and injury prone etc. You cannot judge this guy on what he's done for Everton. If you compared Yorke when he was at Villa to Yorke when he was at United it's night and day. The fact is, we need to do something and he's certainly not as bad as he's made to sound.

Goals from midfield and a bit of physicality, he's got good touch too. I'd like him, not overly enthused with the quoted price but he's a good player and it means we don't have to worry about marking him anymore.

It's not that he's bad, it's that he's not that good, and he's a complete cnut to boot.

There's a quite a few quality midfielders in Italy at the moment too I'd say.
Indeed.

A lot of these things are cyclical. Remember 2006/7 era The EPL had by far the best midfielders in europe With ourselves, chelsea, liverpool having excellent CM's.

The problem with Italy, and to an extent Spain is the pace of the league. The CM's have a lot more time on the ball and have often had difficulty adapting to the EPL. That is such a cliche now it pains me to say it. It doesnt mean the EPL is 'better' just different. Different style of play.

One thing Fellaini has above those in Italy and Spain (apart from the obvious quality players) is EPL experience.

Also...like to make this point, what the feck did Belgium feed their kids about 20 years ago?

Define good Cina :) Not sure being a cnut is that bad a deal. Is he one off the field? I think he'd link well with Carrick and either Cleverly, Anderson or Kagawa. He'd certainly get around the pitch and get stuck in

I don't think people would disagree with you. He is better than any of our midfielders bar carrick. He's better than most midfielders in EPL. The problem is after a summer we have been after Fabregas and Thiago it just feels like we are settling and we COULD/SHOULD have done better. He will improve us...just not AS much as people want.

Interesting thought though. Can we list (and try be honest) better midfielders (CM's) than Fellaini at the moment:

Carrick (in his 'carrick role').
Toure
Wilshere
Gerrard (maybe..but not sure about that)

Any more? Cant have likes of Fernandinho as we just dont know yet (although he will be good). Arteta, Lampard, Sandro, Dembele, Ramires (as a CM), Barry, Milner...all I would prefer Fellaini in my team.

It's funny because I checked out arsenal mania yesterday (and incidentally found one of my posts quoted there) and they were laughing at us over here for how much we hype Wilshere, with some of them asking how much of him we've actually seen considering his injury problems and everything else.

Yeah i Couldnt decide over wilshere. At his best he is very good, However, i agree i dont get the hype and His injury situation makes it worse...but i was ignoring injuries as a point

Red cards and suspensions aren't a big deal?

I think the word "good" can be found in most dictionaries.

It can but I wanted to hear your definition. Keane got reds as did Scholes. Ramos is miles worse. It's not like he spends half a season on the sidelines

What bothers me is that he is slow and I don't think he can control a game in midfield. He and Carrick would make us too immobile and we'll resort to more direct or long ball football which could work as we kind of play like that but defensively I don't think we'd be able to pressure teams and win the ball early. He hasn't got Carrick's positional sense too imo.

But I guess he's the only one available and no one seems to want him atm so we'll probably sign him. Have to start preparing mentally for it...He's good around the box, will win some long balls, elbow people. fecking Fellaini, jesus christ. It's alright, no panic.

I hope we sign Fellaini, our midfield definitely need someone like him.

I dont know where this idea comes from, you are not the only one who thinks so...but its way off the mark.

Look at these to remind yourself of last season and his pace and touch:

I hope this speculation is true. Definately what this team needs in the middle of the park. He may not be the best passer but he will put some steal and a physical threat in the team, which we currently lack.
Anyone who thinks he is not worthy of a place in this current team needs a reality check. Carrick is the only CM who is a better player in this squad.

All of whom are far better players.

The fact is he's not as good at Keane or Scholes but can do a job.

Personally I'd be happy with Fellaini. Getting Kagawa playing central is important too as well. It could be a big season for him. If we got some great attacking midfielder, there will be a knock on effect and would probably mean him getting shunted out wide.

I bet if he cuts his hair he would be more mobile. Think of the air resistance that stupid fro causes. Even a centre parting would be more aerodynamically more efficient albeit a tad dated.

I can't see why people don't want him. I'd have him in the team in a heartbeat. He has terrorised us in past games.

My feelings towards signing Fellaini have gone on an emotional roller coaster to the point that I would love us to sign him now, regardless if we bring in another midfielder or not.

I would also love it if those Asian fans turn up to matches wearing Afro wigs.

Why asian fans particularly?

Lots of evidence in these videos that he can hold the ball up in advanced position and is good in and around the box but not much to make you think he's a top centre midfielder. I don't think Fellaini is a bad player I just think he's at his best in the hole, ahead of midfield, rather than at the heart of midfield. He's a good centre midfielder but not a great one. If we were going to buy a centre midfielder from Everton we should've got Arteta before Arsenal signed him.

90% of those videos is him winning headers and long balls, not exactly the best argument. I said he's good around the box but what will he bring us playing deeper? Cover for Carrick I guess, albeit worse. Also he's maybe better than Anderson, that's also something.
Not convinced at all.

That's because Everton used him that way. Not because that automatically suited him better but because their forwards were useless.

Is anyone else getting goose pimples at the thought of this giant paying for us? I'm getting goose pimples, the hairs on my arm are even sticking up.

Although in fairness, that could be down to the door being open and it being slightly chilly.
