Fellaini

What is wrong with half of you clowns.. We don't need him to come here and sit infront of the back four, we hav Carrick for that. He would add bit and threat through the centre whicch to me is more important than a Bousquets wannabe.

He plays the Rooney/Kagawa role right now for Everton.

We need someone to be in between Carrick and Rooney/Kagawa. Not someone for either role and those are the 2 roles he has played so far for Everton.

He'd cost 30 million pounds, imo and i am not sure he'd be much better than our current options in that role.

If you don't think he is any good in a deeper role you should look back in this thread when he was playing there and see how good his stats are. Like i've said many times before, the only reason people are noticing him now is because he is scoring. His presence for the team was exactly the same before and it was just as good as it is now, except it is being used as an attacking threat now rather than defensive.

EDIT: Agree regarding technical ability, his chest control is the best in the league by a country mile.

He has very good touches that have linked up some fabulous play for us this season too.

Good post - he is is easily good enough for Utd - and the sort of player they need in midfield - add a bit of bite. He was always class - he just gets far more attention now he is scoring in his more advanced role.

That's half the problem though...er...you clown.

Carrick has very little competition!

I'd happily take Screech mind.

Carrick isn't a playmaker, imo. He is best used as a defensive shield cum DLP.

Agreed with whoever said someone like Gundogan would be a better fit for us. (In terms of kind of player, rather than only him).

So......he is a playmaker then, just a deep-lying one?

Rooney and Kagawa are better than him, they suit our style. Fellaini doesnt and even if he would improve our midfield and add some goal threat, he'd cost way too much.

Your missing the point. I'm saying so, because he is clearly playing a position which is even out of sorts for him. Abit like Cahill was asked. He doesn't need to play that way if he was to come here, however it would be a good alternative to have.

Ah yes, that rock solid back four we have that copes with everything thats thrown at it.

Carrick is as much of a problem as anyone else. I don't see why his position is beyond reproach to some when the job he's supposed to be doing isn't being done.

Are you suggesting we buy Fellaini do that job then? Our defensive woe's are more than just Carrick not doing his job right. Yes at times the back haven't been protecting but that is more due to the fact teams can run through us, I wouldn't say we need a defensive minded midfielder to prevent this.

Fellani is a box to box midfielder, in the mould of De Rossi, Viera, and Keane. I'm not saying he's worth licking the dirt of Keanes shoes, but he's a very complete player

No he isnt. He doesnt cover near the amount of ground these players did in their prime. Just because he can play multiple roles doesnt mean he can play them all at once.

Meh. Still think he's not good enough to play here and doesn't fit into our style of play at all. If the coaching staff does end up with the opinion that he is both, then I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I think there are other places the club could be spending it's money.

I agree he isn't going to be the best proponent of the box-to-box style of play. It isn't what we need anyway. Personally as a defensive minded midfielder he would be excellent. Last season he won more tackles and aerial challenges, got dribbled past the least and won more possession than any other midfielder in the Premier League. He won the ball 190 times and the nearest to him was Alex Song some 30-40 behind.

If this is what he is doing at United then think of the time Carrick, Cleverley & Anderson will have on the ball. Time that would otherwise be spent trying to win it back.

Pete will silently, no make that loudly, cheer at this gif.

What is the point of doing something like that? He's going to end up getting a lengthy ban and may end up really costing his team, especially with the number of games over the Christmas period.

Should get 9 games. 3 for each act of violent conduct.

3 acts of violent conduct is 12 altogether, 3 for the first, 4 for the second, 5 for the third. Joey Barton got 12 for his behaviour on the last day of last season.

Should be 7 then, I'm not sure the little backward headbutt and elbow contact was as serious as the other two. Really fecking stupid either way from a player who seemed to be emerging from that sort of shite.

Never realised it went up like that. Similar ban to Barton is deserved.

Wonder which games he will be banned for? are they due to play Citeh or Chelsea during that ban? could do with him there for that if so.

I was talking about this with my dad earlier - If the referee had done his job properly and sent him off after the first offence, then the most he would have received would be a 3 game ban. If he gets a 9 game ban then essentially he's getting further punishment because of a refereeing error. Now I'm not saying that's what he'll do, by the sound of it Moyes will accept whatever is given to his player, but there's certainly an argument on Fellaini's behalf.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I think it should be a 8 game ban personally.

Surprised that Shawcross went down like that. It was more of a nut push. It would be nice to see a footballer stand his ground for a change.

Hate him. Dirty cnut, and I hate how everyone thinks he's amazing. He isn't. He's a big lump who can score goals. Would hate it if he came here.

He's not amazing but he doesnt need to be to get into our midfield. Granted thats not where he's played this season for Everton but he is a CM.

He's much more than a big lump, good footballer.

He wouldn't get into our starting XI not ahead of Carrick or Cleverley anyway. People go on about our shit midfield, but a midfield duo of Carrick and Cleverley is arguably one of the best midfield twos you could get in the premiership.

Ok, he's not a lump, and has a bit of technique about him, but I dont like him at all.

All true but football is a squad game. Having someone like Fellaini will give us:

1- A chance to rest Carrick which we cannot now.

2- An option when Carrick inevitably gets injured. This is something we sorely need.

3- Extra steel for big games if we want a more solid middle 2 or a 3 man midfield.

4- Height at both ends of the pitch for set pieces.

5- Goals.

To be fair to him he hardly made any sort of appeal after either of the 3 challenges though, he just got on with it. It annoyed me to be honest he'd been nutted and elbowed yet still let him smack him in the face for the third incident why he didn't react or even appeal to the referee is beyond me he let him walk all over him.

True, but I'm sure there are better options for cheaper out there. Plus, I wouldnt like him as a replacement to Carrick. Whenever I see him play, his passing looks decent, but no better. Not even close to Carrick's range. I'd prefer someone who can sit in front of the defence and give a great pass. A midfield two of Cleverley-Fellaini wouldnt work imo, as Cleverley wouldnt be able to get forward as much with Fellaini's limited passing ability, as he'll have to be the one to pick it up from the defence and move it on.

Plus, tbh, I dont think we need any more goal threats. Cleverley, the wingers and strikers give enough of that. If we're getting another midfielder, a goal threat is way down my list of things he needs to be.

His passing is nowhere close to Carrick's range, true. But then, I've never said he should come in and replace Carrick. Am saying he'l give us the chance to rest Carrick from time to time and also offer us other alternatives in the middle. As things stand now, we'd be fecked if Carrick's injured as we have no one in the squad that can do his job. Having someone like Fellaini would take care of that. Also, you're underrating his passing. Sure it isnt as good as Carrick's but he's hardly a slouch with the ball at his feet. If he only has to act as the link between the defence and the frontline, he can do it for sure.

Goals isnt a priority for me either which is why it was last in the list.

I wasnt saying there are no better alternatives out there, am sure there are. Was just responding to your i'd hate to have him here post. He'd be a good addition.

Yeah, ok. If it was a case of him or no-one, I'd obviously take him. However, I dont think he's the type of guy we need.
