Fellaini

Giving him his due they were two contributions of quality today. But as with all his play this season it was in the final third as a striker.

Everton boss David Moyes is aware that clubs will be looking at Marouane Fellaini, but says the midfielder will demand 'a big price'.

The Belgium international has started the 2012/13 campaign in sparkling form, with the 24-year-old having played a pivotal role in guiding the Toffees into fourth spot.

Another goal and assist over the weekend helped Moyes' men past Sunderland and allowed them to cement their standing inside the UEFA Champions League places.

Having seen the likes of Wayne Rooney, Joleon Lescott and Mikel Arteta lured away from Goodison Park in the past there is a fear that Fellaini could soon be heading the same way, but Moyes has made it clear that anyone intending to bid for his prized asset will have to dig deep.

"They know where Felli is, they know where to come and watch him - they know as well that it will be a big price if they are interested," said the Scot.

"I'm not in the mood to keep the fight going all the time, because I've lost a few players now, but the ones we've lost - they've paid for.

"I think we've got to the stage at Everton where we say, 'Look, we've lost some really good players but I don't think it's stopped us from progressing the team'.

"We sold Lescott, we sold Arteta and we've all felt really down when we've lost those players but we've had to pick ourselves up and go and find other ones.

"The club will always be bigger than any player, any manager, and the players we've brought in are showing that."

Sounds like he's resigned to losing him.

Understandably so. Everton cant really keep hold of him if he continues to play the way he has. They can demand top dollar though and i think they'l get it because whenever Fellaini comes into the market, he'l have multiple suitors.

Fair interview from Moyes. Every player has a price, and it sounds so hollow when managers or chairman claim that they will never sell at any price.

This, I hate it when managers say "So and so are not for sale at any price" which is clearly a lie, everybody has a price, the price may well be prohibitively high and no one will pay.

Whenever I think of how Shitty struck it lucky, I wish if it had to be any other club, it should have been Everton. Year after year they were performing well, on a limited budget and after they had to keep on selling their best players.

& to top it off, it would have pissed the reds off. Bonus.

Anyway, back on topic. Where do you guys think he'll end up?

Can't really see Chelsea needing him (when has that ever stopped them from buying anyone though!) or City for that matter. And they seem to be the only ones who's interested and can afford him (especially the price Everton will ask if he continues the season on this form!).

He will only stay this summer if we manage to get CL.

Real Madrid could possibly be interested? Alonso/Kaka/Essien are all aging. When they leave/retire, he will only have competition from Khedira/Ozil/Modric which should get him 30+ games a season i'd imagine. Chelsea could do with him considering that he is an upgrade on Mikel. He's better than Rodwell and Garcia for City too...

I'm assuming that he will be used as a CDM for a club rather than the CAM role he's been playing for us.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking because all the clubs listed probably have superior CAM then Fellaini.City have Silva, Tevez, Nasri and Toure who can all play there, so there's a space for him next to Barry/Garcia.

Chelsea have Oscar, Mata who play there, though he's definitely a upgrade on Mikel, next to Ramires.

What is Fellaini's own preferred position though?

Not sure where can he play if he signs for us. Seems like a player who can only thrive in a certain system build around him.

I'm lukewarm about him coming to United - but only because, in my opinion, now he's had a taste of playing off the forward (and seemingly enjoyed it) he may not be happy to sit as a deeper midfield player simply making tackles and passing the ball on. His best form seems to be in the final third when he has players in behind to cover him and I just dont see where he's fit in at United.

That said, he's a game winner - maybe Fergie could find a place for him. he's certainly got the ability to be a "top 4" player.

Wouldn't be my 1st choice, but with that being said I'd be anything but dissapointed if we somehow managed to sign him (not that we will).

My favourite midfielder in the premiership talent wise

If we did buy him I can only imagine Fergie sees him as a CM, but he's shown he'd offer a good option up top if we were chasing a game and wanted a different type of threat.

He played midfield last season and got 5 goals and 1 of those was at OT when he didn't actually play midfield at all, what I'm getting at is his best position is higher up the pitch which is where he wouldn't get a game with us

Not your favourite striker?

By the way I imagine Moyes licking his lips at the prospect of selling him. Bought for a big fee, he'll only move for an even bigger one and when else are Everton going to have that kind of money to invest? In Jelavic and Mirrales they have good enough forwards to cope without him

Will be a good signing for someone. That performance against us, was probably the best by an individual against us in some time. Trust me, if we signed him he'd be a cult figure within a few months because he's a managers dream. He's playing further forward and it's working and he's scoring but he's not a striker and I serously doubt Moyes is that eager to sell but will.

Many people in the matchday thread wanting him here again. Admittedly, I'm not watching the match, but I assume he's still playing as a 10 of sorts?

I don't want him here tbh. I don't like him on the pitch, and he wouldn't improve us imo.

He would improve us but not in midfield. He'd be a very different option up front but as we keep saying, we dont need a striker

Definitely not suited for us. I've always said this, good player, but he's more of a centre forward for them. They lump it forward to him to bring it down. She'd be pretty poor for us in all honesty. Not a centre midfielder anyways. People think he's a defensive midfielder, he's big and he plays well when they see him, but he doesn't play as a midfielder for them.

It's not like he just moved to Everton, he's played numerous times for them as a defensive midfielder. Likewise for Belgium.

Exactly, it's only with Cahill leaving that he has properly moved to the number 10 role. He can definitely play midfield, I think it's his best position.

Our resident Everton fan SilentWitness thinks it is as well.

Phil Neville said on MOTD that Fellaini still thinks his best position is defensive midfielder.

Wherever he moves, it will be to play in midfield. Cant see any top team playing him as a target man to just knock down balls.

I don't care where he wants to play he'd improve us either end. Would give that goal threat from the centre we've missed for years.

If we had him, we wouldnt use him the way Everton do. He'd play in the middle of the park thus nullifying his goal threat to a large extent. I'd still have him here though. Good solid player.

That said i still think it's in his nature to attack the box in goal scoring opportunities, more so than anyone we have at the club at the minute.

Yeah, that i definitely agree with. Will give us a great aerial presence at both ends too. Something we sorely need.

With the amount of times we cross the ball surely he would suit us perfectly?

It's not like we have any real target man on the field upfront in the air

Only if we want Utd to begin playing like Stoke.
