Fellaini

They're mental if they have refused 38m, that was a very fair price.

Just sign that Spanish fella already and let the Everton duo play for Everton.

These mugs are saying they want £25m. FOR EACH. Tell them to feck right off Woody.

Good, we will hold out for more than £40 million, and if United don't want to pay up then we won't sell. Will be happy with either outcome.

It's fine for Everton/Martinez to be happy with rejecting a £38m bid - but - that will put a lot of faith into the mentality of both Baines and Fellaini.

As much as they might not like to admit it, Everton are not a CL club and will not be a CL club anytime soon. Modern football's a bitch etc.

Fellaini and Baines are both good players, bought by Everton, who are probably not going to get a great number of opportunities to play at the very highest level. (Baines in particular at his age)

So if Everton take the stance that they will not sell their players to top European clubs on principle - that's totally fine. But don't be surprised if the next Fellaini chooses not to come to Everton because he knows that he can't use it as a stepping stone to further his career.

I hate that it is how modern football works, but it is the reality of the situation.

I think £40m for those two is highway robbery, and hope we'll say f*ck it at this point. See how Everton get on with Fellaini and his agent knowing Everton rejected a value above his previous release cause, and are preventing him from joining a CL club at the peak of his career.

I agree with parts of this. However from Fellaini's perspective, I think he'll say to himself "Well they could have had me for the release clause all summer and chose not to. If United weren't willing to make that commitment to me, its hardly worth kicking up a fuss to go them".

No matter how you slice it, we could have simply signed the player in an amicable way with Everton by paying the bloody clause. Now we're looking at paying the same value as the clause if not more, without the player getting a preseason in with us. Baffling stupidity.

Everton should be grateful with the 38m offer (if there's one). They get that kind of offer just because their ex-manager is managing a rich club now. They won't get close to that from other team.

They probably partly cutting their nose off to spite their face because they were so "insulted" by our initial offer. Seriously though, considering we went in at £12m for Baines, at £25m they're having an absolute giggle.

Lol if Everton think we'll pay £50 million. £40 million for them both is more than fair.

@Beachryan

We haven't prevented Fellaini from joining a big club, and we aren't going to prevent him from leaving either if an offer which we believe is fair comes in. We put a flipping clause in his contract which would have made it easier for him to leave too, as now we are able to hold out for more than that clause and not worry since his contract is until 2016.

NO....who would have been happy that in the post-Fergie Summer that we pursued Felli as our number 1 target and signed him weeks ago? No fecking bastard because we are all moany cnuts.

This one was always going to be last bloody minute, because we are spoilt cnuts.

I hope you keep rejecting our bids.

TBF its entirely our fault for not activating his release clause. Everton aren't going to let him go easily now.

We've been quite stubborn in the transfer market for many years, demonstrating that we're unwilling to overpay for players. We should probably look elsewhere.

So, who's our next fallback option if this Fellaini's deal fail?

From Fellaini's POV, this opportunity is too good to pass. Everton is going nowhere, and the sail could be gone next season, if there's better midfielder available (*cough Fabregas cough..)

You havent worked out why we didnt sign him within the release cause date? Thats baffling that you havent worked that out.

I hope that doesn't change. For example I really hope we haven't had the serious brain injury that Everton's board have clearly had in thinking we will pay £50m for these two.

I dig that too. Just saying Everton don't hold all the cards here - if it comes down to it I wouldn't be that surprised if mysterious comments start coming out about Fellaini's 'state of mind' and 'desire to play' for Everton.

On the one hand, I think it's great that players aren't being given all the power. On the other, in this particular case (and in the Suarez case) I think the values that have been offered are in line with what the club promised the player.

I'm sure Fellaini was told he'd be able to leave if a bid came in around £25m - hence the £23m buy out clause. If I were him I'd be doubly annoyed - at United for being such f*cking amateurs but also at Everton trying to play hardball when their valuation of me is pretty clear for all to see.

I think Moyes had a gentleman's agreement with Everton when he left which stated he would not exploit any contract loopholes.

We shouldnt pay much over £35m for the pair of them really, £38m would be more than fair value

Id rather we got no one than pay more than that

I can only assume we were either going for other targets, or wanted to pay less than the clause value. If option a), the other target was probably Fabregas who was never coming here. if b) well its not exactly gone to plan then has it?

Can we just go for Fellaini and forget about Baines? I imagine that would make this whole process a feck-ton easier.

I can't see us buying them for over £38m personally. Already being shafted at that price.

People act like they're surprised but it's obvious Everton would want more than his release clause.

Why do you think they were 'relieved' when it expired?

Problem 100% of our own making.

You are in the process of being royally shafted for two players who won't significantly improve you. They won't accept anything less than £45m.

They will - wait and see ...

this is all just media bollocks at the moment anyway

I have really hated how the club have gone about their business this summer. The worst I can recall.

Shambles and laughable if we end up paying well over that 23 mill for Fellaini. He was an obvious addition to the club and without any fuss could have signed July 1st
