Fellaini

I thought this was the most on transfer in history around 10pm last night? Page 135 in this thread, there's a whole queue of people acting like we'd already signed him.

I'll be honest, I've not been too happy over the talk that we might sign him, as I don't think he's one of the midfielders we should be looking at. If he does come though, I'll be delighted if he proves me wrong.

I think the main reason is because people think this is a logical deal for us that might actually happen! So you tend to accept it more easily..

Also somebody said something about the source on Twitter being "rock solid for us" or something like that I think..

I think some people are underestimating Fellani.

He can make a big impact ala Toure; aggressive defensive cover, driving runs, aerial ability.

Not saying he's pretty, that's not his job, but every team needs steel (Arsenal for all their pretty football were never as effective after Viera left).

You're just thinking of Yaya Toure, not Fellaini. He doesn't do that most famous part of Toure's game since he moved to England. Fellaini passes and moves, tries to beat a player with a bit of nifty footwork. He doesn't pick the ball up in midfield and look to dribble into the goalmouth, going straight through players who dare to get in his way. He might knock them down through elbowing them, but not through running the ball at them.

Baines and Fellaini are on the bench against Stevenage! It's ON!

(I know it may be because it's an easy game, but it's still fecking on!)

One thing that doesn't make sense in this transfer saga is that if the case is that we are close to a deal with United, why aren't we doing the same as Spurs are doing and making moves for players.

Didnt they want 15m for Baines? and didn't Fellaini have a 23m release clause?

The Mirror is full of shit.. so it doesnt really matter

It's actually reported to be 20 for Fellaini and 18 for Baines.. Also they say Everton will accept it.

feck me: £18M for a 28-year-old FB who's defensively poor and £20M for a mediocre CM that you can upgrade for less £££ - where do I sign?

20 for Fellaini seems a reasonable price, but 18 for Baines.. :(

How about £23m for Fellaini and £15m for Baines? Does that pill swallow any easier?

Better yet, hows about £37.5m for Fellaini and Baines at the amazing, cut-rate, bargain basement price of £500k!

Don't worry, Arsene wouldn't spend that.

You enjoy Flamini and take pleasure in the fact that the shareholders will be getting a nice fat dividend when all that massive transfer warchest they bang on about every summer stays in the bank. You'll need it next year when Spurs take your CL spot anyway.

I don't think that's too bad in today's market. £3m more than an Andy Carroll. Baines is first choice English LB (IMO) and Fellaini has been debated t death but I think he would be a good signing.

The disappointing thing for me is the timing. Had we gone out and signed these two at the start of the window I would think fair enough, they were who Moyes wanted. Now though, after failed bids and speculation for weeks, these feel like last resort panic buys, rightly of wrongly.

Still no actual news?Apart from twitter BS. I reckon this one ain't happening either.

Frustrating.

Let's look at the bright side, if we sign these 2 players we are immediately doing better than Arsenal this summer.

True for Fellaini, but Baines has always been on the table, and there's been no sign of us going after any other LB. Which actually just makes it stranger.

Whether or not Fellaini is better than Cleverley, his inclusion in the squad will instantly increase our tactical options and allow us to play 4-3-3 when the occasion calls for it. For that reason alone I want him signed.

Seriously, we need the signature of this guy. He's not only useful on the pitch but some of his interviews are friggin hilarious !

Him and Anderson needs to team up in midfield for the sake of pure funk.

Please, for the love of God, hurry the F up, Wood-Moyes !

I'd be pretty pissed if this doesnt go through at this stage. I've marked him off as a definite, so if it doesnt go through, and we get no one else, it'll be quite frustrating.

Meh something is off, we could have had him 2 months ago we really wanted him. Paying 20m (at least) now when we could have just got him for 23m before the start of pre season seems silly and the Baines deal looks completely pointless.

I probably sound like a spoiled cnut but this pre season as been terrible, we need some quality in midfield and I feel like we have gone about it in the wrong way (spending all summer chasing an unrealistic player).

I agree with the jist of your post, but this bit is odd...

We are likely to pay 23m (maybe that's what he meant?) for him now so it does beg the question of why the feck we didn't just pay the 23m two months ago instead of waiting until the very end of the window. I can't believe that Fellaini would be a second choice to Fabregas because they're totally different players.
