Fellaini

Meh something is off, we could have had him 2 months ago we really wanted him. Paying 20m (at least) now when we could have just got him for 23m before the start of pre season seems silly and the Baines deal looks completely pointless.

I probably sound like a spoiled cnut but this pre season as been terrible, we need some quality in midfield and I feel like we have gone about it in the wrong way (spending all summer chasing an unrealistic player).

... but it doesn't make sense. It just doesn't.

We already started a mind game, probably even unsettle the player and let him know that soon he may be moving from his house.

It just doesn't make sense... :(

We are likely to pay 23m (maybe that's what he meant?) for him now so it does beg the question of why the feck we didn't just pay the 23m two months ago instead of waiting until the very end of the window. I can't believe that Fellaini would be a second choice to Fabregas because they're totally different players.
There must have been some clauses along with the release that Moyes is trying to avoid, only thing I can see.

to me it is clear that we had no intention on paying the release clause and wanted the deal done on our terms, not Everton's so that is why we waited until after it had expired to make the move - I said all along that the clause was pretty irrelevant.

Plus he was not our primary midfield target - all makes sense to me so I am not sure what others are confused about.

what fecking mind game?. We have put in a bid, we know he wants to join. All thats going on is the battle over the fee etc. There are no mind games going on here ffs

Sure. It's just a one long and exhausting battle over fee, I must say.

What we're confused about?
Maybe why we'd risk Everton playing hard ball and us ending up paying more than we could have comfortably had him for 2months back!

We either wanted him or we didn't. Unless that's changed as our hunt has got more desperate

we wont pay more, worst case scenario is paying the same as the release and I even doubt we would pay that upfront

It's certainly strange that we're apparently haggling over 2-3 million for him. If Moyes knew he wanted him then why didn't we just pay what we had to when he had a release clause instead of leaving it to the last week of the transfer window. This whole summer has been very strange.

It may well be that there was only limited money and so they took the chance with fabregas which meant we missed the deadline. Or could be that he wasn't a priority earlier in the summer but now is one of the only realistic options left. Or we thought the negotiations would go better but for whatever reason they haven't. There could be a fair few reasons in all honesty, it's been a frustrating summer but we don't need to go overboard depth the whole incompetence thing when there could be lots of other things happening.

Oh for god sake just pay these poor bastards and let Martinez sign some fecker from S America and that kid from Wigan.. Everybody wins..
The EQ wasn´t at the CL draw and Ronaldo wasn´t there either wink wink!

It's pretty much bang on because Fellaini is the fallback option and the clause expired before we had hit Plan C

Who was he the fallback option to though? Surely Moyes views Fellaini as a completely different option to Fabregas/Modric and therefore Fellaini shouldn't be seen as a fallback to them. If we got Fabregas we would still need someone like Fellaini to cover Carrick.

No chance we would have bought Fabregas/Modric and Fellaini (unless we sold Anderson) - those expecting that were all seriously deluded

You don't consider not getting Fellaini at all as the worst case scenario?

No

I do remember some pundit or other at the start of the window saying we had plenty of "plates spinning" as we half expected a few to fall.

Seems they all fell, and we're just about spinning one last Everton based plate at the death!

Moyes himself said he wanted to sign 2 midfielders (or something very similar to that), you would think a Carrick partner and Carrick backup would be the 2 midfielders we were aiming for.

I think it was phrased as one "attacking goalscorer" and another "deep lying creative" midfielder. Not sure where Fellaini fits into that.

Why do you say that? We needed a midfielder. We tried to sign Fabregas, possibly Thiago although he claims otherwise. Fellaini is a midfielder.

Ive seen a couple of people say this, what exactly are the quotes?

I personally only expected us to sign 1 CM this summer - although I thought there was a chance Anderson might leave and therefore we would need another.

I think so. All we need is one solid player.

Moyes will probably give Anderson a chance to get to know his football, better and then make a decision.

If we could go for two realistic targets, now, I would add Barkley to Fellaini and perhaps loan him back to Everton.

This gave me an image of Anderson being unfamiliar with a football and the coaching staff gradually trying to familiarise him with one. Maybe he's been tasked with looking after one for the week?

While he's still not injured, maybe it's worth to give him a chance...

Ah, so that's why we fired Rene and got in Steve Round...

I have no hassles with Feillani or however you spell it. He'll end our Yaya Toure

This will be done on monday. Wouldn't surprise me if it end as £47M for the both of them. £27M for Fellaini and £20M for Baines.

Seems silly to drag it out on their part...they'd be panic buying in the last minutes of the transfer window, if they agree a deal with us.
