Fellaini

The signing of Fellaini (and Baines) would be depressing because it would be indicative of Moyes's mediocre mindset, something we have seem glimmers of with his backroom signings.

Didn't Ferguson try signing Baines last season? He hardly had a mediocre mindset.

Over the summer that's become a concern for me- is he too set in his ways? Have we hired a small time manager for a big time club?

We'll have to wait and see. Not enough data at the moment - as you say, just straws in the wind.

Unbelievable.

I'll be pleased if we get Fellaini. Good signing that gives us more options. Though I'll still want more. Because Im greedy and spoiled.

Fellaini is more than a decent signing. He's an unplayable 'on his day' player. Given the quality that we have he might have more of his 'on his day' moments.

I wonder whether activation of Fellaini's buy-out clause would have meant that there would be conditions attached such as those giving Everton right of first refusal or sell-on fee and the like. If Moyes wanted to buy him with no strings attached then it would make sense why he did not activate the clause. Otherwise paying a higher price for him now would be senseless.

Old ground, £24 million is paying over the top. His buyout was over the top, thats why we didnt pay it

fair enough, i thought you were saying it was a mistake not to activate the buy out. i disagree with you on the price anyway an initial 20m wouldnt be bad for a proven premiership player who will add a steel to our midfield that it lacks. i still think it lacks another dimension and we need a second midfielder but fellaini is a good start.

i dont see what the fuss is about with some people. fellaini is a good player and will improve our midfield, theres no two ways about it. as i say, we need another also but not getting the other is not a reason to make fellaini a poor signing. im happy if this happens and if it happens fast would like to see him at anfield on sunday.

look at the prices the likes of milner, barry, henderson, rodwell and many more went for. this is a good deal for a player who has performed well for years in england.

If we're also after David Luiz, for whatever reason, we better have a hair care sponsorship lined up. Both of those guys in the line-up might make Wayne jealous...

I think some people are underestimating Fellani.

He can make a big impact ala Toure; aggressive defensive cover, driving runs, aerial ability.

Not saying he's pretty, that's not his job, but every team needs steel (Arsenal for all their pretty football were never as effective after Viera left).

Vieira has shit loads of "pretty" too though. He'd be a good addition though. Don't think he's a 25 million player though but I guess we are desperate.

I was hoping to wake to this morning with a sighting of him at Bridgewater but again nothing concrete on this....not happy.

If PSG are offering 40 million for Pedro, and average players like Bale are worth 100 million then 26 sounds fair. Even an unproven player in Illaramendi went for 36 million.

The Spanish kid is a good example - done nothing, one decent season and a good under 21 tournament. Could be just another Real Madrid player on the scrap heap in a couple of years.

Fellaini is a very good PL player who gives us a bit of bite in midfield - exactly what we've been missing in my opinion. Despite all the moaning on here I can see him becoming a bit of a fan favourite.

Biggest load of garbage I've heard on here in a long while.

He wanted other, more high profile players. It hasn't happened, it still might, but I don't see a problem with him going after his two best players from his previous club - a side he kept well above where they should have been to be fair.

He clearly wants to bring in bigger names, and the club has shown ambition this summer, albeit it hasn't yet worked out. I have no issue with him bringing in a player he knows well, and who he thinks will improve us in an area where we are woefully short.

I disagree. "Proven", "steel", and "midfield" are all important words, especially for us.

Steel means nothing. Seriously. Say he's a good tackler or that he's a big fecker who likes to foul people or that he's tactically disciplined or that he's got good positioning and defensive awareness. 'Steel' is just... nothing, it's a generic word that has no real substance to it.

And being 'Premiership proven' is so hugely, appallingly overrated. Contrary to popular myths, it's very rare that someone excels in a similarly strong league and then fails miserably because he can't adapt to the Premier League. Usually there are a variety of reasons why someone cannot perform according to expectations and the nature of the league itself is rarely the most important of these reasons.

Would be delighted, he is exhilarating. Not a panic buy.

Because a word isn't used in FM, that doesn't mean the word is meaningless.

First, how many leagues are as strong as the Premier League?

Second, of course if you're playing in the same league you have a bigger chance of success, because teams in different leagues may possess different styles of play.. Some leagues need more physicality, some leagues need more speed, ...etc.

Third, even if a player eventually adapts, it would still take him some time to adapt, and considering the competition in high level teams, he might not even get enough chances to adapt.

Fourth, in the case of Fellaini, he isn't just a premier league player, he's a player that our manager knows inside out.
