Fellaini (on his way) out? | Duncan Castles: Fellaini agrees new two year deal

Fellaini’s decision to remain at the club he joined from Everton for a fee of £27.5million in 2013 will allow United to redirect some of this summer’s transfer budget to alternative targets.
That is what we have to hope. That there is something big on the horizon, as long as it is player/s we do actually need.

Great news if true . An excellent player with passion for the shirt

Woodward has to take some of the blame - he's supposed to be overseeing the running of the club. We need a good DOF we've needed one since SAF retired. Woodward doesn't have a plan and that's my issue with him.

I wouldn't be opposed to a DoF and I'm certainly not a fan of the galactico policy either but these are separate issues altogether. Jose makes the final decision on who remains at the club, the extension of Fellaini's contract is on him entirely. Shocking as it is.

He's surely not going to get a game ahead of Matic, Pogba and Fred :nervous:

This transfer window is the worst so far though, no new CB, no new LB (and reports of us not even prioritising it now), no new RW. Woody needs to turn it around as soon as the WC finishes

We do but giving new contracts to mediocre players is a strange way of going about improving.

He may be mediocre at some things, but he is the best at other things.
The elbows and physicality is important to have, in some matches.
If we were playing Barca for example, I would not attempt to beat them at a passing game (that's suicide). I'd try and force them into a physical battle, as that's where I'd stand the best chance of beating them.
I'm not saying that Fellaini is a starter, but he is excellent to have on the bench. The Arsenal match, where we were deadlocked at 1-1 for most of the match is a great example. Fellaini comes on the pitch and immediately Arsenal's defence fell apart. Most defenders simply don't know how to handle Fellaini, especially when he is coming off the bench and playing in advanced positions.
The Fellaini and Martial substitution which I saw at the start of the season was brutal and allowed us to score 3 goals within 10 minutes.

How have we allowed this? He genuinely refused any negotiations we initially offered, tried to whore himself out to Arsenal and Italian clubs, spoke out in the media as if we were lucky to even have him in the first place, and now we give him a two year deal? A year longer than we offered? fecking ridiculous.

We’ve let players with far greater ability walk for less.

Anyway, with this we aren't signing another midfielder, so any rumor about us linked to a new CM is rubbish.

What the feck? This is enough. Mourinho can go and take his plant with him.

I don't care as long as he's a squad player, there were times where bringing him on to keep a lead were really effective. Only annoying thing about it is the comments he made regarding the new contract. I'm looking more on the positive side where it would give us more funds to focus on much larger issues in the team such as RW and LB.

However if we're starting him in crucial CL knockout games then Mourinho can get to feck.

:lol::lol::lol: Welcome back to the theatre of dream , Fellaini. #planb #biglump #lamppost #elbow #josefavoriteplayer

Agree with @Adisa. He is getting his signings and if it goes wrong it is down to him. It is his third summer and two winter windows, that is plenty of time to get this team right. It is the still the style of play that is my big problem, so just have to hope there is a change there.

Of all the combinations in which Fellaini could be helpful, playing him against Barcelona sounds like the worst idea ever.

That Arsenal game is one of about 4 or 5 games in 5 years where bringing him on and lumping the ball forward worked. Compared to the countless games where it didn't work and we just played shit football.

He's a central midfielder that can't pass the ball, can't tackle, can't shoot and is slow as feck.

Bringing him on to elbow and stamp on Barcelona players would be hugely embarrassing. We're Man Utd for feck sake, not Wimbledon or Stoke

I'm certainly not Fellainis biggest fan, but I think this is great news! He gives us an alternative in matches where we're banging towards a wall. I also presume that Mourinho has sketched his plans with him in the negotiations eliminating any potential sour mines when the lack of minutes on the pitch becomes a topic. This will also free funds to other more pressing positions in our starting 11.

The biggest problem I have with Fellaini is that he was never fit for a sustained period last season therefore rendering useless as a squad player.

We must have offered an awful lot of money to re-sign him, thats all I can think of as he was adamant about leaving. Where will he play? Is he happy to sit on the bench and does that mean the same dross of hoofball when he does play? I cant think of any reason we need him if we are moving forward. It has also come across as desperation as didnt Mourinho say anyone who wants out can leave, then begs Fellaini to stay? Unless we are bringing in some WC players as well we are no nearer winning the league than we were last year. Fred and a young kid alone wont change much.

Maybe we signed him as VAR not coming in next season as thought, because I would not fancy those elbows with our VAR panels.

Exactly.
We feel apart at defending corners when he got Injured, he has his uses for us whether fans want to admit it or not

What is even happening with his contact situation?!? Surely if he was staying the club would not allow Fellaini to toy with us like this and it would have been announced by now that he is staying?

I didn’t even like the way Griezmann went about his business before announcing is he staying, so what makes a lesser player like Fellaini think that this is fine!

Got a feeling he will stay. Think him and his agent tried to get a better deal elsewhere, didn’t get it as no club were willing to meet his absurd wage demands and decided to stay because the contract renewal offer we have in place for him is still lucrative for a limited player of his quality and one which another club couldn’t better.

Or maybe he is just waiting for his contract to run out at the end of the month before announcing which club he has signed for?

I’m not either’ Fellaini in’ or ‘Fellaini out’. From what I hear and read, majority of our fans would want him gone but I can see what he can offer and don’t mind him staying but only if we sign ANOTHER midfielder alongside Fred! I want Fellaini to be a plan C player at best and not even a plan B option. If I had to choose between him and staying or going I would say Fellaini out because there is even a chance Mourinho may make him a plan A/starting 11 player and that I dread! :(

This is a fecking horrible news as far as I'm concerned. How the feck do we wanna move forward as a club if we keep players that aren't just suited for the highest level of technical performance required. I mean which other serious club with big aspirations would wanna keep and make feel validated a player like Fellaini.
I have nothing against him but our club is a fecking joke at times, spending money on washed up players, injuried, overrated players and keeping for long periods of time players who are technically decent at best if not bad. feck this
I cannot fecking believe Manchester United is bending backwards for Marouane Fellaini :wenger::wenger:
We're not talking about a Ballon d'Or potential nor a world class player ffs, he's made statements that a player who wanted to leave made.
It really is depressing news. The top teams have squad players that would start for most teams and these squad players have the quality to push the first teamers and make them fight for their place as well. So the argument that Fellaini should stay as 'plan B' is dead for me. Add the fact that his presence in the team means that we have to play in a certain way and that we end up losing control of the midfield means it's very difficult to justify him staying. People love to stick it into Pogba for his languid and laidback style of play but Fellaini is even worse. He just jogs around without any discipline and you'd see people here praising his attitude and mentality. The only positive I can see from this is that it gives Mourinho one less excuse if we don't reach our targets next season.

Oh come on! :(

As others have pointed out, the only positive to come out of this is that we can potentially redirect some funds to acquire a top quality player.

A silver lining. But it makes me depressed that our choice seems to have been between Arnautovic and Fellaini.

I'm just trying to look for positives in this news. Not even thinking about other things.

Jose cannot blame anything on other managers players now. He has fought to keep Fellaini, so now he is all yours, not Moyes, yours.

Another positive could be the saving of some funds but at the same aren't we one of the richest if not the richest club in the world ?
