Fellaini (on his way) out? | Duncan Castles: Fellaini agrees new two year deal

The biggest problem I have with Fellaini is that he was never fit for a sustained period last season therefore rendering useless as a squad player.

This. He was unreliable last season, for me it should be a red flag thing with him, shame as I hoped we'd get in another midfielder with his departure.

The question now is if we had bended for him and gave him the salary he was asking for. That will be hilarious to see if it happens.

Jose cannot blame anything on other managers players now. He has fought to keep Fellaini, so now he is all yours, not Moyes, yours.
As is 45 game a season Ashley Young. And only rivalled by an 18 year old with 6 senior appearances Antonio Valencia.

He’ll still find a way to complain, mind.

So that's centre midfield sorted

So ends the strangest transfer saga in living memory, with us seemingly upping the money and length of contract originally offered to satisfy the Big Belgian.

This dick staying and now Juve buying Cancelo. We’ll be stuck with Fellaini and Darmian for ever :(

Fellaini’s decision to remain at the club he joined from Everton for a fee of £27.5million in 2013 will allow United to redirect some of this summer’s transfer budget to alternative targets.
This is what I've been trying to make people understand, we have bigger priorities than another CM, namely a CB, RW & maybe a LB

Ridiculous decision. He’s gone around Europe trying to get a contract elsewhere but nobody was stupid enough to pay him what he’s demanding so he decides to accept our offer last minute. What a joke. I thought Mourinho only wanted players who were committed to the club.

His fans will still blame the quality of the squad for any poor performances though, pointing to Daley Blind and Luke Shaw who will play a combined total of 120 minutes.

How have we allowed this? He genuinely refused any negotiations we initially offered, tried to whore himself out to Arsenal and Italian clubs, spoke out in the media as if we were lucky to even have him in the first place, and now we give him a two year deal? A year longer than we offered? fecking ridiculous.

We’ve let players with far greater ability walk for less.
 Hardly the case is it?

The state of this place. Just highlights the feckwiterry of the emo internet culture. Imagine getting so worked up over a backup utility player as if the club were concentrating all their resources into making him their only signing in order to build a team around him.

This only means that we will have funds for signing in other areas where we actually need or have a higher priority to fulfil. I don't want him here but I am happy he is not first choice and barely second choice now or at least competing for that 2nd choice rather than being the only other option. Also, it means we will get a fee when we do sell him rather than the square root of feck all if we let him go for nothing.

He may be mediocre at some things, but he is the best at other things.
The elbows and physicality is important to have, in some matches.
If we were playing Barca for example, I would not attempt to beat them at a passing game (that's suicide). I'd try and force them into a physical battle, as that's where I'd stand the best chance of beating them.
I'm not saying that Fellaini is a starter, but he is excellent to have on the bench. The Arsenal match, where we were deadlocked at 1-1 for most of the match is a great example. Fellaini comes on the pitch and immediately Arsenal's defence fell apart. Most defenders simply don't know how to handle Fellaini, especially when he is coming off the bench and playing in advanced positions.
The Fellaini and Martial substitution which I saw at the start of the season was brutal and allowed us to score 3 goals within 10 minutes.

All technically true, but the issue that everyone is pointing out is regarding his (or any player in question's for that matter) overall effectiveness.

Would one rather have a player that can do many things pretty well and influence the game that way over a span of minutes played, or a player that can do one thing really well and influence the game in that way over a span of minutes played.

We will go into next season with Young crossing balls into Fellaini as our biggest threat again

The hysteria in here for us deciding to extend the contract of our 5th choice CM.

Put your feet up reasonable folks, the meltdown should be fun to watch!

Nobody fecking wanted Fellaini this Summer. I can't see why there'd suddenly be much demand for him when he's a year or 2 years older.

It's comical. I particularly enjoy the people taking transfer speculation around him as gospel in order to criticise further. Whored himself out to Arsenal FFS....

If fit I'm pretty sure he will still play a decent of amount of minutes, it's not like Mourinho doesn't like him. He sees him as the key alternative to our play when we don't score. Resorting to long balls during certain tough situation is key to Jose and this is why Fellaini will play a big role again :wenger:

Is this a wind up?

I'm more bothered by that than I am by the actual renewal. Fellaini has been below average in every single seasons that he played for us, he isn't the only one obviously but acting as if he was a good player or as if he has helpful is puzzling.

When we"lost" Zlatan to injury we effectively "had" to spend 90m to stay still.

When the scousers lost Can then they had to spend 42m to stay still.

Losing a player on a bosman is NEVER a good thing, grow the feck up. He's a SQUAD player.

Except you have no idea if anyone wanted him or not. Don't let that stop you talking bollocks though.
Well nobody wanted him enough, that's for sure. Had he got the contract offer he wanted from another club he would have left long ago.

Complete rubbish, I find it funny how often people are willing to forget the important goals he has scored for us all because they have an agenda against him.

The joys of being one of the managers favourite players.

What every other manager thinks about him? That he is a useful player? They dont hate him for his afro or how he looks in general.

Yeah that's why so many Utd fans dislike Fellaini being a Utd player.

It's because of how he looks, nothing to do with him being shite.

See you say 5th choice but he started our biggest game in champions league last year, he would have in the final if he wasn't injured too. You are right though, it kind of is fun to watch.

I don't see him getting many games so it seems a bit strange. He scored a good goal against Arsenal near the end of the season and I like his character and determination.

Suppose Jose sees him as a last chance saloon in a game. Thought he'd be better off getting more game time elsewhere in his later stages.

It has a lot to do with it but mostly its because how we was bought and the fact he wasnt Thiago. After that he had no hope. He isnt shite he is a good squad player, stop with this shite nonsense. How many important goals has he gotten for us?

I do not understand the reason behind this meltdown. He will be our 5th/6th choice CM at best and will be most probably shipped out next year to Turkey or China. He's like a temporary bandage to just stop the bleed, the only reason he even got an extension is because we have other priorities and we do not want to spend millions on another CM.
