Fellaini (on his way) out? | Duncan Castles: Fellaini agrees new two year deal

United should have retracted the offer tbh due to the fact that he has wasted our time and drawn this out. We have been searching for his replacement no doubt and now obviously all that work is for nothing.

Was he still on the same contract when he signed for the club under Moyes? Moyes really did a number on the club.

He is currently on his first contract, iirc we triggered the one year extension.

Calm down people, if some papers are saying (is HLN from Belgium?) he is staying doesn't mean he actually is. Finally realised no club in the world want him, so maybe he (his agent) is just trying (with a little help from journo friend) to use us to get some clubs sign him. Maybe. Everton, please step up.

Now he knows no one wants him, so tail between his legs, and he will say he is happy to stay at the biggest club in the world, after all the crap he spouted before. I don't want players like him at club. If he stays, hope we give him contract, every game you play, you get payed, and if he scores, we give him fish and chips. Who does he think he is? I'd run his contract down, and wave goodbye in a few days.
I pray you're right. This is too ridiculous to be true.

I understand that he is a good squad player and I hope it is just that. I don't hate the guy, but I don't want him starting games either. He just isn't good enough.

What if he signs the new deal and we put him on the market? :) it won't happen but business is business. People always say these things. If some had their way, we'd have sold Ronaldo after that incident in the championships or when he wanted to go but we wanted to keep him another year...just let him go!...Fellaini isn't the problem. It's a squad game and now that money can be reinvested. Fellaini isn't going to make or break our summer
If other clubs wouldn't sign him for nothing, they sure as hell ain't going to pay us to take him away.

Finishing second when you've essentially lost the title in October and when you look at point difference, it's honestly not that great even if it's an improvement on the previous season

We started the season well and obviously the biggest blip was xmas when we lost Pogba. In terms of the mentality of the group, it's easy to forget how far we had fallen. Season before last we were dire at home. We improved on that. We did start well but they had the confidence with their purchases and we fell. I want the clubs scouts to step up....because I think we need to be smarter in the market with our money. It looks bleak now but with 3/maybe 4 good signings you just never know. It's sad to say much depends on who we buy but it really does. LVG and Moyes were crazy bad.....Now we have to once again step up

It's win or bust. Coming close won't change anything, he'll have to be sacked if he doesn't win the PL (as any self respecting big club would do anyway, you never know with us :wenger:)
Even if City wins it ala Aguero style on the last day, it'll be a failure.
Nah, if we have a 2012 scenario again I don't think that will count as failure. I think a lot will look at how the team evolves this season, if at all, and if they don't, the club won't come close and Mou will be gone.

The offer should have been off the table the moment he spouted shit about us in the media and openly whored himself out to the entire world.

Would rather McTominay took his squad place

No one wanted him on a free, who do you think is going to bid if we put him the market with an upgraded salary?

Yes, the classic reverse deal.

Seller: Want this item for free?
Buyer: No
Seller: Want it for 10mil then?

Prove to everyone that no one wanted him ;) I'm afraid you can't. So you can stop making assumption. If everyone could make an offer for free, you wouldn't hear of any bids. You would hear little. Yes, it's an assumption. It is safe to say that a professional club, whatever club, would have been interested and maybe it was the wages demanded or maybe the player just wanted to stay? Maybe he don't feel supported and can you blame him when he's right? He don't destroy our dreams to win anything. He can be a good squad/rotation option. We have to focus on bringing in quality elsewhere to supplement. We have Pogba/Fred/Herrera/Pereira? Perhaps ...It would be nice to bring in another quality midfielder but we know United are tighter then a ducks arse.

If other clubs wouldn't sign him for nothing, they sure as hell ain't going to pay us to take him away.
How do we know other clubs haven't made him offers though? If he was to leave United on a free do you seriously think no club would have him? Obviously the offers he received from other clubs don't match to his unrealistic opinion of himself as a footballer.

A self respecting club that has serious aspirations doesn't do that though, if a manager doesn't manage to get you a league title or compete close in the CL in 3 years, no matter the progress, you have to get rid of him. We'd be a joke to keep Mourinho if he doesn't win the league

Caving in to the demands of that fecking oaf...

Erm, you realise any club can sign him for free as his contract expires in a couple of days right?
Erm yes, and you realise that he would certainly get a club if he wanted it? You saying that he didn't have an offer from other clubs?

I agree. It's just that I don't trust to get the best out of whoever he gets as most of the player's he's brought have been either ok or shit but that is for another thread

But that unrealistic opinion wouldn't change so the end result is still that no club would pay money for him.

This is Ridiculous. The Moron has wasted our time and now wants to change his mind. Let him off, he is not good enough for Manchester United.

I'm not saying they would pay money for him, all I'm correcting is people saying no club wanted him. We don't know what offers he received, but I think it is obvious he would have received some.

Quick one, why is everyone saying we have caved to his demands?

Sounds very much like we have had an offer on the table for sometime and he's finally agreed it. Don't see any movement from United, just Fellaini.

Not one that paid him what he wanted for the length of contract he wanted them to.

Disagree. If there's substantial progress/evolution towards a style of play then it would be fair to keep Jose. But that's academic because after two years in charge he's done nothing to dispel the concerns over his style of play. If anything, it's regressed from what he had us doing during his first 6 months or so at the club.

He'll be a dead man walking by Christmas.

No club would pay enough money, surely someone is willing to hire him for far less than he wants.

Erm, you realise any club can sign him for free as his contract expires in a couple of days right?

Of course but his wages might be bit higher if contract runs down with signing on fee. Lets drop this as it's a waste of brain cells. At the end of the day, Jose wants him and he plays for United. If he's useless...then I don't think anyone would mind being called useless.

Because the narrative was that we had only offered him a one year deal and he wanted longer. The latest reports about him saying say we have now offered him a two year deal.

If he extends he will cost us nothing which saves us 60 million to buy a replacement. That 60 million could well go towards trying to get Bale now. Fellaini is a wonderful squad player to have and now that Fred is here Fellaini will get much less game time in central midfield in most games but will be a major asset to come on for the last 15 minutes in most tight games when we need to go route one or to play alongside McTominay in league cup games etc when first teamers need a rest. If he is staying then he will win us some major games next season coming on in the last 15 minutes when the scores are level.

Usually it's the players who get away who trigger such floods of reactions...

You have got to hand it to Fellaini, that he has managed to negotiate a deal that both increases his salary and ensures he remains at the club for the forseeable future is the work of a genius.

Fellaini is a genius.

To be fair I don’t mind keeping him as a back up. He’s not great but we would need to spend £15m at least to get someone of similar quality to play off the bench and fill in when others are injured or need a rest.

Of course but his wages might be bit higher under contract. However once signed a contract, he might not rely on signing on fee and wage demand maybe reduced. Lots of pointless speculation - in some cases based on being erm biased.

He would reduce his wage demand after having already secured a higher contract compared to earlier when he didnt have one? You're also forgetting the fact that a club would now need to pay us a transfer fee on top of whatever reduced signing on fee you say he may accept.

We wouldn’t spend £60m on his replacement.

Apparently we had given him an year extension(which he had rejected) and the rumor is that he is close to agreeing a two year deal now, which means that the contract is different to the one which was given before.

You don't need 60m to replace Fellaini, he was out most of last season and wasn't missed.
