Felipe Anderson

Do Marzio in the summer said we had been watching him for a long time. This is certainly not a panic buy. Some other Italian journos said we had a bid rejected in the summer.

If we do get him let's hope he can hit the ground running. He has buckets of pace but his decision making will need to improve a lot. I guess that if this goes through then the gaffer is here to stay for a good while yet.

First and foremost I feel we need a striker.

No, first and foremost we need to balance our width and create opportunities. Martial, Memphis and even Rooney will score goals if they are given loads of opportunities.

I don't know much about him, but i could swear there were loads of folks in here who were clamouring for him previously.

Thats true, especially in the summer, but there were also quite a few against signing him. And the last few months other players emerged, and Felipe didnt perform as well, so obviously for the prices mentioned people want the more 'wanted' players.

Rooney couldn't score in a brothel with his 300k weeks wage.

Agree though tbf.

Oh well, hope he does well. Looks better than Memphis at least

I'm assuming he plays on the right wing?

Who would he displace? Ideally, Mata would shift centrally and Rooney benched but we know it will be at the expense of Mata.

We signed Martial as a striker and also tried to buy Mane. I think the club is looking for both.
Would Mane not be the better option in your opinion?

I doubt that. I expect him to play on the left for now and Rooney in behind Martial. I fear it is Herrera that might go on the bench. Deep down we know Rooney will always start :(

I don't know him much, but I've seen him play on the right. Now absolutely everyone say that he plays on the left and the middle, so...

Even though I rate Anderson, I've said repeatedly that Mane is the better player. Not even debatable. But I just don think we can sign Mane this month. Even for £45m. Southampton are under no pressure to sell and Mane isn't pushing for a move.

I would be amazed if he isn't signed for the right wing.

He has played all three positions in the last 12 months.

Me too, but the right wing make too much sense, LVG will play Martial on the right and Felipe on the left.

Oh man! Another cracking "LVG is clueless" joke. There haven't been enough of these lately...

FFS, there is no malice in it, stop taking everything seriously.

Never seen this lad play, so will be reserving judgment. However, all the reviews seem to suggest he's talented but inconsistent. Hardly the sort of player who's likely to help us with our woeful scoring record here and now. There's a lot to be said for our policy of stockpiling young, promising players, but it smacks a bit of jam tomorrow planning.

I've only watched this guy through Youtube videos, but he looks like a really untidy player with a poor first touch.

Also, it seems that he favours knocking the ball past defenders and then using his pace to get past them, rather than actually dribbling through them.

Is this a fair assumption, or are the Youtube videos misleading?

Soton have been poor this season. Not seen the table but don't think they are in danger of getting relegated or making it into Europe. Not that I'm wanting United to sign him, but surely Mane is obtainable this window.

Can't see it, think we'll only sign players that we would have signed in the summer anyway. This doesn't fit our profile for such an significant position.

It seems that he was a target this summer, so it makes sense.

I have no doubt we would have explored signing Mane this months to see if it's possible.

Don't know what to think about this. I watched him a few times last season and thought he was good, but this season he hasn't really been a starter for Lazio, which is concerning. I guess he's had some problems with the Lazio manager, so that should explain some of his time on the bench.

Never seen him play. There's a lot of pressure on him if we get him though.

I'm only going by YouTube but Sane from Schalke looks a far better prospect to me.

Only makes sense from the point from view that Southampton simply won't sell us Mane, and we have no chance getting a Bale, or Greizmann type player in now,

No way would he be first choice but we a desperate for a right winger, and he certainly has loads of potential, if there is any truth in this it is exciting but not sure what he'll offer us in the short term, which is surely what a January signing is all about.

People talk about potential and prospects, but he'll be 23 in a few months. The fans would be expecting instant and consistent impact (especially if the fee is around 30 million, fecking hope not), but I'm not sure he'd be able to deliver.

Hard to understand this one. Why pay so much money mid-season for an inconsistent, out-of-form player who likely won't help us much this season?

Why not wait until the summer and try to get Mane or Mahrez who both look like better players? This certainly wouldn't in trying to convince anybody that we're actually not a desperate club with no sort of strategy in place.
