FC Bayern 17/18 discussion

That's downright embarassing by Ulreich. 2:1
We could just play Früchtl.

Not at fault for the second goal but, how confident are you guys in Ulreich against Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe?

Is Lewandowski currently the best penalty taker in the world? Hasn't missed a single one of his last 26 penalties if Sky is to be believed. That seems very impressive.

I think he is. His technique is flawless. Good to see Sky counted his penalties, few days ago I was talking with my friend and we couldn't remember when was the last time he missed one!

Amazed Ancelotti is making a mess of his job at Bayern, it seems tailor made for him.

About two years ago. Overall in his career, he has scored 34 penalties and missed only 3.

Less than 2 years ago, with Pep's premature announcement, people were applauding Bayern Munich for acting so quickly to get Ancelotti. I remember some of their fans boasting about it in this forum, about how he was the best manager to succeed Baldy, and how they were nailed on to win the UCL within the next few years. Not doing too well nowadays, is he?

They seem to have troubles replacing Robbery. Coman apparently lacks consistency and they've loaned out Douglas Costa.

Will be interesting to see how they deal with buying Ribery and Robben's replacements.

Not many quality wingers out there, and it will come at a serious price in todays market. Hard enough getting one quality winger, never mind two.

I think you're making things up.

Despite their age, Ribery and Robben are not the problem. Ribery is fit for the first time in ages and looks good.
The problems are:
1) Neuer is the best GK in the world and ulreich is fairly terrible.
2) Alaba and Bernat are out, so Rafinha has to play as LB. He really struggles on this side and doesn't offer anything going forward and struggles to defend occasionally.
3) The midfield lacks quality and balance. Rudy is a decent squad player, but not bayern quality. He is the only DM. Vidal can compensate for that, when he is in top form, but he is hit-n-miss for quite some time. Thiago and Tolisso are useful players, but not DMs.
The result is that we lack balance and frequently the opposition gets easy opportunities. Playing two midfielders with the natural instinct to go forward in a double pivot is difficult. Not sure that those players can pull it off.

Minor problems are: Despite having amazing CB depth (4 top class CBs), Boateng is just coming back and Hummels seems to be on a mission to set the record for passes to the opposition. I'd fancy to drop him and get Süle more time.
Kimmich is not Lahm; especially when it comes to defending. Still, Kimmich is amazing.

tl,dr: we should have signed a DM.

Can't Javi Martinez be used there when needed or has that ship definitely sailed?

Ancelotti hasn't even tried it once. No clue why, he was never an excellent centerback. It was to some degree understandable that Guardiola didn't like him in that role, but it makes zero sense that Ancelotti doesn't even give it try. Alonso is gone, so we don't have a true deep lying playmaker anymore. Someone really should show Ancelotti some footage of that Schweinsteiger - Martinez pairing form 2013.

Strange, I recall Ancelotti saying that he's an option for the midfield, soon after he arrived. I remember praising him for it.

Why would I? I had seen posts regarding Ancelotti about how he was more successful in the UCL than the league, that he could lead this Bayern team to UCL glory.
It seems very unlike the Bayern fans on here to say they were "nailed on" to win the CL

"Could win" is not the same as "nailed on to win".

@Balu @Piratesoup what's up with Müller, he seems to have lost his scoring touch under Ancelotti... only 9 goals last season and none yet so far this. Individual decline or Ancelotti's system, or loss of form, fitness, etc.?

Well Ancelotti will get sacked soon, seems pretty certain to me now. The team will turn on him.

That's definitely been one of the better performances of the season so far. Our defending on counter attacks is just really lacking right now.

With prime Ribery and Robben a thing of the past, we simply can't match their ferocity, speed and high octane ball controll up front. We're clearly not top tier anymore.

Mbappe is phenomenal. They were right to spend big on him. We really missed out on the true offensive gems of the next gen, although we probably never had a chance to sign any of them.

Neuer :(

We need worldclass attackers to replace Robben and Ribery. We won't find those however, definitely not with the kind of money KHR and Hoeneß want to spend. The rest of the team looks fine to me.

Yup. We need a player the calibre of Dybala to match the firepower of the big spenders. Which is obviously a pipe dream because we can't get him.

Not watching the match. But see Ribery, Robben and Coman on the bench. Surely one of them needs to be playing:

For years I constantly read that Bayern are a superbly run team, but the comments I'm reading now are all doom and gloom. Are they on a downward trajectory?

Wouldn't say trajectory, we were among the worlds 4 best teams last year still. But we aren't this year. And I think it'll take some effort and money to get back up there.

We were incredibly lucky with getting Ribery and Robben. They are getting old, we need replacements. We can't compete with the other elite clubs for those signings however. The rest is fine.

*Serious Pep Mode* I wish we had 1000 Kimmichs

Rudy has been a better signing than Tolisso so far. Welp...

I miss the Heynckes football of the CL winning year :( it was a joy to watch. Entertaining in every regard and totally effective. Great results as well. A very well balanced, physical and fast side. :(

The 4-2-3-1 man... the days when martinez was a DM.

Every club has a cycle. You were pretty poor for a period before Van Gaal got you to the final in 2010.

Think you should go for Mane..

Were always going to lose to PSG away, PSG destroyed Barca and the same goes for a struggling Bayern. They have to change something and get back to form, Mbappe and Neymar could embarrass them at home and that wouldnt be nice for them.

The midfield is just beyond shambolic. They offer nothing going forward, while psg can just walk through them. During most counters a psg player is allowed to run 40m in a straight line.
Dunno why anyone talks about ribery and Robben aging. They didnt start and when they play, they are still pretty good.
The problem is the midfield: organisation and quality.
We went from three world-class players (Schweinsteiger, Javi, kroos) to three jokers (Vidal in current form shouldn't play). Additionally ancelotti went back to his 3 player midfield, which sucked 100 out of 100 times.

yea, those were the days. Loved Martinez as a dm! Fekking Guardiola ruined that for us. Still hate him. Also hate him for not insisting on keeping Kroos. What an incredibly stupid decision in hindsight.
He did, by all accounts. Blame Rummenigge for that one.
