FC Bayern 17/18 discussion

So apparently BILD is claiming Neuer injured his left foot again, in training today. They say he needs surgery and might be out for months.

He only came back couple of weeks ago after breaking his left foot at the Bernabeu.

Yes, as I mentioned in the Bundesliga thread already
Neuer out is a huge blow to Bayern - not only in terms of goalkeeping, but also when it comes to their build up... watching their last game I noticed how vital he is with his ball delivery and starting many of their attacks... maybe they will be fine in Bundesliga, but in CL I can see them suffering a lot. Ulrich is a very average backup.
Hope he's back and in form for the World Cup, wonderful player to watch.

It's a broken foot, so hopefully he'll be fit by the end of the year.

So the "Koan Neuer" fans can be happy for some months.

Ulreich should do. He is a good keeper.

They wanted Kraft though. Might be difficult to get him off of Hertha's bench midseason.

While that is true, there aren't too many teams with bettet backups.
Most other top teams have better backups I'd say. Which is understandable since being Neuer's backup is, or used to be before he got injured, even more unsatisfying than being a backup GK generally is.

Probably yes, but correct me if I'm wrong - he was never seriously injured before the previous one, and now it's the same foot, so it's a bit problematic I guess.
We don't know details about the injury yet, and we don't know whether the injuries are connected. I agree though it sounds very suspicious and pretty ominous.

If it's the same foot you'd have to wonder about long term consequences.

I'd agree if it was a ligament or tendon injury, but broken bones (usually...) heal well without lasting consequences. Maybe his initial break was really complicated, though, and the middle foot can be a minefield for a surgeon. Lets hope for the best.

Apparently there is some talk that they want to reactivate Tom Starke. He has retired last season and could come in on a free.

That'd be strange. Poor Früchtl.

Früchtl is supposed to go to the U17 World Cup soon (October 6th to 18th). Actually that is probably better than sitting on the bench for the professionals.. - I am not sure, if that is really true as he usually plays U19, or?

U23 ATM.

But he's born in 2000 (thus 17) and all players born after 01.07.2000 are eligible to play, so he will play for the U17 NT at the WC

He has broken his left foot already somewhen at Schalke years ago. And he should not have played against Real because he had an operation on that left foot some days before that Real match (BILD rolled that up somewhen in summer). Now he has broken the same left foot again... Just sounds that they rushed it before and did it again - and it never went well...

I continue to be astounded by Ancelotti's rigorous, methodical rotation policy, which seems to always put out the best team vs the weakest opponents while away at Schalke we end up with a midfield of Rudy and Tolisso.

Bayern playing well so far. Got a penalty after VAR.

Another well worked goal. Great debut for Rodriguez so far, won the penalty and now scored the goal.

Schalke weren't so bad, actually. Scored once, too - only offside. ;)

They are looking very convincing in this match.

Ulreich also made some nice saves.

Right now nobody is. Carlo has found his love for rotation.

Old dog learning new tricks?

Both have been quite good so far this season. Especially Rudy.

Keep this posts coming, they work

I didn't say they are not good. But you wouldn't consider the both of them together our first choice midfield, would you? In a schedule of Mainz at home, Schalke away, and Wolfsburg at home, he plays Thiago-Vidal at home against Mainz and Rudy-Tolisso away at Schalke. Isn't that odd?

strong teams win matches, strong benches win titles

He seems to have the (mis?)understanding that Schalke are relegation fodder. I remember Sanches getting his debut at Veltins-Arena last season and me thinking, "Why would he do that to a youngster new to the club and country?" A simple mistake like that might have played a role in a promising player not making it at Bayern.

Yeah, I wish people would freak out less when someone like Müller or Ribery sit on the bench. It's like they think the championship will be won without them. I liked how he swapped out Robben for Ribery during the Mainz match, btw. Good method of phasing them out. And they need to be phased out. Badly. We have no replacement for them, yet. Time's running.

Ancelotti the great rotator strikes again. ;)

Ulreich – Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Rafinha – Vidal, Müller, Rudy,– Robben, Lewandowski, Ribéry

Subs: Früchtl, Friedl, Süle, Martinez, Rodriguez, Tolisso, Coman
