Fantasy Tournament: World Cup All-Time All-Stars

I don't really get the idea behind picking Garrincha while knowing there's no rightback available that fixes the problem with the restrictions? That's what my biggest issue is with the whole thing. Everyone missed out on big names to work around the restrictions. If it's not possible, pick someone else in the first place. Or bench another important player.

I actually expected Krol to play instead of Moore and Cohen still playing as rightback because it's the only fair thing to do, everything else really is a bad joke here. I would have been pissed as well, if I faced Pol. Completely takes the fun out of the whole draft. The restrictions were that tough for a reason and if we cheat in the end just to fit as many big names as possible on the team sheet, why have those restrictions in the first place?

Yeah, this is exactly it.

How would I not have a point though?

Oh Christ, clearly some think you don't, or that you are blowing it out of proportion, same thing.

Point is: is there any scenario in which you will go ahead and play this game now?

If not, why are we wasting our time discussing this? If anything, I agree, it goes to show your game would have been shit on a stick... with a fan behind it.

It's not about winning or loosing or judging how good a player would be when played out of position. That's not the problem.

I can't really explain it better than I did with the following post. If that doesn't make sense to you and Aldo, then we have to agree to disagree.

Like I said, I don't know your tactics and formation, but if it wasn't questionable, we wouldn't have this discussion. You can easily clear it up by posting it, because it doesn't look like Theon will play anyway.

It is easy to take the high road, but when the answer is as simple as not voting for a manager who plays his player out of position. more consideration as Pol has fielded good teams before and it's not like he is doing this intentionally. More like a gmable that may work OR NOT!

This is just like Mourinho whining about 19th century football and such.

As long as it fits the OP rules, Pol has every right to play a player out of position.

Re: The ones who were contacted for the sheep draft.

Please accept my apology but I would not be conducting this. After seeing the behaviour and the insensitivity today I am not willing to put any more of my time in anything of this nature in future. The good thing however is that you guys know how it works so hopefully someone would take the reigns and take it forward. If you have any doubts regarding it, feel free to ask me, no issues.

Sorry, again.

You are not getting it, are you? They are not up for it. I can't quite find them yet, but there seem to have been several instances of breaking:

Seriously, I laughed my tits off when Snow invoked the Bro Code, but it's quite enlightening:
  • Art. 1: Bros before ho's => Pelégate
  • Art. 30: A Bro doesn't comparison shop => "The End of Drafts"?
  • Art. 92: Bros don't speak French, ever => Aldo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Art. 102: A Bro shall take great care in selecting and training a wingman => Garrincha
Barneydamus

Sorry, again.

You drama queen!

How did your exam go anyway?

Went quite well thanks. Quite relieved it's finished though.

I take it at this stage neither @Polaroid nor @AldoPaine18 are up for having a semi going at all either, right?

I liked my solution this morning, less so now, not sure you are very keen on playing at all. Chicken Run!

I'm sorry you feel that way, Aldo - and I hope you'll reconsider. Things are clearly a bit heated at the moment.

My two pennies: It's frustrating to plot out something good and thorough and then lose because random voters show up and vote for the big names. I can understand this. But a) it's the name of the game as long as the poll is open for everyone. You can get all manner of voters, perhaps even voters who only vote for their favourite player, regardless of what state his team is in - and b) it won't necessarily go down like that. As Annah says - IF a player is played out of position this will undoubtedly become a point of debate and this will in its turn affect the vote. The Balu-Annah match got a total of 19 votes - and just about the majority of these votes came from people who are actually interested in these proceedings and read the match threads.

I'm with Poe...I mean Pillow here as far as the principle is concerned: You can't restrict the manager(s) beyond the limitations in the draft rules themselves. Whether he/they decide(s) to field a player out of position must be his/their call.

As a spectator who had his beers and crisps ready for a good game I just want to see some on-the-pitch action here. If Theon is out I think that's a fair decision (it's supposed to be fun, not some kind of chore). But I really hope that doesn't spell the end of the whole tournament!

Serious question: What would happen if something like this happened for real? A team withdraws due to, well, uncommon reasons (unlikely but it could happen - let's say a national federation suspects the opponent of having paid the ref or something along those lines)? Is it simply a walkover for the opponent?

Depends on the timing. I suspect if it all emerged right before the game it would be a walkover.

If it came up soon after the quarter (it all effectively got triggered on Saturday) then the beaten team would go through, which was my logic with the Andrade memo ;)

Like I said before, clearly it is Polaroids decision whether he wants to continue to the final or play another team. For me we can start drafting right away and set a schedule for the final match. There is only two people involved in the draft at this phase which is me and Pol and he has my acceptance to decide freely.

I'd LOVE a match-up just for fun between Balu and Antohan though or if Theon wants to play all of a sudden then him versus Balu.

Exactly my thinking this morning: show must go on. Unfortunately everyone seemed to want to discuss it to the death.

At this stage I'm more of the opinion Aldo needs to chill and go out for a few well deserved beers. Up to them really, and Pol in particular being mod. I know it affects his fortunes but I don't see a big deal with it at all. The entire point was having a game today, nothing more.

What does Balu have to do with it all?

I offered to count only managers' votes but the managers' collective judgement is not good enough for them apparently. Balu wanted me to commit that I will not have anything questionable about my team (how does anyone ensure that?)

This is our line-up (and what Theon and Balu have called cheating, before they have even seen it)

Third place match for entertainment. Balu VS Theon would then be the real match-up. If Theon doesn't want to it would be great with you against Balu.

feck that, let's have a good game. Balu vs. Anto. Dutch vs. Magyars. Totalfootballfest with no boring five-man backlines. Wahey!!!!

@Balu, you don't have Neeskens though. I got Krol and Djalma (finally!). Who are you picking instead of Neeskens?

Fair enough, but why is it so hard to understand that it takes the fun out of the game for the opponent?

Tbf, it's not. I think we can still have healthy discussion despite the RB controversy! But then if a player is unhappy with the rules, we can note and improve in next draft. Pulling out of semis when you clearly have a upper hand, just because you are against a player out of position is not correct.

I can't contemplate a real manager refusing to take advantage of a weakness due to 'not having fun'! What good is a game if taking chances is disallowed?

Indeed this match-up has to happen!

We can play the game now if anyone is up for taking over Theon's team
We have precedents and it makes sense
Nevertheless if Anto wants to revive his team, we can play too. I will just put together a formation quickly and throw it out there.

Oh I'm gonna have much more than beers tonight. :p

Night following the last exam is usually mental. :D

feck that Pol, no half-arsed games here and I think Annah's head would explode if I went through, kept Figueroa and Beckenbauer AND had first dibs on picking.

It's really a game I would have played and conceded even if won.

Balu vs. Anto sounds way more interesting and Aldo can sit back and get drunk enjoying that football-fest.

Well. I don't want to take sides here, that's not my place. I just want a good match. But I have to say that line-up is hardly outrageous. If it had been Maldini at right back I would've called that odd - but then again I'm certain it wouldn't have passed without severe criticism. But, really - this is a set-up with three CBs. Maldini is a CB and so is Krol. I personally would - perhaps - switch them around, and have Krol to the right, being the adaptable total football icon that he is. But, again - this ain't sacrilege.

That's my honest opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Totally, do whatever you want to enjoy yourself man
Really appreciate your inputs Aldo, you are a tremendous asset
Don't worry about this, I will put together a formation quickly if Anto wants a match. He can do most of the talking though, enough to sustain the match thread

I did mention to Theon it may not even be four at the back as his team didn't call for it (I played three as well! just with one more striker though).

Ultimately though, his threat on that wing is Carlos and Carlos really is very much a RB job.

It really is, trust me you don't wanna see the scenes around my college tonight.

I'd be fecked really in that case so I'd really dislike that.

I didn't say that or at least I hope I didn't. You knew exactly what Theon's problem was, that's why I asked why you don't come out with a clear statement about your line-up and just be done with it. I also misread Antohan's comment about Garrincha implying a rightback gate earlier today, no idea why but I took it as confirmation that there is actually something questionable with your formation. That's my bad, sorry for that and I get why my posts look rather stupid now.

I really don't want to go back to playing without Neeskens. I said earlier, I wouldn't mind a game for 3rd place with both loosers picking from the winners just for fun. But sorting out the Neeskens mess with anto and going back to playing a similar team like in one of the last games, doesn't really make sense.
