Fantasy Tournament: World Cup All-Time All-Stars

Hmm yeah freeing up a European place with Falcao and going for someone like Moore later on. Can work.

Like you said I don't think he really needs Falcao to add to the midfield.

Anto's in his element here. Reminds me of the time he lamented the horrible draw he had, only being able to strengthen his team with IIRC Beckenbauer, Maradona and Pele.

 Yeah, our whole strategy rested on getting past you as we had players who could be replaced with ease.

I told him, it makes no sense that you pick Matthäus and you won't do it, so you can blame me for him not leaving a backup pick :(

Except that 3-2-3-2 requires a very credible midfield pair. I have it, will the voters agree? feck the voters though. Falcao or Figueroa.

I think it may well boil down to Figueroa's backup, Santamaría. One of the few I could see pulling off an old-school back three. If he goes I'm buggered, but I doubt it as no one has a clear need for him. On the other hand, may need to play him in a back four next game. He was a sub for Cutch, if only due to restrictions. I rate him highly but I'm afraid I'll get trolloped on the polls.

Because he has his eye on a certain centerback that most likely will be available as a 2nd pick anyway and he then can pick a wellworking pair at once.

If its Figueroa then he won't last till 14th pick, no chance

I think he prefers Figueroa + Bocsik over Moore + Falcao and both would fill the same continent/pre/post restrictions.

It isn't, if he wants him, he needs to pick him now and sort the pre/post restriction mess later.

I still think you need to do both, really. Have you read my post in your game thread with the video how Italy in '86 dealt with him? No one did a better job and it surely wasn't sitting deep, it was keeping him away from the penalty box by putting pressure on his teammates and force him to drop deep, while still having a defensive shape that can deal with runners. If Pol gets to pick Ronaldo or Eusebio we're all fecked anyway, imo.

He certainly will get a top drawer striker, the question is which one. rpitroda needs a Batistuta upgrade and Theon one for Piola/Baggio. I would argue given their setups they all need different ones so it could all fall nicely into place for them.

Infact this draft is telling example in that you really need to close out some portion of attack early. Lot of sides with ok defense have made through. I am glad I combined Kopa-Fontaine early.

rpitroda will pick Ronaldo surely.

Him + Zidane would be a huge vote winner

Plenty of top strikers up for grabs.

Muller, Eusebio, Ronaldo, Romario.

Ffs, we're telling Crappy for about 5 days now that he gets Garrincha and he still doesn't believe it

Kids in Christmas this

BTW, those asking me to rush, I'm asking for opinions, which leads to good football discussions, which is the point of the entire thing really.

The problem with Kopa Fontaine is, they are brilliant picks with the restrictions, but are they great enough to win you in the end? Could be that they allow you to go through the first 2 rounds but then you're fecked because you can't upgrade them anymore. But now with Garrincha, you could easily go all the way.

The restrictions are brilliant, really love them (as much as they cursed them in the past).

 That was jammy as feck. You got to pick from your beaten rivals though. It's far less likely that would happen in this setup as it removes the luck of the draw.

Yeah I agree. Though I think if you stick true to only considering WC form then Fontaine needs no upgrade. His WC performance was better than someone like Eusebio but the latter gets more weight-age for other reasons.

Depends really. Fontaine requires more service than Eusebio would, who actually a lot of times could take the ball from midfield and score.

With Kopa there that's not a problem for you. Kopa supplying to Garrincha with Fontaine waiting to pounce is sick!

16th Theon, 16th. And yes, Balu, you are right I would rather go ahead with Bozsik-Figueroa but right now I literally can't play Figueroa anyway. I'm in a straightjacket as MM and modern players don't suit each other, the ones I can do with are few and far apart. There's one team I have in midn but there's almost zero chance i could pull it off. It looked a lot more feasible when I cocked up my planning thinking about Figueroa in 74.

I wouldn't touch my front five if I didn't need to. cnuting quotas.

Why aren't you picking Baresi?

Because I'm overcooked on the European front and want to end up with a back three, not a back 5, a back three. I don't think Baresi is best-suited to be the one on the middle for that, Figueroa is, he is a more complete defender (if that makes any sense whatsoever) who can pull that off. Figueroa is a one-man defensive wall who would hold a fort single-handedly while Baresi's greatness (however brilliant he was individually) has much more to do with the collective effort. Thin margins really, but the Euro/SAM thing settles it for me.

Crappy is still worried you might pick Garrincha

I don't disagree but something has to give.

Decided to stick with your CB's? thought you were unhappy with Carvalho/Gamarro!

Happy as in solid enough, but neither suits the tactics I want to evolve to. I'll probably still have either on the pitch in the next game and that's the issue in my mind Santamaría-Gamarra/Carvalho wouldn't hold up to the voters, strong performers or not.

You really think Falcao wouldn't cut it?

Who do you need more, that's the question. You can live without Falcao, you already have two top CMs. You yourself said not a lot of defenders would fit your tactic as well as being pleasing to voters so I'd say yo go for this now.
